  1. A simple question. Now the Marketplace is a waste of time for freebies (if they removed the demos claiming to be freebies there would be almost nothing left) Yadni's is five years in the past and it seems that the bigger self-proclamed freebie places are full of scams to sucker you into handing over L$ when you don't notice that the items are not in fact free, where does a guy go to equip a new alt for nothing, since I'm not handing over my hard earned McD bucks to pretentious amateur designers who don't know what to charge. Can you suggest three places I should go, apart from Free Dove, which is still OK but doesn't seem to check on the stuff it displays nowadays? Thanks in advance. ETA Don't bother suggesting NCI either; the stuff there is so stale if it was bread you could play frisbee with it.
  2. If they are, then I have no soul. Which is probably correct.

The problem is that it is not a matter of your taste or my taste, but that of the moderation team, who - once upon a time - were officially told by Amanda Linden that they should leave their sense of humour at home and not bring it to work. Assuming they had one in the first place, of course
  4. I'm with you all the way Orca! LR encourages mindless anti-social keyboard pressing. Athough most of the public chat conversations I read could be described thus. As well as just about everything in Facebook.
  5. And no sooner did she return than she disappeared from public view . . .

Or will you close that meeting group as well and shift everything to the Adult Forums? Hi Roseysun - Good question. You might want to ask that question in the Adult Forum. I am pretty sure there is an actual Linden in there to read and answer your question. I am not sure how often they visit this one. Cinn And isn't that really a shame? :matte-motes-bored: Well, they have moved empty promises to Rodvik's feed - where you can't comment unless you are one of the inner sanctum and unlikely to rock the boat.
  7. Randall Ahren wrote: The worst insult is telling someone that their avatar sucks. Surely if that avatar is an Escort that would be a compliment? ETA More seriously, it is my perception that most straight guys in SL could not care less about what their avatar looked like, preferring to rely on aggressive chat, if not persuasive conversation - until they find one of those interfering women who enjoy giving an indolent male a makeover, and are prepared to pay for it to have a trophy partner, albeit temporarily.
  8. Surely the answer is the same as for every other company that leads the market with disruptive technology: once they have broken the paradigm (if an analogous one even exists) or stretched the envelope, then they fail to advantage themselves of their profit potential by refusing to provide their target demographics with what those early adopters have publicly stated they would buy, and instead revert to cliched copying of what has already been a success for first movers in subtly differentiated market sectors. (Did that sound like marketing bs? I hope it did, because then LL's marketing department might understand it.)

Was Miss Peters your Domme, or just a girl that broke your heart? Do you miss Daniel? Was he a shoulder for you to cry on? I presume you are female, although you have assumed a male name.
  10. The textual nature of the majority of interactions allows for consideration and permanency of communication, and the public nature of many dialogues allows for humiliation of masochists to be pervasive in effect, enhancing the enjoyment by both conversing parties. Personally, my all time remembered favourite is actually visual, rather than verbal (Pep's anvil falling on Sus in a dream sequence) but I am sure that among those who contribute to this forum there have been some devastating conversation killers. Share your experience!
  11. Why not tell everybody publicly about your pain - and to be honest I don't expect many responses from men.

  13. Here's a suggestion. Why don't we arrange CTUG Meetings without the Lindens. We could make a log of the chat and send it to Lexie to post to the CTUG wiki page and we could keep a progress record of how well LL was doing against the issues and objectives that the CTUG identiy and prioritise. It would probably be a lot more organised, efficient and productive without the Lindens being there as well. Most IT User Groups I know of are violently vehemently independent of the supplier, and only compromise their independence for gifts of biscuits for meetings, cases of expensive wine for each member of the Committee, and grab bags of freebie gifts like Rolexes and keys to Ferraris for those membes who spike initiatives the supplier doesn't like or suppresses bad PR stories before they break. Why wouldn't that work here? We could even rotate three timezone meetings on a weekly basis to facilitate attendance by those who currently feel their opinions are disenfranchised. If necessary we could take the Meetings on a tour of the Welcome Areas so that the opinions of the Not So Silent Majority could also be canvassed, although I am not sure how we could ensure that the Banana Song and muliple spamming gestures could be accurately represented in the meeting chat log. If nobody is going to say where the my.secondlife.com user input is supposed to be offered up, then maybe we could do the same sort of thing for that as well - although it is fairly obvious that there is a lot more design and testing work to be done on the feeds, particularly in terms of security. Maybe we could write our own Feed Interaction Guidelines as well, and then the Lindens could not claim that we didn't give a FIG about them. Jus' saying. Oh, and I nominate Void Singer as Chair of the Group. Fidor

Most of the rest of us care deeply about this community of folks within SL, but not work to tear it apart. What MAJOR company would that be then? Fidor
  16. Jolene Benoir wrote: Nup, I'm not lost. LL/SL still means a great deal to me, so I feel I have every right to post here as anywhere else. Btw? Whose alt are you? Cuz you sure aren't a noobie here. hehe You don't recognize me? I was one of the nine people at the gV birthday party wake the other weekend. Fidor
  17. Jolene Benoir wrote: Why thank, Venus. This caught my interest, after having been witness to a rather interesting weekend on the feeds. Oy. I understand why some might consider posting endlessly to the CEO's wall effective, or attending CTUG meetings to be effective to have their voice heard, I also understand that the vast majority of SL denizens won't even post to this forum or know about it, let alone do those things. An argument COULD be made that LL should listen to the loudest voices, but an argument could ALSO be made that everyone counts, not just a select few. This is why I support what LL has decided. That THIS be the location for feedback. I just hope that they respond to everyone's concerns. That is all. After reading your post I decided to go and ask some representatives of The Silent Majority for their opinions. This is a summary: Fidor
  18. Jolene Benoir wrote: Maybe, just maybe, they got fed up with a vocal minority thinking that they RUN this forum, decide what is important during CTUG meetings and bombard the CEO's feed with turf wars. A reminder. This forum is open to all. You may consider yourself a frequent user, but that doesn't mean that you have any more say than the person who comes here once in awhile to read, or ask a question. This isn't your kingdom. Are you lost, dear? Are you sure you are posting in the correct forum? gV is a little ways down the road; you can't miss it, it's the one with the bored-looking tumbleweed drifting past it. Fidor

  20. Ima Rang wrote: Interesting language you use there. Forums should not be a place that any person feels they need to compete. Those who choose to respond to posts are not combatants by original design. If you know that you are in the company of and communicating with individuals that range in age from say, 16-60 with varying degrees of emotional as well as intellectual IQ, then the person that demonstrates an unacknowledged moral deficit of a defective combatant is actually the individual that refuses to speak to the audience which is present, as opposed to the audience in which they desire or deem worthy. Survival of the fittest..An ability to adapt to changing environments and survive...so is it really the 16 year old that cannot understand the erudite language of 50+ year old experienced individual that must GTFO and lick their wounds after being humiliated because they have not made it past the letter P in the thesaurus yet...Or is it the highly educated and sage 50+ year old that should suffer the humiliation for not addressing the audience that actually exists as opposed to the one that lives in their head? Because if we are being honest with ourselves, when we post on these forums we are well aware that there are teenagers, educated, uneducated, rich, poor, healthy, unhealthy, high functioning autistics, Aspergers, BP1 & 2's, addicts, etc., among us. Which, of course, those of higher intellect already know...it is not always limited to shallow affect or hyper-sensitivity. Eh, it is a tough question in an environment such as this one...which is dedicated to the adult version of cartoon Barbie and Ken dressup and bump time...The fact that a higher degree of intellect should be a a precursor to being allowed to discuss Barbie and Ken cartoon world without being purposely humiliated by those claiming emotional and intellectual superiority among us, is just kind of...funny. I post for those people who are able to understand me. If others do not then they have three choices. They can remain silent; they can ask for clarification; or they can take a guess at what I have said and potentially make fools of themselves. Unfortunately many participants here fall into that last category, but deny that they do, and in their denial they draw even more attention to their deficits. Nobody is forced to respond to anything I or anybody else post here. And why should I restrict myself to simple single syllable words and short sentences, diluting the richness and colour of my communications, just because it would suit a very small proportion of the overall audience better? Oh, and competition is the default mode for all human beings, wherever they are. Fidor
  21. PeterCanessa Oh wrote: Oh they probably do speak English, I wasn't being too serious. Just pointing out that "non-English speakers" are all over the place, even in the USA, and even if you only count English as a second language. I would hazard a guess that it would not be too difficult to find a Korean-speaker in any big US city, as another instance. I would even think it would be fairly easy to find people from almost every African and Asian country who do not speak English on a daily basis. I realise that you were being slightly flippant Peter, but my point was a serious one. USA citizens in the main (and on an entirely reasonably basis) do not expect to meet people who have no understanding of (or inclination to use) English at all, and consequently have no motivation to learn another language. Just about everywhere else in the world does, and does, to a greater extent. If English becomes the global lingua franca (I bet the French gnash their teeth every time they see that phrase used!) then it won't be because Shakespeare was a master of the turned word, but will be because the USA will expect - and perhaps insist - that it is the language to be used when interacting with them. I am not making a value judgment by the way, just acknowledging the realities of the way in which the global community is inexorably developing. Fidor
  22. At the risk of being branded a racist, might I introduce you to an indigenous cohort of Mexican people who are called the Seri? Would a crowd of them be called Seris? If you met several of them one after the other would that be a series of Seris? If someone made some TV programmes about meeting several of them one after another would they call that a series of series of Seris. If it was narrated by a highly rated academic would that be a serious series of series of Seris? If they had a big night in where they showed all of these programmes one after the other would that be a serial serious series of series of Seris? If it were sponsored by a breakfast food manufacturer would it be a Cerial serial serious series of series of Seris? I can't imagine what the inhabitants of the smallest dwarf planet in the solar system might say if they picked up the transmissions. Fidor
