Actually, now I have had a little time to reconsider, it IS still a good idea.

I have an idea. Why not use the existing spelling checker as a filter to identify spam. Any post where the checker identifies more than, say, five errors would be deleted. That should cover 99% of the spam. Erm . . . hold that idea; it would also eliminate about 80% of normal posts. As you were.
