  1. Hello! So, I've been making mesh for a while, and while I think theres is a lot of space for improvment on building, what I really need now is to be able to drawn decent textures for my creations, so i can add more details to them. My drawing skills are very poor, but I would love to learn how to draw silk for example ,not those photoshop random folds tutorial, but an actually nice silk texture. I make mostly 18th and 19th century dresses, and most of them were inspired by IRL silk dresses. I would like not only to draw nice folding effects, but also just a plain silk, that looks so simple yet I can't make it. Thank you in advance!
  2. I see. I am very new to materials, so is there any way I can make a silk material that can be used in SL?
  3. Oh that's bad is there a way to bake the materials into a normal texture then?
  4. I am learning how to make materials for blender, and I am trying to make something like these: http://elbrujodelatribu.blogspot.com.br/search/label/silk http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/56695 Let's say, when I finish making it, can I use it on SL? I think I can, after the Materials project, but I only see videos showing specular and normal maps (which I am already using too) and never something about materials in particular. Also, if I think its necessary, is there a way to bake(?) the materials and specular maps on Blender, to create a static 'normal' texture? the specular map's effect can be barely noticeable depending on the lighting, so I was thinking in making a lihgting set up on Blender, and if possible baking the speculars. Thanks in advance :)
  5. Hello! In the edit menu, on the Texture tab, change the Alpha mode options. Its probably in Alpha Blending or something, change it to None. Hope it helps
  6. I was actually thinking in wearing a facelight after so long lol I am using it at 30, I think lower than that looks too weak. The normal map surely helped, but I would still like it to be a little stronger. Maybe adding a silky material will help?
  7. I have been experimenting with the specular and normal maps, and like you said I think I will find the best settings for my needs playing with it. I just want to know how I can make it stronger. I know the whole purpouse is how it looks with the lighting, but I would like it to be stronger when the mesh is not so close to any light. And yes, I meant Blender's cycles. I am terribly confused buy the nodes, I see some presets for silk but I can't for the life of me do them.
  8. Thanks! I am still a bit lost though. I use Photoshop, so to get this effect I should open my texture, change the not-shiny part to black, and the details in white, right? And then what do I do? Btw, I am not sure how to add it on SL, I see the texture and materials options, but none for specular maps. And for materials, I saw something that is called Cycles, the set up looks a bit confusing, but there is such things as "silk cycles". Can I use those on SL?
  9. Hello! I am currently making this mesh, a woman's banyan (18th century informal clothign), and I think I could benefit greatly from the new features. This is the effect I want to archive, a silk damask texture. You see how there damask kind of remains the same, while the background (silk) have some sort of degrade style to it. I know nothing about materials and specular maps, so while I would like some guiding to make this specially, I really would love some help in general, as how to add leather effects to shoes, etc. This is my model - its like a mix between those two pictures - without textures: Thanks a lot in advance!
  10. Thanks alot! I will definately try the newer version of Blender. So its just rotate the mesh and the armature on that direction, and then in the weight painting options select 'mirror X'?
  11. I use Blender 2.66, and I read somewhere that you can mirror the rigging and weight painting with equivalent bones, for example, 'ArmR' with 'ArmL'. The thing is I am lost on how to do it, I am having troubles with this almost-finished mesh dress where both sides need more weight painting fixes, that I can archive with time, but the thing is I can't never make both sides similar enough, and if I could mirror the weight and rigging would be great. Is it really possible to do it? Thank you in advance!
  12. Hello! So, I heard that now you can use materials on SL right? I saw a picture comparing a normal baked mesh to a object with materials, and the difference is huge! I am completely lost on how to use materials like that. I am making a mesh dress, and I would love to bake the shadows with silk materials. How do I do it? any good tutorials out there? I have zero knwoloegdment on how to use materials. Thank you in advance!
  13. Hello! I use Blender 2.66a, and when I bake amb occ to my mesh, it looks like this: Ambient Occlusion: factor 20 ; Multiply Gather: Approximate You see how there is some lines near the waist, and the skirt have weird patches all over it. I remember having this problem before, but I can't remember how to fix it. Thanks in advance!
  14. Thank you for the answers So, its not a UV thing, because it looks normal when not rigged, that little glitch only happens when I move the arm.
  15. Hello! Im using Blender 2.66a, and I would like to correct this: I can't make the right sleeve detail to look good as the left one, not even with weight painting, what can I do?
  16. I hate the new chat too, it is distractive, confusing and not intuitive at all, I really hope they get back to the previous chat interface.
  17. It would be great if you could take a look at it,please IM me your email Also,I make all my mesh clothing using the same avatar and armature from this file,so I want to know what I can do about the vertex groups before rigging the mesh. Again, thanks so much for your help!
  18. You are a life saviour! Now with the new vertex groups the rigging changed a bit,and when I try to edit it in Weight Painting, its not easy as before. Its like pretty drastic,I can't make it fit right. When I try to edit it,if I don't substract all of it,it looks like this: Its like there is no mean.
  19. Thank you so much! I followed Gaia's instruction, and new vertex groups were created. But now there is 26 groups,is that bad? Also, how do I reset the armature to the default pose?
  20. So, thanks to really helpful people on my last post,I discovered what is probably wrong with my rigged mesh. I checked the Vertex Group´s on Object Data, and I only have 9,and it should be 21 right? I don't know what I did wrong, but how can I fix it? Thank you in advance!
  21. Thank you all. I checked the vertex groups, and I only see 9 on that list,in the properties panel. I don't know what I did to change that, but how do I fix it now?
  22. 1. I tried reseting,it changes nothing. 2. Im sorry,but how do I check that? 3. I don't know how to check that too D: 4. Checked,it is in the right way 5. I didn't applied it before.
  23. Thank you for being so helpful But still,I selected the skeleton and the mesh, exporter it in the Second Life Rigged preset, and still can't select the skin weight.
