SL is probably more fun when you know how to make things do things -

Thanks Tex! sounds similar to what I do to do except i don't have a wife or family in SL. I guess if that's boring I'm pretty boring too lol. -
I'm looking to get a new light weight laptop. Want to know how SL will run on it before buying. So is there anyone running SL with a Core i5 and Nvidia 720m laptop? How is it? How high up can the graphics setting go on it? Please don't tell me to get a proper desktop, I already have one. No gaming laptop either, too heavy to carry around.

How do you spend your time in SL? Not looking for you to tell me what I can do or should do in SL. Just wondering what other people outside my circle do in SL..

To say there is no incentive for copybotters just because they can't cash out a large sum of money without ID is just simplistic and not thought out at all. If you observe how copybotters operate or have personal experience as a creator in the trouble that copybotters cause you would not have said that. Most copybotters sell stolen content at a very low price or distribute them for free, through multiple accounts and even have their own forums outside of SL to discuss copybotting. Not only do they distribute the stolen content which devalues the creations, they also intend to harrass the creators through multiple accounts. As evident through reported chat logs of copybotters, they are mostly a sociopathic group of griefers that get a kick out of offending others and feeling above the law. They are not all interested in getting rich through selling stolen content but more to distribute stolen content to each other so that they have toys to troll the grid with for free and harass the creators that actual made the content. If they are indeed after real money by selling stolen content they still can do so by generating ad revenue on their forums outside SL or they can still go under the radar by selling small ammounts of lindens below the threshold through creating new avatars as copybotters have always done.

Marketplace reviews - useless?
Charli Infinity replied to StreamOfPraise's topic in General Discussion Forum
A review is only suppose to be feedback about what you like or dislike or about the product, telling others not buy it is crossing the line to attacking the bussiness and creator. I know a creator who told me that some bloggers left negative reviews telling others not buy her item after she refused to give them blog review copies for free. It's not unreasonable I think, a lot of freeloaders will threaten creators with reviews telling others not to buy to ruin their bussinesses. You can express what you don't like about the item but you're not suppose to tell other people disruptive things like "don't buy it" or things like "stay away from this". Anyone can flag a review and LL will "ivestigate" so it's not the creator that removed it. -
I have a feeling maitreya and truth will be favorites for a lot of people
-
Tell me your favourite stores or store where you buy most of your stuff from in SL by category and the reason why they are you favorite :matte-motes-nerdy: clothes shoes hair skin AO or add any other category

Yeah. I saw a video of it. I get what it is now.
-
That's good. Finally something that could reduce lag and look good at the same time.
-
Oh it does look a lot more impressive in video than in pictures. The details on the jacket in the video looks really good, how they can make wrinkles buttons and collars with a low poly mesh as a base... That looks exciting! I remember reading somewhere before this that materials will make SL look completely different , got my hopes up a little to high..Felt a bit disappointed that it doesn't look that much different than what SL looks like now just maybe more efficient.
-
and it would take 3 maps for 1 object? That means more to render and more lag? are maps like textures?
-
Good thread. Some people make it sound like they will be exact identical clones with standard sizing when the truth is only a few sliders are affected.
-
they look just like normal flat textured prims though... kind of dissapointing
-
I've heard about this but what is a normal map? when is it coming? Is it more work to make?
-
Ok. I'm not a maker so I don't know about this stuff. Magika hair is very popular... Obviously a lot people don't know about this either. All the high polygon meshes lagging up SL... Maybe there should be a polygon limit for attachment like LI for land to reduce lag but a lot of people would be mad abou that.
-
Does a mesh with a lot of polygons means more lag in SL? I notice when I wear a mesh with high polygons, it will start to lag and the frame rate drops until it looks like a stop motion animation. An example is mesh hair from Magika. If you rez it and select it in build, you can see it is made with a whole lot of polygons! Everytime I wear the hair it will start to lag. The hair also has color change hud script in it so I'm not sure if it's the script or the ammount of polygons in the mesh that's causing the lag. So...does high polygon count means more lag?

Have you seen this hair & Skin? [NSFW] -SOLVED!

It's from Chemistry, a small but nice mesh shop. The hair name is Bubbles and it has two types of bangs attachments. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Chemistry-HAIR-Bubbles-DEMO/4452191 https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Chemistry-HAIR-Bubbles-Blooms/4452220 -
I noticed this difference too. One of the reason could be that making good quality things in SL is harder now and less people have the skill or time to do it. A few years ago people can just make a skirt by using flexi prims and that would be considered a good quality item but now it takes some knowledge and skill in 3D program to make something that's considered good quality. The other obvious reason is just that there are less active people on SL now compared to a few years ago.

These are not real people...

I doubt it. Those characters are made by pros. In second life, most of the creators are not pros, just a small group of them are. There are some full body mesh avatar replacement but then that limits what the avatar could wear and avatars end up having the same face.
