Now that Stroker has left Second Life leaving his sex engine behind for free with Full Permissions how will this change SL as we know it? Everything on SL should be free. Everything that's good about SL is already free and everything that's wrong with it is due to it being run by Capitalists who care about nothing but corporate profit. I call upon everyone who Creates to renounce greed and share freely with others, in the spirit of Jesus Christ, Karl Marx and John Lennon. Imagine! Jeanne

Anywho, the Firestorm viewer is all well and good (less laggy, doesn't hack my soundcard to bits, etc), but, I'm having an issue where my feet are stuck in the ground. I tried a lot of different hotfixes including rebaking, complete character test, creating a new LSL bridge, and moving Firestorm's cache. I tried the Z-Modifier thing, but only I can see that and after I start walking, it doesn't work anymore. Help? Try hitting the PageUP button on your keyboard.
  3. My avatar's name is the same as my name in real life, except for her last name which is the name of my best friend and benefactor in SL. Since she adopted me as her little sister I adopted her family name. Jeanne Anne Decosta

This is ridiculous. I had no idea! Jeanne Well, idk...what more would you expect them to do to confirm age? Background checks? Sworn statements from someone? I think they do all they can do when it comes to age confirmation. I guess that since they can't authentically confirm age, there's no point in being hypocritical about it. If the legal climate is such that they can't offer adult entertainment without imposing some bogus policy that harms who knows how many people without effectively protecting minors, maybe they should just forget the whole thing. Go out of business or not worry about who may or may not be lying about their age. One or the other. The present policy obviously isn't working. My younger brothers are in their 20s now, but when they were teens they both were extremely internet savvy, especially the older of the two. In fact, he was an accomplished hacker who pulled off some outrageous stuff & never got caught. This AR policy LL imposes on ppl would've just been laughable to them. If they had wanted to violate age policies or grief a website or worse... they would've. I don't want more naive kids than they were getting hurt. That's the last thing I would want to see happen. So in one sense I applaud LL for trying to protect minors from the kinduv pervs who lurk around places like sl -- or would if I thot that was what they were doing rather than just covering their a**es, or thinking that's what they're doing. But, I mean, let's get real! A policy that grieves prolly tens of thousands without effectively protecting kids at all, is just stupid. Worse than stupid, it gives all the power to vindicative griefers while denying any effective recourse to the falsely accused. It doesn't cover their corporate a**es and neither does it protect kids. If LL can't do any better than this, they deserve to go out of businees. Yet, I would hate to see that happen because I'm still newbie enuf to be having fun in sl. A lotuv posts on these forums are about how sl is "more than a game" & about how relationships established in sl are real. It's true. I've made some wonderful friends in sl already! I just hate seeing the idiots in charge of LL ruining sl by paranoia & stupidity. I wish that ppl with some heart, intelligence & business sense would take LL over, is all ... Thanks for listening to me vent, but this AR policy is just the epitome of stupidity. Jeanne

There's whole threads about how newbies don't stick & oldies are leaving like rats deserting a sinking ship. About how tiers are too high & the rl economy is tanking & sl along with it. I wonder how many ppl have been falsely accused of being underaged by griefers. Thousands? 10s of thousands..?? I've really enjoyed my 5 or 6 weeks in sl but I'll tell ya one thing: it happens to me & I'm not going thru all that rigamarole to "prove" who I am. If someone reports that you are underage, you will be suspended until you prove to LL that you are not underage (which can be difficult, expensive [if you need to talk to someone at LL over the phone but live somewhere there is no toll-free number available], and time consuming). I understand that to prove your age in such cases, you will need to send a clear copy of acceptable (to LL) proof of age (a faxed copy of your passport for instance). I think it usually takes a couple of weeks on average, based on what I have read others saying when it has happened to them. Wow... That is so wrong. Such a poor business model. I'm new but from what I hear SL is in terminal decline & won't last much longer. With policies like this I can see why...

Thank you Mayalily! This must be what happened to me once, then. I couldn't figure out why I was just a white egg, until I noticed that I wasn't wearing a shape. Since I didn't detach my shape, I had no idea why I lost it. Now I see what must've happened. In fairness to myself, tho, I believe that I was still using Viewer 2 when this happened. With Viewer 2 I couldn't see how crazy bouncy I was. Once I switched to Firestorm I was embarrassed and quickly learned how to use the physic's sliders to make my body movement more realistic. Jeanne
  9. I bet that it's happened to everyone, where you're moving around and let go of the arrow key and just keep on going, right thru walls, thru peoples houses, thru everything! .. and for longer than 10 seconds, too! I guess this happens because of "lag." What's the point of a 10 second warning when lag often last longer than 10 seconds?

  11. When I used Viewer 2 I couldn't even see how bouncy I was. When I switched to Firestorm I was embarrassed how crazy bouncy my butt & boobs were. It was ridiculous. So I switched from the physics I had to a "less bouncy physics." I don't remember where I got this but since I have no $L it was either a freebie or someone gave it to me. Even with this less bouncy physics I've edited the bounce & sway WAY down, like <20% or so. As with the ppl who make male genitalia, those who make physics need to get real. A more bouncy physics set to >50% isn't even comical, it's just plain silly.

I gave her green eyes but my rl eyes are brown. That's the main difference, besides being prettier, being able to dance aerobically all evening long, breathe underwater and fly! LoL
  13. What do you call a person with an XYY karyotype, severe congenital hypospadiasis, who is bisexual and has an ambiguous gender identity? A person. To my mind, this is about all there is to say about this topic. "You are what you is." Jeanne

They're having their chat & I attempt to enter in & basically get ignorned. This is typical, altho some ppl will go outuv their way to interact w/ strangers. Once you've established your own circle of friends you'll have ppl to chat with, if they're inworld when you are. Meanwhile, don't take being ignored personally. Ppl aren't ignoring you purposefully just to hurt your feelings. They're just interacting w/ their friends & don't know you. Jeanne
  15. Okies, well... thank you everyone for all your suggestions. Maybe I'll have to organize my own flying race someday. I'll let you all know when I do! Thanks! Jeanne

I haven't talked to him in awhile. He's sweet but we live in way different timezones and speak different languages. He's also kinduv possessive. I guess we're through so if you want to date him, feel free! ..so far as I'm concerned.
  17. One of the things I like most about SL is being able to fly. Every time I'm inworld I spend at least a ltl time practicing flying. I fly around & between things, over & under things, and practice making smooth landings. The other day I got a pink feather that allows me to fly really high. There are all kinds of things way up there in the sky!! Who knew? There are houses & trees and even a shark swimming around in a ltl square of ocean way up in the sky. Why don't they tell newbies about these things? I also fly underwater and there are cool things down there, too. My pink feather allows me to fly high, and I even have a parachute for getting back down, and I have a flight accelerator for flying really fast. I use these things to fly and I want to be the best flyer in SL. So, my question is..... Are there any flying races in SL? Races where you can win $L if youre the fastest? Or races where you have to fly around stuff, or over stuff? If there are, I'd like to know about them. I may not be good enuf to win yet, but the more I practice the better I am at flying. I'd like to compete in flying races, if there are any.

But he wasn't my master, just wanted to help. LoL Tamara, this reminds me of something that happened like my 1st or 2nd week in SL. I was somewhere, minding my own business, and this guy comes up to me & says, "I'm going to collar you, girl!" And I'm like, "You are?" He says, "Yes. Follow me." So we TP to this place that sold all this slave stuff. "Pick a collar," he says. I'm like, "Shouldn't you pick it for me"? "Oh... Yeah!" he says, and I think 'What kind of master is this?' So he choses a collar, pays for it & puts it on me & locks it. Then he starts explaining to me what all I have to do to activate it. He says that he will do if for me if I give him access to my account. I think about this then tell him, "Know what? Cya.." and TPed home. He starts bombarding me w/ IMs, of course, until I get tired, log off & go to bed. Next day I get an IM from a woman asking me who I am & how come her husband gave me access to their land. I say that I didn't even know that I had access to their land. Then it dawns on me & I tell her that her husband must be the guy I stole the slave collar from. I proceed to tell her the story & she thinks it's funny. We had a good time chatting, largely about what a doof her husband is! She says that they actually are looking for a slave girl & I tell her that I wouldn't mind RPing their slave girl some Saturday afternoon but that no way am I going to activate that collar. She understands & we part company friends. That evening I go dancing w/ my friends out over the water. I'm still wearing that collar, they notice it & it's like "OMG! You've been collared!" I say "Naw, not really. I stole this collar." Then I explain what happened & everyone laughs about it. "That's one way to get free jewelry," I'm told. I still have that collar in my inv & wear it sometimes, kinduv as a trophy. I don't believe in stealing, mind you, but in this case, I felt like that doofy Dom guy needed to be taught a lesson! :matte-motes-big-grin-evil: EDIT: Btw Tamara, you don't happen to be related to Berry Artis, do you?
  19. I had the absolutely best luck in having met, on my very first day in SL, my wonderful friends Dream Decosta and Kallisti Enoch. They have been nothing but cordial, generous, helpful and loving towards me and I appreciate them SOOOooooo much that I can never thank them enough for all they've done for me. thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU my dear sisters Dream & Kalli!!! This past weekend I met a 1st day newbie in a blues club. I befriended her & helped her to touch the dance annie ball & told her about Freebie Galaxy & other stuff. But I couldn't help but feel that I'd had all the luck, not her. My very first day I met Dream & Kalli and her first day she only met me. Jeanne
  20. >>As for gynecomastia, why is an endocrine condition not a developmental condition?<< Because in this context, "development" may be considered more or less complete by the end of organogenesis, around the end of the first trimester. An endocrine imbalance or disorder that typically occurs during puberty isn't profitably regarded as being a developmental issue. >>This is where we disagree. The physical development continues until the age of 22-25 (some traits develop even later, such as the ruddy cheek color in older males that signals dominance). Puberty is a very important developmental stage, especially when it comes to gender development. Unless we are talking about environmentally introduced hormones or the estrogene-producing tumors that you've mentioned, all post-birth morphological development is ultimately congenital, since our genes determine our neuroendocrine development and our endocrine activity<<. Well, if processes beyond the embryonic stage, and continuing into puberty and early adulthood, are going to be considered "developmental" then so may as well geriatric conditions be. There's nothing really "wrong" with this perspective except that to my mind it makes the term "developmental" unprofitably generic. >>Gender identification is mostly based on facial and other morphological cues.<< I would amend this statement by saying that 'Gender identification is mostly based on OTHER PEOPLE'S REACTION to facial & other morphological cues.' I guess it boils down to the semantics of the term "gender." What you're calling gender characteristics I'm calling secondary sexual characteristics. To me, gender is the entire panoply of culturally inculcated responses & behaviors largly based on the reactions of others to primary & secondary sexual features. I think that the only difference between what we're saying is that you apply the terms "developmental" and "gender" more broadly than I do. Jeanne Edited for spelling.
  21. >>But this urethral misdevelopment has nothing to do with an intersex condition.<< But indeed it does. Review your college embryology text re: the ontogeny of male morphology from female-like primordia. The closure of the scrotal & "penyle" raphe and positioning of the urethral tube is the very essence of male genital development, with intersexed conditions resulting from something going haywire with this development. >>I also don't know if I would list clitoral hypertrophy or clitoromegaly as an intersex condition. I'd put this down to normal phenotypic variation...<< Yes, conditions near either pole of this developmental continuum should be considered nothing more than examples of normal phenotypic variation. But conditions further removed from either pole are decidedly pathological and usually require surgical intervention. >>The neuroendocrine system is exactly what causes the development of different gender traits.<< I don't believe so. The neuroendocrine systems is what accounts for the development of primary and secondary sexual characteristics, but "gender" characteristics are largely culturally imposed, admittedly often in response to primary and secondary sexual characteristics but not exclusively so. >>If it's out of whack, there is usually an underlying genetic predisposition. Of course there can be environmental factors in some cases, such as gynecomastia caused by lavender soap or soy products, but those are exceptions. If the excess estrogene is produced by the own body and not artificially introduced, there are genetic factors at work.<< Often countervalent excesses of sex hormones are due to adrenal or gonadal tumors. The etiology of these tumors may be genetic or environmental, or more likely the nonadditive interaction of genetic & environmental factors. Think of it this way Ishtara: Think of the sliders we use to modify the looks of our avatars. Think of these issues as a slider set somewhere between 0 & 100: Genetic sex: XO to XYY, with XX & XY in between. Anatomical sex: Typical female morphology to typical male, with intersexed conditions somewhere in between. Hormonal sex: Overwhelming preponderance of estrogenic & progesterogenic steroids to overwhelming preponderance of androgens, with most of us somewhere in between. Sexual orientation: Exclusive heterosexuality to exclusive homosexuality, with bisexuality somewhere in between. Gender identification: Culturally stereotypical feminine identification to culturally stereotypical masculine identification, with incogruous or ambiguous identifications & gender bending somewhere in between. Gender role: Same as above. Where these sliders are set may often be correlated but there is certainly no biological reason why they must be. This is how I look at these issues, anyway... Jeanne

I agree that the majority of humans have rather unambiguous gender characteristics but believe this to be due to socialization & cultural conditioning, having little to do with biology. Unless you want to argue that culture is biological, which I would agree with, making the distinction between a cultural versus biological origin of gender distinctions moot. How come "penyle" (sic) gets **bleeped** but "clitoral" doesn't? Is even the censorship sexist?

  24. I think that "gender" is a social construct that has no biological reality. Even genetic sex can be ambiguous, as all the XO, XXY, XYY karyotypes attest. As for anatomical sex, there's every intergrade from mild hypospadiasis to a slightly enlarged clitty. So just be yourself & don't worry about whatever gender stereotype you may project to others.
