  1. I got the whole set of Torley's textures, and I want to load them into a texture organizer so I can sift through them.

I've tried to load them into my inventory, but each time I can see that they aren't all there. I mean, if I compare what's in my inventory to what's inside the box, I can see that many just didn't get copied.

Does anyone know where I could get them in smaller bunches, or have some recommendation of how I can grapple with such a huge load of textures?

  2. Because I use Firestorm, I wasn't aware that the official viewer's inventory didn't have cut-and-paste. I don't know how people can get along without it!

In any case, one feature that would be lovely to have is to be able to put on prim items as easily as you can other types of clothes. I mean, if an item is highlighted, and you hit ENTER, it should go onto your body, whether it's a prim or not. Ditto for double-clicking an item. It would make inventory far more intuitive, since all items would behave the same.

  3. Think about it this way: you don't have to re-do eighty-three shapes if you want to sell them.

What I mean is, most shape shops only display about a dozen shapes. You only have to get a small number of shapes ready in order to start selling them. I think somewhere between seven and ten would be enough.

What do you need to sell a shape? You need to make your own copy of the shape, as everyone's been saying. Then you need to take pictures, so people can see what they're buying. It's good to show the whole body, a close up of the face, and a shot from the back. A demo (with huge hands and feet) is pretty much expected, although not all sellers do that.

Some sellers also include a styling card, so people who want to look exactly like the picture know where to find the skin, hair, and eyes used in the photo.

Once you get all that ready, you can start selling, and take your time on the other seventy or so. As you finish each one, you can announce it as a new release.

By the way, an easy way to copy the values is to open two sessions of the viewer side by side (using two different accounts). One account wears the original, and your main account wears the new shape you're creating.

  4. I ordered seven items from Marketplace while I was at work. Tonight when I logged in, I accepted each one of them.

Moments later when I went to organize the items, I couldn't find any! I looked up the names in my Marketplace account, searched for each one, and none of them were there.

I looked at grid status, but don't see any problem listed there.

Edited to add:  I wish there was an easier way to reply to responses, but... thanks for replying, LoveAngel. I *was* charged for the items, I was *sent* the items, I *accepted* the items, but they don't appear in my inventory. I know I can get them sent again, but where did they go the first time?

I've had the same experience: I used to be first in search, and now I don't seem to be there at all.  I guess LL hasn't worked out all the kinks of this username/display name business.

Even if you search for "Victoria Resident" I don't appear.

That may be related to your profile coming up blank:

Should it? There seems to be a bug right now where some people will fully filled in profiles come up with blank entries when viewed.

No, there is stuff in my profile. I have my privacy settings to "Second Life" so you have to log in to my.secondlife.com to see it on the web.

People do see my profile inworld, too. I know because in the past couple of days people have commented on it.

I have received gifts meant for people whose display name is Victoria, so I know for a fact that display names can mix people up.

With the name 'Reggae' I get an IM every now and then asking about some 'event', 'sale' or 'DJ' schedule.

I got in early on this account, since its an alt and I therefore knew what was coming, and got a meaningful name - so people assume the account is something commercial.

I just happen to be Rastafarian and a lover of Reggae. Rasta was taken, Rastagirl / Rastawoman sound cheesy, Rastafari would be heretical, and Reggae was just right.
    ;)

For a while I was first in search, then I was pulled from search, and now I'm back to first in search...

Yeah, you've got a good name!

To further your little analysis lets say on both the email and voicemail you sent/left you make it a point  to call your landlord a name other than his name.  Say his name is Rod Humble and you decide to address him as Mr. Bumble.  Just for laughs, of course, but how would you expect Mr. Humble to react?  Would he be inclined to bust his butt to please you?  Or would he just think, "Well the monthly rent check is good so I'll just ignore it and do what I think needs to be done."  Actually, if he reacted that way that is quite admirable on his part.

I've never done those things. If you have, you have only yourself to blame.

     Same goes for you.

  8. The relation between us and LL is like this:

Imagine that you are renting an apartment, and every so often your landlord changes something. You never see him; he always does it when you're out. Some of the things he does are good and some are not. You're grateful for some of his changes, but others drive you up the wall. He will do good things like paint the hallway, but he doesn't fix the leaky toilet you've been complaining about for months. And even though he promptly cashes your rent checks, you have no way of communicating with him. You can send him letters or emails or leave voicemail messages, but you never know whether he reads them. And yet, on the whole, it's a cool place to live, and you haven't seen anything better...

I think that LL is like that landlord. He thinks he's doing what needs to be done, and it never occurs to him that he needs to talk to his tenants at all.

Would you be more inclined to buy single pieces from a line that mixes and matches, or to buy a whole boxed wardrobe of pieces that work together, but might contain items you will rarely or never wear?

That is, would you buy an 8-piece ensemble that could be endlessly combined, even if it included a skirt you didn't like?  Or would you prefer to buy 7 seperate pieces that you love?

For me, simpler is better. I have a few outfits that came as two or three (or more) looks, and I put them aside until I had the time to figure them out. Once I decide how I want to wear it, I delete all the rest.

If I'm in a hurry, I don't even look at folders of clothes like that. I reserve them for the times when I'm sorting through inventory.

It says pretty clearly they're thinking of putting back the option in the registration proccess. So it looks like I'll be staying Resident. I've invested alot into this account already, I'm not willing to abandon it. A last name would be cool, but I'm not gonna cry if it doesnt happen. I wasnt around when you could pick names, so to me its like a benifit of having been here. Happy for those of you that have family names,  pretty content to be an orphan lol.

Yeah, I'm not going for a last name either. I feel like an archetype with this name.

While I think the option of a last name would be a good idea, it seems like the people who are the most vocal about bringing back last names are the people who already have one.

I`m curious, what was the "trouble" that you went to in order to get that name.

For one thing, back in days when there were last names, I tried many many MANY times to get a name that was Victoria Something.

I used to go to slnamewatch.com and the alternative sign-up places, trying one last name after another.

But every damn last name that I tried -- and I tried a great many -- already had a Victoria.

For at least a year, at least once every two or three weeks, I ran through all the new names and names I hadn't tried. (I kept a list.)

Then, when the new system was initiated, I hurried to get this name.

That was my "trouble" -- I didn't have to kill anyone, no, and I didn't have to climb walls or dodge bullets. But I made consistent and methodical efforts over many months.

But I was also implying that most people don't go to any trouble when they choose an account name. They simply pick something that passes the "that name is not available" test.

My point is that my name means something to me, even if it isn't one of the classic firstname/lastname types, and that if last names do come back, I wouldn't want to lose what I have.

I didn't put the same emphasis on the word "trouble" that you did. I would say that you went to the trouble of choosing a decent account name. You didn't have to, but you did.

  12. The thing is, even if you grant that display names and no-last-names is a terrible idea, there are some of us who *like* not having a last name, and don't use display names.

I don't like display names, but I respect  them.

I mean, I would never use a display name, but if someone else does, that's what I call them.

I love my name, and in most situations I don't see or hear the Resident part of it. No one has ever called me "Ms. Resident" but I wouldn't care if they did, because it would be such an unusual thing.

My question is, if last names DO come back, then what happens to people like me, who went to the trouble of getting a decent account name?

  13. This morning I was talking to someone on my friend list, and he said he didn't know I was online... which I thought was weird, until I looked at my friend list and found that he and about a dozen other people were unchecked.

I suddenly understood why another friend was so surprised when I popped up the other day.

I'm sure I could have done this accidentally, but it's hard to imagine how, since the names weren't all together in the list: there were scattered all over my list.

Is there a way I could have done this without realizing? Or is this some kind of glitch?

The thing is, I don't usually look at my friend list or do anything with it. I see who's online in my chat window.

    Has this happened to you?
