When will you be drafting a JIRA requesting the relevant changes that are obviously necessary to eliminate this shameless repurposing of what appears, despite the apparent criticisms which seem to be continually raised, to otherwise be a perfect land administration mechanism? Should a protest be organised in these forums and via the Linden Profile feeds and IM channels, and the activist mechanisms that Twitter offers used to publicise this disgraceful perversion of LL provided facilities? Perhaps we could get Prok involved, and write a letter to the SL Herald or whichever news organ is most influential. I hesitate to suggest that other forums might be approached to lend weight to the campaign, although I have heard that LL's CEO posts more to third party outlets than here. What do you think? *** Rudi ***
  2. Ann Otoole wrote: it is critical one does not use SL groups for anything except land management and people make sure they never allow strangers into their goups. Groups in SL are not currently meant for social networking and it is not LL's fault people are abusing groups. Thank you for clarifying the situation. I shall resign from all the social groups I am a member of as soon as I get inworld, and henceforth intend to AR everyone I see that flaunts membership of such groups, for flagrant breaches of LL's intent. *** Rudi ***
  3. I trust that LL are going to be sensible about this sort of intervention, since I am in the difficult position where my original IP address was being attacked by malefactors - albeit of a fairly amateur standard - on a regular basis, according to my ISP, who are pursuing them through the appropriate channels. My ISP has changed my IP address and encouraged me to use methods to hide it (I am currently using TOR, which I am finding is excellent in terms of reliability and performance, and in supporting editing facilities which the free proxy sites do not, although it does confuse Google which keeps offering its services in the language which it believes appropriate to my apparent locale - not Klingon yet though!) which would make me appear as a modern day Phileas Fogg to LL. I can understand LL being concerned regarding the hijacking of accounts, but it should really be more sensitive to those who may have entirely innocent reasons for their IP addresses varying (those who conect via public wireless networks using Android smartphones, those who live out of suitcases in hotels becase of their jobs, those who live in countries where communications are channeled through official proxies for censorship purposes, those who use proxies to AVOID censorship in those countries etc . . .) and hold back from suspending accounts before having first made an attempt to verify whether the circumstances are as suspicious as they might appear. A much more sensible approach would be to freeze financial transactions on the account temporarily while allowing access to all other facilities. This is, of course, just my opinion. *** Rudi ***
  4. Ann Otoole wrote: SL groups were never intended for social networking. Is this true? Has anyone informed all those who have created groups without any reference whatsoever to land management? Does LL realise that all those people are deliberately misusing the supposedly restricted facilities that it has provided? Should something be done about this overt flouting of the intentions of LL? Does this abuse of the correct use of the capability warrant disciplinary action? Now that this issue has been brought to the attention of LL is it likely that all extant groups will be reviewed and all those which have no land management use deleted? I think we should be told. *** Rudi ***
  5. Back in the day when I used to be interested in such things, Oryx Tempel used to have a really interesting range of ethnic clothing and accessories at the International House of Style. I haven't checked recently, but a quick look at her profile or search (which I can't do at the moment) should confirm whether I am out of date or not. *** Rudi ***
  6. I can confirm that November 2011 has now been formally confirmed as LL's official "Month of Embarrassment". *** Only a couple more weeks to go, guys. *** Rudi ***
  7. I understand that administrative hold is primarily used when LL's artifical intelligence tripwires think that they identify monetary transactions on acounts which might be fraudulent or involve theft or money laundering. I would check your account transaction history and if you can identify transfers that you have made legitimately you might want to send information to LL explaining why these have been entered into, particularly if they are large and of an in-and-out nature. Also, if there are transactions of this type which you have not initiated, but you might have ignored as compensating "errors" if they have had no net effect on you, you should attempt to explain to LL how they might have been processed through your account. *** An unfortunate situation exists whereby LL have had bad experiences with accounts from some Eastern European countries (Romania and Hungary in particular) and they are very sensitive to unusual monetary transactions from such locations. If you fall into that category then you are going to have to work pretty hard to explain any out of the ordinary transactions if you want your account restored. *** Rudi ***

Was there not a small thread here that asked if the Vampires forum was going to be deleted now the event had run its course? *** Rudi ***

  16. Griefing is not covered by the Community Guidelines, and therefore is a non-issue in relation to these Forums. More important is the apparent fluidity of official interpretation of the Community Guidelines which apply to these Forums. Recently these Community Guidelines seem to have been relaxed to permit spamming, discussion of non-SL topics and promotion of businesses in a discussion forum where those prohibitions should exist - for the purpose of a marketing initiative! Furthermore, the guarantee in the Community Guidelines that "Spirited discussion and constructive disagreement are welcome" seems also to have been suspended when that spirited discussion and constructive disagreement has been to the detriment of the aforementioned marketing initiative. While I applaud the principle of raising this issue, Perrie, I think we should initially restrict - here - the focus of any discussion of the inadequacies of adminstration of these forums, and shortfalls in communication regarding changes in their usage, to the way in which these changes contravene or contradict the extant Community Guidelines. I haven't used any asterisks yet, so here are some. *** Rudi ***
