  1. Hello! I am awaiting the delivery of my new gaming laptop and would love to make a return to SL and to create again. Hair was always my main interest, but the last time I made hair it was sculpt hair in Maya. Obviously things have changed a lot! I’m hoping I can switch to Blender and figure out mesh. I would love to surround myself with creatives and other people with the same interests - unfortunately a lot of my friends on SL are no longer active. I never spent a lot of time in public areas, I was always in a skybox stood on a pose stand (are those even a thing now?!), but I’m between making things me and my friends always had fun. If anyone is interested in getting to know me I would really appreciate it. SL can be a lonely place without friends! I am determined to re-learn how to use the programmes that I used to and to create again. I’m a student nurse and need a hobby that does not involve writing University essays! Add me on River Ogleby, or private message me on here! 💜 River
  2. I’ll give it a try! The last time I made anything was 2012- can’t wait to get back into it.
  3. Well, I haven’t used Maya for years and I have had experience using Blender - so I may just use that over Maya! I just haven’t made hair in Blender, but I’m sure it won’t take me too long to learn! The interface is less intimidating too. So the 3070 is the one! Thanks for your help. Looking forward to experiencing SL with a little less (or a lot less) lag than I did when I logged in using the MBP!
  4. That’s a good point! Do you think the specs of the Lenovo would be good enough for the programmes I mentioned? Thanks
  5. OR - this is a bit more expensive and is refurbished ASUS ROG Zephyrus S 15.6" Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7-9750H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD Intel Core i7 9th Gen. Processor 15.6 in Screen Size , 1920 x 1080 32 GB RAM , 1 TB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 GPU Windows 10
  6. Thoughts on this laptop & spec? LENOVO Legion 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop AMD Ryzen 7 5800H Processor RAM: 16 GB / Storage: 512 GB SSD Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB Full HD screen / 165 Hz Battery life: Up to 8 hours
  7. Thank you for your responses! I will definitely take everything said into consideration. I just hope a laptop is sufficient enough. Though to be honest in SL I am quite boring and spend most time with people in skyboxes, so lag is only ever an issue if I go shopping or I need to take pictures with really high settings.
  8. Hello! This question is really aimed at the creators of SL, but I am happy for answers from everyone! After many years I am hoping to return to SL having logged in briefly on my MacBook Pro and developing ‘the bug’ again. Long story short, I have now returned that MBP and would like a gaming laptop. I know that desktop PCs are preferable for SL and would be optimum for someone who is a creator using software such as Maya and Photoshop. Despite this, I enjoy the portability of a laptop and I wouldn’t be spending time in heavily populated SL locations, nor would I want it on high settings unless I was taking photos for products. I have budget of 1000-1500 and would be grateful if anyone could recommend me a laptop that would suit my needs. I would combine this with a cooling pad and a mouse. Also I know this question has been asked many times - but I haven’t seen one in 2021! Thank you River
  9. Okay, so I'm pretty new (like today new) to learning mesh and I'm not too sure what I need. I'm aware that I need the Second Life avatar .obj and an avatar skeleton, I'm just not sure what to do with the two. So I was wondering, is there one that's already rigged that I could just use to build things upon? I know once I've done this there's alot more to it (weighting etc.), but I guess I'll face that hurdle when I get to it! :matte-motes-silly: I usually make hair using maya (just average sculpted hair), so if there's any resources you can provide that are compatible with Maya 2013, I would really appreciate it. I feel like a complete newbie again...:matte-motes-confused:
