  1. I have made such a thing once. Its a complicated job, and you definitely need SQL knowledge for it. Its a pré. Use the LSL functions of HTTPRequest post/get. Like i sayed, its complicated and if you dont have time/capability of going into SQL, you should get something thats pre-made and adjust it.
  2. Remember those days where 50% of the world existed from 'meerkats' ?
  3. You are very right, but i do think with the right guidance a new player may be kept away from the mix and pushed forward into the right direction. I feel that you do not need hands of gold, or infinite pockets to achieve your goals on SL. Residents are in general very friendly and giving aslong as you deserve it. Griefing is not the way to get to those places. I do miss Medieval SL, and you are right that the bigger corperations are taking over from the small craftsmen. I used to know some very talented builders on SL that payed there IRL rents from what they earned. Not by spamming there logos on forums, or flooding mainland with adboards .. but by pure quality and originality. It rips me apart to find out they were torn off by the mass.
  4. It's good to know the opinion of fellow residents i suppose hehe
  5. You shouldn't feel embaressed in any way for friending up in SL. Actually it might even be so extremely popular because its a shelter for anybody who is afraid of showing it's true colours. I bet theres load's of people around here that are well-hearted enough to get you on your feet on this world we enjoy so much. Best of luck, Finrod.
  6. Amen to all the builders, scripters, fashionists and texturers that do still follow there heart as the paint for there creations. I deeply respect anybody who makes a daydream to prims.
  7. All the things a catchy slogan can do to a person ghehe.
  8. What feature did you love to use before it got removed? Or what feature makes you obey the Lindens for adding it? Personally, i regret the direct ingame support with the Lindens. I guess it was being spammed/flooded, but it felt more personal and safe that there was always a direct line resident-to-linden. Also small problems could be solved in a shorter time notice then tickets.
  9. I'm very glad your experience is similar to mine Jo, i actually pmed you before you replyed to this that i liked that project of yours. It looks really well done. I want to thank you for sharing your story. I also think we watched the same show, with the guy that was working on some music player?! Hehe. I think i'll see you on grid soon, if not best of pleasure with your adventures!
  10. Might consider that indeed, thanks for the support anyways! I guess ill have to find out if i want to actually take part in a longer visit. Maybe i'll consider it if im hooked up with some friends/community. It's quite a cold and dusty world when your alone hehe. The last time i rented, was on a simmy. The owner 'denied' receiving payment even after showing the L$ logs .. Best of regards.
  11. Dear reader, I've been trying to set-up some kind of anti-scam informing website/community/paper on SL. Allot of people on SecondLife are still being scammed sometimes with a stunning big amount of money. Informing, comforting or even preventing Residents to become victim to this would be a great achievement. As the title explains this is volunteering, there are no obligations/requirements. But I do expect you to be social and committed to the purpose. I haven't yet decided on any plan of making it happen, so I am looking for open minded, active and creative socialbirds around. I have opened tickets asking Linden Labs for support on this, but they are not willing to co-operate. Perhaps lack of interess, time or tools. We all know how buzy the Lindens are already. Information about: -How to set-up a riskfree business. -Protecting your creations. -The right process if you have fallen to content abusers/copybotters. Allot of residents are clueless in such subjects. Even if the anti-scamteam is a succes, the main rule will be never to accept any kind of fee/payment for the work you do. It is a free perk any resident may use. If you have a good heart, and you are interested in taking part in such group/community please do reply. For goodness sake of the duped residents.
  12. Thank you, it's been quite a dissapointing experience so far.
  13. I guess this story will be a big bore for all the experienced players. But the new players may be inspired by it anyhow on some way or another. I thought I'd tell you how I ever started on SL. I think it was short after SL had developed from 'messenger login screen' to actual viewer after seeing something about it on the telly. First thing I did was hop onto the grid and I started hammering away. I build some chairs and random furniture witch in my eyes seemed pretty well done. I suppose they will now just appear are cylinders. After finding out building wasn't really my talent, I met a guy called Thoys. He sold bots that we're used in the camping-ages of SL. Next to his shop (where I was usually floating around.) I met a photographer, who made pictures of avatars, processed them in Photoshop and gave them a neutral colored or transparent background. I was greatly inspired by this, I had never done anything into digital art/3d modeling or anything similar. I swiftly went to my home-build 'merchant stall' witch existed from 4 square prims, selling freebie music cds for 1L$. I was usually giving them away for free anyways if I liked the person showing interest. I got myself a trial version of somekind of photo-editing program. The next months I was intrigued by the fun I had on working on peoples avatars. Allot of hours later, I had my own little mainland 'stall'. A square hollow box where the costumer would stand in and be screenshotted with. I'd take away the background and make it something fancy. (Witch would look terrible compared to nowadays.) I only charged about 15 or 10L$, and I was usually done in 5-10 minutes. With as main thought, I was enjoying my life on SL and not getting rich. After working for days on this, i expanded and build a cinema showing movie trailers from Quicktime.com. Ofcourse the only visitor being myself, i had an amazing time. Then i met a friend Jody, he made any prim do magical things. Or atleast, from a noob state of mind. I wanted to learn scripting then. I took on my LSLwiki, and my IM-window and practised for days and days and days. Never really hooked up a big fish, never got a big product because i couldnt build/texture. Also i had 0L$ on me, and i refused to buy lindens. Stubborn as i was, i banged on creating whatever popped-up my fantasy. Even got myself an island in a borrow-work-situation. Ever since these magical noob-experiences, i miss the old SL. I guess the proffesionals took over, creating extremely beautiful houses. Also the open-mindedness of the residents have changed from social to business. Maybe this is why i charish the people that are still in my Friend-list soo much after all this time. The message i am trying to transfer through my story is that SL is not at all money. You can have a laugh without a ton lindens, or a flat reaching out on megaprim heights. I hope you enjoy SL as much as i did. Im currently lost in the modern changes, SL being one big mall with trash. Hard to find a fun community.
  14. Personally, i would go for private region. I've had experience on 'smaller' lots on mainland, and it's drama. You could compare it to an SL Ghetto. Continous lost 'avatars' swarming over your land. (That is if you dont want to spoil your sim with 'red crosslines'.) I suppose you should consider what you will be using your sim for. If you want an enclosed area for a steady community go for private. If you're going to make a massive party/sales-thing going on .. go for mainland perhaps. This is my personal experience with either anyways.
  15. Took me ages to fit something too my being. Either ways i still adapt to my mood. This one morning im drinking coffee, and the baggyness bellow my eyes are dropping .. i usually dont bother and throw on some pre-assembled character nobody notices. If i feel happy, i usually go for the occasion. If i'm on some crazy building project i am a meerkat-in-builders-outfit. If im just socializing i wear my average guy outfit.
  16. I think self-understanding is the point behind LSL. Its not rocket science even thought it might look like it. Take a simple project, indeed simple that you think is achieveable and start making it with use of LSLwiki. If your stuck on something dont spend years chewing your tooth on it, just ask me or any other scripter. In genuine we are not too greedy on advice or even bringing simple solutions :matte-motes-wink: Good luck anyways.
  17. Dear SecondLifers, For days i have been searching, for a peacefull place. A place where one can just sit and enjoy the community, whilst doing some small building and scripting here and there. A place to enjoy aspects of SecondLife. To my dissatisfaction all i found, were laggy overbuild areas. With a bunch of people just ragging around. The overdone mass amount of empty 'rent a shop' advertisements up in the beautiful skyline witch it once were are killer. Does the SecondLife harmony still excist? Or is this returning grid-explorer better off to turn home? p.s: Paying the Lindens nearly 50% of the rent i pay for my IRL home each month, for a sim .. is not an option. Best hugs and loves, asking for your advice. A returning SL vet.
