  1. I did the pro and con list before deciding myself what to get and money was the deciding factor in the end. But I guess it's all down to what is more important to you. Sure neighbors can be a challenge but if you're getting a whole sim you only need to worry about the edges. Alot more work if you got several owners on one sim. There's alot of pretty dividers/screens out there but if you want to be the bigger (wo)man go for the dividers that look like real rocks etc and don't stoop to your neighbors level and but up ugly screens to escalate the matter For a long time I did not even need dividers between the sims of me and my neighbor as we had similar taste but she sold and I got a neighbor who loved great big tropical screens (sigh) but it was easily dealt with really and I try not to think about how much better it was when everyone got along lol. So yeah neighbors definitly something to remember since things change fast in sl. As for terraforming and landscaping a mainland sim. Yes it has its challenges but I do love that challenge. The +-4 meter height is the main concern. Textures you can change by getting a landmapping system. They are really neat. As for privacy. Yes private sims are private. Mainland sims are less private but not so much that it is a concern for those of us who aren't that interesting taht they'll have someone try and fail with the secruity system to get just outside the range of 96 meter ( if you decide to just secure a smaller parcel on your sim with a security orb and hide avatar) to then cam in just to see you standing there ideling or sitting on a sofa which is probably what people do most of the time unless they're rabbits. And by the time they'd positioned themselves and started camming they'd probably been ejected anyway by the owner if they didn't like them hovering there. Mini-map and an alert about people entering your region are nice tools. But yeah much easier on a private sim but also more lonely as you don't get random traffic from roads, waterways and other explorers if you do want people to visit your sim. Lag has not been an issue on my mainland sim. But I might just have gotten lucky I don't know. I have heard about laggy mainland sims but not sure what the causes are. Self created maybe or created by the other sims they share servers with. Remember the sim next to the sim youmight consider buying probably wont effect the lag on your sim as very rarly do neighboring sims share the same server. Atleats that's what I've gathered from some research. Edited to make a bit more sense if possible
  2. Our new sim has turned out to be a little haven for small art galleries. Do drop by if you love art  Commercial rentals are as good as all rented and just a few residential homes still vacant for those still looking for mainland living in a nicely landscaped area. Close to the sea and Route 12.
  3. Thankfully there's now the "hide avatar" option. So as long they're outside the parcel nothing fun to cam in on, only whatever furniture that is there. :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2:
  4. I would think after the new "hide avatar" feature was introduced, which prevents people camming you, there would be more of these reappearing. Paired with a nice security system you can allow neighbors come knocking or be as private as you'd want. I've made a community similar to what you're asking about but not as suburban. But if I were you I wouldn't lose faith about finding one
  5. You're not alone. I added a few more items to my magicbox yesterday and they did not appear on Merchant home at the marketplace after several tries. I even tried a different box and reset several times. They have yet to appear after about 12 hours. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the Inventory DB Maintenance
  6. I get so disappointed when I realize someone I think are alright has one of those statements in their picks. I usually think bright and intelligent people would know better then that. Needless to say I watch what I type to these people when talking to them to be on the safe side and I probably wouldn't friend them. Friends who suddenly have one of those statements I wouldn't trust at all and I'd probably end up keeping convos to "hi", " how are you" and "nice windlight setting isn't it" :matte-motes-evil-invert:
  7. To start the new year we've added two studios to out commercial selection and a house boat in our residential swampy themed area. I like to add that anyone who rents with us does not need to fear there'll be any out of place builds appearing as we prefere to rent out our own selection of builds and only take one tenant builds after reviewing them case by case. In addition to new rentals being added recently we've also cut prices for a limited amount of time. Residential prices now start at 175L/week. Hope to see you around :matte-motes-asleep-2: http://timelostland.blogspot.com/
  8. That is a bit silly that the word white wasn't allowed. I do search for white brick house sometimes, or any of those words depending how much time I have to sift trough things, to get builds that will hopefully fit on my sim. I would say yours do fit the bill to end up on that seach if any.
  9. Oddly enough while I was on a short holiday, and unable to log in, the IM to e-mail function stopped working after about 3 days. I even had a friend send me IMs to test if I got them forwarded but no such luck. When I made it home after another 3 days I found that the option for IM to E-mail was unticked in my viewer. I don't understand how that could happen. Noone has my login and I certainly didn't change it as I am quite dependant on it. I don't know if it is related to your problem though, but I have stopped trusting that I'm getting every IM and notice forwarded to my e-mail.
  10. I love shopping around for builds in-world. But if there was an offer for a demo I'd be happy to get that if the build looks nice enough on the marketplace. This would also include a good description. I would never buy a a build without viewing it properly in 3d again, after making some bad purchases in the past. It's not so much the money wasted but the dissapointment about getting something that really didn't fit the bill of what you were expecting. The biggest annoyance I have to agree is the tp'ing into stores in-world that don't exist anymore. I've been shouted at for ending up in someones house a few times already :matte-motes-grin:
  11. We're now featured in the destination guide. Check us out at (best view with IE atm it seems) http://secondlife.com/destination/time-lost-caf-?lang=en-US Feel free to come visit anytime, even if you are not looking for somewhere to rent :matte-motes-smitten:
  12. Time Lost Land has opened a new rental sim by the sea on mainland. This is mainly a residential community based sim with beautiful landscaped areas. The sim is roadside as well as having access to protected sea. It also has a small art venue for occational live music events, readings and art displays as well as an assortment of shops. We have many different houses or skyboxes to choose from. Ranging from beachy areas on ground the ground with the new hide avatar feature for privacy, a cottage skyland and modern skyboxes. We have resser boats and other fun activities to keep tenants or visitors occupied. Please come visit to have a look around http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fenstriano/112/19/38 http://timelostland.blogspot.com/
  13. I have property lines on at all times but I have to say I really can't make out where the lines are when I'm above water. I usually have to dive down to see the lines on the ground under the water. I might be doing something wrong or I've missed some feature but just turning on property lines doesn't work for me :matte-motes-bashful:
  14. I've had a couple of items missing from rentals where the tenant has left. They did not have the option to either delete or return group items nor move them but they were still gone and not to be found in my lost and found. I have no good explanation for it. Thankfully they were copy items so I just ressed new ones. I find it very puzzeling.
  15. We've recently got the oppurtunity to expand in the area adding a few more nice builds and some community areas. This is higher ground so the landscape and properties aren't as tropical as the other ones. Hope it will spark interest to have a few of you come have a browse if you're looking for a place to stay. :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2:

Can't search a display name in groups. pain in the arse tracking down the exact spelling of their login name ( capitol letters ) Because everything is reduced to small case in name tags, and profiles. However, I kind of like having the ability to change my DN for the fun of it...... This is quite annoying I do agree on that. security/rental systems come to mind... And even if not really important I'd like a proper last name :matte-motes-not-even:
  17. I'm rather new to SL. And I've bought land. Quite a fair bit too, well to me anyway, due to the dollar being weak compared to my countries currency so buying now seemed a good idea. I'm not expecting to make money though. I'll be happy if I get some of my tier financed. But I view this as a hobby, and in that respect seeing how much fun I'm having with landscaping and understanding the makings behind land ownership, it's well worth the money to me. As for mainland the land I've bought hasn't got much lag at all. And for ugly builds. My neighbors seem to be influenced by nice landscaping and I've seen efforts to tone down the worst eyesores out of curtesy, and I applaud them for that :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2: And I have to say making mainland look pretty is a challenge I like to take on. But offcourse both lag and eyesores can pop-up anytime but I'll deal with that when the time comes.
  18. For those who want more information about the land group you can also check out our new blog at http://timelostland.blogspot.com/ It's new so there's not that many entries yet :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2:
  19. My properties are situated in Satang on the Mainland. Still while being on the mainland the the surroundings are soothing and there's not much traffic. Here's a short description of the properties to give a taste of what you can find: Cozy and furnished houses by the water for rent. Quality builds and a great place for those who like to live on ground level with access to shared landscaped park. Now with the new option of hiding avatars on parcel there's no need to worry about privacy on ground. Security and media system included. Rent from 400L/week upwards with additional prims. Furniture can be returned for extra prims and to decorate yourself. Automated group invite when you pay first rent. No need to wait around. Or Modern individual furnished skyhomes for those who rather be airborne. All with attached outside area and the option to use the park on the ground for a nice relaxing time. Security and media system included. Rent from 350L/week upwards with additional prims. Furniture can be returned for extra prims and to decorate yourself. Automated group invite when you pay first rent. No need to wait around. Features for all: * Media System with private stream * Security * By the beach/water * Furnished * Landscaped community area * With hide avatar setting set for parcel Visit my marketplace store to see what's available at the moment. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/90396 Or go in-world http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Satang/239/209/28
  20. I have it enabeled on all the parcels I rent out while I don't have it on for shared community areas. It's also handy to have it enabeled if you have neighbors on parcels who are of the less shy type and you want to spare your renters to see what they're up to. Hide avatar on parcel also means you can't see avatars on other parcels without the feature. Many of my customers were not aware of this feature but was very happy to hear about it when I informed them that I had set my parcels to hide avatars. If anyone of my renters requests me not to have it for the parcel they're renting I'd offcourse remove it. But over-all it has brought a few people down from the sky which I think is great. Though my skyboxes aren't that popular anymore Edit: as for people "accidentally" walking onto a parcel well that's what security is for. And it is good to make sure the landscaping is of the kind that it is very clear that they're now crossing a boarder if you don't like using banlines. If they still walk over the boarder they know what they're doing so getting booted is just to be expected.
  21. I use marketplace search to find items of interest. If I find something I'll go in-world to shop because often there are more nice things for sale at the shop, which I didn't search for, but realise would be "neat" to have A proper shopping experience without having to use the sluggish inworld search. I switch between Firestorm and V2.
  22. The unfortunate thing is that the only information on the page where you pick your username is "You will use your username to login, so don't forget it.". It doesn't say this username will be used in-game. I'm sure it's tempting for some to just enter the username they use for many other things thinking they'll get an option to name their avatar at a later stage. Which they kind of get to do using screen names..
  23. I thought I'd done something wrong the first time I saw my name as Koltari Resident. Did a quick search and read all about this change. I don't mind I didn't get a last name, though it would've been neat. It's worse to see the "Resident" after my username everywhere. Now I'm just contemplatin wheter or not to give myself a display name with a last name but it's not really the same cause then I'd see Koltari *potental last name* Resident everytime I interact with something that replies to me? Ah well it's all details in the long run though.. I hope. I have managed to make friends but then I always avoid silly usernames. It would be good if there was some very visible notice while you register saying this user name may be used in-game. Och well just a little feedback from someone new:)
  24. I just want to add that this thread helped another new player out. Some awesome replies with alot of insight. Thanks!
