  1. I dont know, 2 services with hardly any alternatives that have a history of customer abuse and buggy software? LL and Paypay sound like perfect matches to me...

Just contact Autodesk and you'll know for sure what is and what is not allowed. To me it all sounds very clear though: if you didn't get an assignment to make SL objects, you're not allowed to. I'd also say if you want to build things for SL, try Blender. You'll get the most to-the-point advice and tips here too probably. The vast majority of Blender-SL builders are pure hobbyists, not professionals. If they can master the program, so can you. You're right. Just go with Blender until you're getting paid to use the professional software. It's more than you'll ever need for SL.

You're not going to find anything that even comes close to the big 3d software suites out there that is "easy". Try Maya, for example. See how easy that transition is for you. It's not Blender, really. It's just the nature of 3d modeling, texturing and rigging that is complicated and you're having to retrain yourself to use tools that are named differently and put in different places. Get the latest version of Blender and really put your nose to it and you'll find that you get used to it. There are also presets that can help easy the transition some.

  5. It's a great idea (I love those kinds of threads), but I'm afraid that as soon as it disappears from the front page, the thread will die. I guess that's the flaw of having a forum where threads don't bump. On topic, though, how on earth does that tank work? Does the rope swinging actually function? If so, take my money, please.
  6. Perhaps you meant to reply to the other guy. I am aware of this.
  7. Gunner Grun wrote: What this thread is about is if he could he would file the DMAC on his own without even knowing where the model came from or who the creator was. If he could. Nope. He was asking for info about it, suggesting that he wants to take the correct and informed course of action. What did he say that made you think anything else? My guess is that you're just tired of seeing this kind of thread -- My suggestion is just avoid them if that's the case.
  8. That's far from a complete hardware spec for your laptop. That's not even the name of a GPU. That's one of Intel's graphics architectures as far as I know. I'd say just try it; It won't cost you a penny to do so. The answer you will get from attempting to move around will be more informative than anything we have to say.

  10. Gunner Grun wrote: So whats your skin in this Game. Why is this effecting you or maybe you just like to harass merchants. And how do you know that the person selling it in SL isn't the creator of that model. With the new pro tools viewer were going to seeing a lot of professionals coming in world with there models. Sorry to double post, but I just have to ask: Are you really that naive, or are you one of those "creators" just ripping game assets straight into SL? Sure, there are assets on the marketplace that are well known brand names uploaded by their actual copyright holders, but there are many more who are not -- that's obviously what this thread is about.
  11. The best thing you can do, honestly, is to just ignore it and encourage others not to buy such crap. It angers me too, but I understand what the implications of "too strict" policing would mean. There is nothing LL can really do about it and there is nothing we can do about it as a whole either. We do -not- need stricter copyright laws. If anything, our laws are too strict. We already have the looming issue of a staggered culture that cannot progress because there are immutable claims on every idea and advancement with no hopes of expanding upon them. Okay, that's hyperbole, but still uncomfortably close our reality.
  12. I have always wondered what it was with this trend of idle animations where the avatar must be constantly swaying and gesticulating. I just don't get it. Who does that? It's like everyone wants to look like they are living a photoshoot. Sorry, that was off topic.
  13. You already got a response and that's great, but this really belonged in Wanted or In World Employment. If you want faster responses you should post this there, too.
  14. I only tell you this because you posted it in the wrong forum (Should have gone to wanted or in game employment): One of my lesser responsibilities as an IT guy is to make sure no important emails get caught up in our quarantine inbox; In doing so, I've had the pleasure of being entertained by more than my share of hilariously poor scam emails. Unfortunately for you, that's exactly how your post comes across. One of the many marks of a scam is a lot of unnecessary verbiage (such as buzz words) desperately trying to look legitimate, but without the grammatical chops to back it up. What you get are emails (or in this case, forum posts) filled with "big" words hand-in-hand with spelling and grammatical errors -- they seem like emails written by a child with a thesaurus. It doesn' t help that you have 1 post on the forum and yet are asking for a portfolio. It...just doesn't scream credible. Disclaimer: I have looked up your profile and it corroborates that you've been a SL member since 2007 and do indeed deal in child avatars (that is to say, you obviously role-play a child). Based on the evidence, I don't really believe you're trying to scam anyone. I am just letting you know that is how this thread has come across (to me). If you want to seem professional, you must edit your work or if English isn't your first language, ask someone to edit it for you. It would go a long way. Good Luck.
  15. Since the copyright issues are already established, I'll just add that you should always either stick to your guns ore change them universally. Don't put up a "no refunds" sign and then make an exception for one customer. Ever. You just create more complications for yourself that way. Like it was said earlier, you bending your own rules for the one customer wasn't rewarded by say, leaving a positive follow-up review, so you came up short either way.
  16. Try checking the stickied thread called "New Payment System Questions?" And prepare to be depressed.

  18. Well, based on those numbers this must be the most successful rollout that hasn't happened yet!
  19. Are you asking if it's possible to make a good centaur in SL? If so, the answer is probably, but it would be very experimental and you'd need a creator that was willing to spend a lot of time and effort doing everything from scratch. I mean everything. You'd need a Custom AO and all custom animations. If I really wanted one, I know how I'd approach making it, but I don't think it would be worth the effort until LL implemented some method of importing custom bone groups. So yeah, the question is how do you want it to look, are you willing to have no default clothes/skins fit you and to create all your own animations from scratch? You say price is of no concern, but you're asking for something that would be considered a lot of work even for several concurrent artists.
  20. You can be sure that I'll be updating to the latest version and start seeing your hard work. I'm currently weighting a custom mesh avatar so this should be good. Many thanks.
  21. It's odd. I hear that a lot, but Win8 on desktop works just fine. I wonder if it is the touch screen functionality that is failing?
  22. Just so that I undestand, what you are saying is that you cant use the texture changer script you have, but that doesn't mean that one couldn't be made that accomodates the new materials, correct? In that case, it's more a matter of initial effort to accomodate the change rather than a permanent drawback.
  23. I don't know what kind of rig you run at home, but last I checked, better is worse. All I need is a laptop from 10 years ago to barely run SL on the lowest settings with no one around me. You kids nowadays, I mean to tell ya.
  24. No offence meant to anyone, but the people willing to drop the money required to purchase an alienware machine (or mac for that matter) tend to be the types who just want something that works well out of the box and they more or less never have to think about it again. That does not describe a Linux user. Also, I'm a little confused; In one sentence you said, "Vista was indeed a rather crappy Windows version [, however] it didn't have any probs running SL and can be ruled out as the problem..." Yet, in the very next sentence you said, "It may be the problematic part in your setup..." So...Vista isn't the problem but it might be the problem? My brain! Hehe -- asides from that, I agree with your suggestions.
