  1. The issues of nonsense names with numbers and so on is a serious one, made worse by many names being taken and locked off in the early days. Names rated highest on a search and lost of people tool them and made the avatars in to advertising tools. Many people just made characters to reserve names and once taken, those names are permanently gone. So, that leaves a steadily more limited pool of names to create from, to the point where nonsense names are the only way to go. As to the surname issue, it really sucks. Especially as new users have to use several names, including resident. When i pay rent, i pay it as "chronometria resident" and i show up like that on club competition boards and on numerous automated things or responses. Display names can be worthless if nobody can see them. Searches can be a mess too due to this nonsense of a system.
  2. I hate banlines. I went and had a look at land sales and its often the same, banlines in every direction and sometimes you cant get out as they wall you in!
  3. For a short time i got that as well, it seems to trigger on items that are for sale, i found. I went to check the prims of a chest and it came up with "linked prim sets" and all sorts of nonsense numbers.
  4. If you are still looking for the answer its 45 days from the upgrade. I got mine the other day and it cheered me up. My bugbear on searches is marketplace. This is hampered by a good many vendors who can't spell or who use the wrong keywords.
  5. Good work with this discovery, it let me remove three prims that i couldnt delete after the inventory server crash. Wearing them worked a treat, thankyou!
  6. I agree that the recent update has been a problem. Lots of incidents now of the "half grey" person where the viewer just stops downloading the textures. Alarmingly, i was at a party yesterday and everyone reported the same grey things, ie the poor dancer's head which everyone saw as grey, apparently regardless of which viewer they used. Previous to the update, things seemed very good and people commented on that, but now its back to badness.
  7. This one puzzled me too till someone explained to me that it was a viewer limitation. As has been said by posters above, its the viewers way of showing that the people are in fact very, very high above you, usually over 3000 ft high, way higher than most skyboxes.
  8. Well, the problem is that they are providing as much "city feeling" as a whole load of 2d cardboard cutouts. May as well draw green dots on your map with a marker and get the same feeling.....they arent really people at their keyboards.
  9. Would be interested in recieving a notecard or i/m with further details please.
  10. I would say we do have resident as a last name. Competition boards, automated greeters, rent boxes and a great many other things list that as our second name or use it when addressing us. I am in two minds as to how to treat it. At first i hated it, but now i`m in the mood to defend it. After all, it may suck, but its the only second name we have and it confers a sort of identity, just as the older second names confer one on the "old timers". As display names are only visible to some, i would welcome the chance to have a proper second name as everyone else once had. It's bad enough that my premium stipend is less than everyone elses because i`m newer, but the no surname thing just makes me feel like more of a stranger, when really we should all be equal as citizens.
  11. I was out sailing with Pussycat Catnip a while back, when we first noticed the legion of undersea idlers. I was testing out my new submarine and we went looking for sunken wrecks and public art items, as well as other undersea mysteries (including the abandoned car that had apparently been down there 5 years). It's very suspicious and pretty bizarre. We found lots of them, all over the place, all unresponsive. If this "tiny empires" thing is doing it, then someone really needs to take the matter up with them.
  12. True, i hope this improvement is an official thing and not just random. I was really having issues with my chat messages being shuffled like cards and placed into the conversation at random. The results were often like this: Sam: Hey i love that new x men film! Random guy: Lols, i love eating kittens! Me: Yeah i love it too! Me: Hey Sam, have you been to see the X men film yet?
  13. Ok, seem to have solved my own problem, but may be useful if it hits anyone else. I used the word "popup" and figured hey, maybe the browser changed somehow to view the links as creating popups and was somhow now banning them. This seems to be the case. I ticked the "enable media popups" and the problem seems to be resolved. It is odd that i did *not* need this box ticked yesterday, but today viewer 2 or whatever thinks it is needed. Right, i`m off to go shopping.
  14. *Edit* now fixed (see second post). Strange bug blindsided me and i`d be grateful for suggestions on it. My search in viewer 2 went strange today. I was searching for a shop, which it found, i clicked the link and......nothing happened. No info window and thus no teleport button. Usually i would get a "search" temporary sidebar page pop up that i could minimise if i wished, but instead it acted as if it was loading, even said "done" and didnt "popup" or even appear in the background. Needless to say, i can now not visit any place i dont have a landmark for and the same goes for any other sort of search i do, such as people. I have tried a flash update, as one came through today. I flipped over to Phoenix and the problem did not occur with that viewer, though it uses a different search. Cleared cache a few times....restarts, nothing seems to fix it. Any help welcome.
  15. I dont mind waiting for it to load textures. The problem is when it "gives up" half way through and just stops loading the ones it has not done yet. Slow would be better than never.....and sometimes it chooses never.
  16. If i had an item and the creator was like that to me, then i`d not want to be using it, personally.
  17. Innula Zenovka very kindly put some together for me and i gave her some of my crazy vehicle designs in return. I advised her to pop them on the marketplace as there is nothing else there like them.
  18. That would be good but i cant even find a static tread texture.
  19. Try as i might, i have scoured marketplace and the SL world as best i can and it seems that getting an animated texture for tank or caterpillar tracks is like trying to find diamonds in my back garden.....using a spoon. Why is it that this is the case, when bulldozers, tanks, half tracks and so on are relatively common vehicles? I would appreciate any pointers as to where i could locate these, i`m happy to purchase the animated texture.....i just need some serious help in finding it. Love and light - Chrono
  20. Being a Steampunk fan means getting to make wierd and wacky vehicles. It also means sneaking out at night and abducting cows and invading the odd planet or two.
  21. When i installed it, i noticed the same, though it may just be in high prim areas. It's always hard to know as it resets all the visual settings, but that would likely indicate that there was some sort of graphical change.
  22. Wow, this sounds like the job for me! I shall be in touch in world!
