The project will Take a while Not so much the painting ( I plan to do them during a manic phase.......   :matte-motes-big-grin: 10 mins tops.....lol)

Its getting the pics of avatars that is taking so long. So spread the word my friend and thanks so much for your support.

  5. The avatar Project is a collaborative effort between TAMI Second Life and the founders of TAMI Real Life. The project involves painting the images of 300 avatars from second life and producing them on a large canvas that can be exhibited in the real world. The ‘brains’ behind this effort is the founder of both organisations, Danny Noyes. In a rare look at his personal side Danny took me through a maze of ideas and projects that he says stems from the creative side of Bipolar.

“The idea behind this project is to highlight two things. Firstly to shine another spotlight on Bipolar and mental health in general and secondly, to espouse the virtues of a virtual life. Since being diagnosed last year I returned to second life hoping to find away to further disappear from reality. Instead, I have found the opposite. Whether you call this a game or a platform, or a piece of toast for all I care, the reality is ...it does help.”

Asked to explain further Danny went on to tell me about the mental health support groups in second life. “Never before has that cliché been so true, We are not alone. In second life that’s remarkably accurate, you are never alone. I have heard people refer to the vacant areas of land and no people in shopping malls etc, but, if you belong to any number of groups you can always find someone on line to talk to, or conversely, to help out.”

The project requires 300 images of avatars to be painted in real life and produced for exhibition. If you would like to be involved please leave an image of yourself on a notecard and deliver it to:

  7. Chaos I run a non-Profit organization and have a presence her in SL. I have The Art of Mental Illness art gallery and its for folks with mental illness who are artistic, in all forms, a place to exhibit and sell their work at no cost to them at all. We do not charge commission and if the would like a web presence we even set that up and host it at no cost. Today I found out after making enquiries to Lindens that they no longer provide discounted region set up fees or monthly fees for Educational Institutions or Non Profit organizations. Very disappointing to say the least. I saw this post an was wondering If you have considered donating the region to , NPOs or Educational Institute Instead of just abandoning it. In some way you would still have a presence and those institutions, like mine would certainly benefit. Im just going on my limited knowledge of region transfers so I could be way off and the NPO could still get wacked with the same fees as if it was a new region purchase. I would be interested in your thoughts on this and indeed any one else.

  8. Jazen I didn't think I was artistic either until one day I went to an art gallery (in real life) and saw two naked people male and female standing back to back...and they called that art.

Well, that changed my whole thinking. Art is subjective I realized. its a personal thing not only to the artist but the viewer. That exhibition was a brilliant piece of art to some people, including the gallery owner obviously, but to me it was embarrassing. And not what Id call art at all. In fact my wife and I went home and became artists all night but that's another story... My point is I discovered with art you cant go wrong.

What you think is crap others will think sensational, brilliant whilst you scratch your head and think these people are crazy. ( some mean feat coming from a guy with a mental illness..)  I now have improved my photographic technical skills and my painting technical skills and that's something you can do over time.  But my original passion and desire and imagination have always fired me up and continues to do so.

You already have the fundamentals... the desire to create, the willingness to learn...so experiment in RL with RL stuff then bring them into SL. I run a free gallery in SL now for folks who are artistic and have mental health issues. No perceived lack of ability has stopped them.... I bet it wont stop you.

    Well Thats it!

    Thats Noyes!

  10. T A M I, The Art of Mental Illness, is an art gallery in development, being established for the exhibition of all forms of art by people who deal with mental illness daily.
The gallery is managed by founder and curator, Danny Noyes, whose real life persona has suffered with Bipolar Affective Disorder with Suicidal Ideation for over a decade. Being a resident of Second Life since 2006, I have become aware of the value that this place can bring, in gathering people from all over the world with like minds, ......even if they can be, a little unstable at times .
My real life persona has found that people with such conditions have talents that so often go unrecognised. Sometimes, because of the stigma and misunderstanding these diseases have within our communities, others, because of the extremely poor self esteem or outrageously high expectations. Such is the manner of some disorders.
Using second life and creating a supportive community around this gallery, will I’m sure, build an understanding, that all of us in the mental health community, carers and affected, should look forward too .This Gallery then is established with this objective. To provide an outlet within second life to exhibit, discuss and support, residents with artistic passion who suffer with mental health issues .To exhibit all forms of the arts at no cost to the artist .To only have original work that may be sold directly through the artist .To encourage artists to provide links and information to their real world art for proper exposure. To seek support from benefactors to improve the real life exposure of the artists with mental health issues .The Art of Mental Illness – Art gallery Is for all of us who feel safe in Second Life living with these wretched conditions. For more information please visit the info desk at the gallery.
Search for T.A.M.I - The Art of Mental Illness, in world. at the gallery you can pick up our magazine that has more detail of what we hope to achieve. TAMI is a non profit organisation and does not take commissions or any funds from contributing artists. All moneys remain with the artist. If you could join the group that would be helpful too....
