  3. I really don't know scripting but I am thinking you also need to put the named animations and sounds into Contents of  the sword as well.

I see sound and animation names between the  " " and that usually means you have to have the animations and/or sounds in Contents along with the script  as the script searches for those to use.

I have made vehicles where I have replaced the animation name between the " " in the script with the animation I wanted to use (I also put animation in the contents with the script) and it has worked just fine, so I assume this is the same case.

Keep in mind the name between the  " " has to be exactly the name of the animation you are using. Easiest way to make sure you got it right is to copy the animation name from Properties and paste into the script.

  5. I do all my animations in Blender these days but same holds true... I never use frame 1. On Frame 2 I move all the parts to set them if I do not want the SL default animations to override those bits. Just move it a fraction and that does the trick. Another thing I do for animations is copy Frame 2 to the last frame of the animation and it runs a lot smoother through.

If you are just doing a pose on one frame and don't want any of the default stuff to bleed through, you need to move everything a tiny bit for frame 2. I have done animations playing hand instruments such as a hand shaker that I allowed all the default animations to continue to play other than the hand and arm doing the shaking so the avatar shifts through the default stand positions as it plays, though usually I do my own shifting of the avatar since the default poses tend to be so icky.

  6. William Gibson's Neuromancer is a good one.

Maybe not so much into the virtual world but making use of it as part of your body... check out Peter F. Hamilton's  Pandora's Star or the followup to that Judas Unchained. First one took me a bit to get into but once it got going was a very good read. I understand these are only two books in his Commonwealth Universe series. I plan to look the rest up and give them a read.

I really loved Tad Williams Otherland series. Again some bits were on the long side but once it got going, it got really good.

  7. Ditto what Dora said.  Troupe I perform with ( ~D R U M~ ) makes their own instruments and we looked for suitable animations but those who made the very few we thought were of the quality we wanted and suitable (only 2 sort of met our interest) refused to sell them to us so I decided to look into making our own and stumbled into this site  http://tentacolor.com/sl-animation-for-blender-newbs/  It did take a while to learn what to do and I still learn every time I work with it, but we are producing custom animations to our instrument sets that get better and better. It is a learning curve but oh, so worth putting the time and effort in to get the results. Every time I work on a new set, I learn more and more. Eventually I will go back and redo my early work and I am always on the lookout for more information on using Blender animations and applying what I have learned. Performing with what I made and seeing the audiences enjoy what we are doing makes all the hard work worth it.
