  1. It's nothing but gambling and it's shady as anything to your customers. If I want something in blue I should be able to buy it in blue, not have to give you 8000 lindens to get the one that I want.

Plus they were done to death. It's like one person gets an idea in SL and 9 million people ape it, and it's not like they are *improving* on the original idea or anything, which is different, but nope, just aping it.

Plus creators are feeling compelled to spend their valuable time creating things to stuff these gambling boxes with, for cheap*ss people hoping to get something for next to nothing. I would far rather pay the creator the full, fair price of it. If blue costs more, then fine, charge me more for the blue. But I feel somewhat sickened seeing their time being demeaned with gatcha giveaways.

With luck, this will inspire some new innovative business ideas that are fairer to customers and to creators.

  2. For anyone who has this video card, is Second Life working successfully for you?

[I get that it's probably overkill, and I get that SL will almost certainly never have ray tracing, I just want to know if it works -- I saw one or two random reports of crashing though the users in the end wasn't sure if it were the RTX video card or not causing it.]

If anyone wants to suggest another current high-end NVIDIA card, I'm all ears. Price isn't that much a problem, BUT it must be absolutely silent (I have tinnitus and fan noise makes my ears buzz more.) I an ordering a new custom-built computer that I want to last me for at least 3 years.

Why do people hate TMP? Because the alpha hud was painful, the StyleMode hud to apply skins etc. wasn't all that great either (slow!), their customer service wasn't what you'd call award-winning and their prices are sky high. There's a new male and female body named Legacy for L$ 5000 but there's also an update of the Classic body. Sadly they are charging previous customers L$ 2500 for that upgrade. I can't think of any other mesh body creator that doesn't offer free updates. Apart from that I still actually like the body and the hud has improved a lot though there are some issues still. I have just finished a rather long blog post about it.

    What's Eating TMP XLIX blog.jpg

Thanks for taking the time to do this write-up Billy -- amazing quality of writing as usual on your blog -- I'd expect no less!

So TMP is trying to rise from the dead, eh?. After years of arrogant, supercilious, downright abusive customer service from TMP,  my inclination is to try to beat this one back into the grave with a wooden stake.  Anyone gives them more of their Lindens is like someone going back to an ex who beats and steals from them.

  4. I remember a few years ago they froze editing on the wiki (I forget the reason why.) So I stopped bothering to go there to record stuff.

I just went today, found a script whose help needed a bit more added to it, but found that editing is still unavailable to us. I checked reason changes, https://wiki.secondlife.com/w/index.php?title=Special:RecentChanges&days=30&from=&limit=500  and all I'm seeing is blank user pages being created and some edits by Lindens.

Just want to confirm that it's still frozen after these several years.

  5. I have two physical drives in my desktop. C and D, they are actually separate physical drives.  Windows and programmes are installed on C. D is for data.

Someone has suggested that if I installed Firestorm on drive D, the non-system disk, that this problem would go away. Any idea if this is so?

This constant loss of password is a real pain in the butt for me as I need many alts for my biz / work in SL.  I understand the reasoning from reading above but that doesn't mean I have to like it . I have a million other pieces of software I use on a daily basis, and this is the only one that loses all passwords when a Windows update occurs. Heck, my Chrome browser remembers and retains all my SL passwords for the secondlife.com site, which have even travelled with me cached in the browser to a new computer when I've upgraded to new computers.

    Hi @Dakota Linden

A few merchants have been discussing, and have seen the fantastic news re SL turning 15 and marketplace changes will be afoot for long awaited features.

Would you be open to consider before entering into development phase, a user requirement phase with a short survey that merchants can respond to define what are the top 3 things they would love to see from the marketplace.  You could include a google survey or whatever format - but having this sort of intel would help us merchants have a "voice" that may be wider that forums which has a small posting group of merchants into the wider social media groups we use (e.g. Facebook).

Examples I know we talk about a lot

Ability to have more than one marketplace storefront per avatar

Ability to have demo's listed with the main product etc

Ability to have different colors in one listing with the main product etc

Customer being able to get redeliveries for copy items

(I am sure you have a long list but to give you an idea).

If any other merchants read this - can you post below you would like a survey as Dakota might then be able to see this is a wide spread ask versus just random old me haha!

I also understand some things just may not be possible (so my list above isn't a requirement just some ideas).

I have linked to this post on FB so other merchants see too.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Inworld vendors tied to MP listings so we wouldn't have to maintain a separate inworld vending system, and repeat all the work we have already done on MP,  which eats up days and days of your life that you'll never get back.

Ability to upload multiple images at once.

Ability to set default profit sharing so wouldn't have to redo it every single time for every single listing (with ability to change it as needed for the odd separate listing.)

Ability to have more than one marketplace storefront per avatar.

Ability to have LM for inworld store stored in one central place, say your store profile, -- so that as you move store in world, you don't have to give up a week of your life and update the SLurl on 3,000 items. (which of course you never do, so 5 years later online customers are using MP SLurls to try to TP to sims that no longer exist.)

Customer being able to get redeliveries for copy items.

In my opinion, I think people hate it because the TMP Male Body is very hunky in terms of its body appearance. "

Oh really, wow! At the time, one of the reasons I agreed to TMP is because it was one of the least hunky, back then anyway!

But, from the start, their customer service was beyond arrogant, superior, smug, condescending, .. need more words here.... (and I am always unfailingly polite at least at first). So to this day, I actively recommend to everyone to not buy TMP. I bend over backwards for my customers. TMP was like, oh thank you for the 14k, who the hell are you?

  9. Why are more and more clothing designers boycotting TMP? There seems to be a hate on for them growing......

I have a TMP mesh body -- should I start looking for a new one from someone else; will I be stranded with no choice of clothes?

  10. Thanks for help, all. Genuinely helped guide me in making my choices towards a mid-cost range computer. I'm on it now, and it's truly whisper quiet. Love it. Ended up with:

    • ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB DDR,
    • Intel Core i7 7700 Kaby Lake,
    • 16 GIG ram,
    • SSD drive for program files,
    • SATA drive for data,
    • 600 Watts True Power,
    • Slince ATX Tower with Glass side.

I know I could have spent more, could have spent less, but this should see me through for a few years.

Now I just gotta figure out how to slow things down... I hit tap to fly a couple metres, and next thing I know I'm 4 sims over, haha.xD

Yes, you did. My question was a follow-up to your subsequent discussion / opinion of CPUs after that:

"i5s are dead meat by now as quad core CPUs are beginning to rot. Look at "Battlefield 1" multiplayer benchmarks and see the symptoms, especially when focussing on the minimum FPS they may generate. ;There is one exception, the i7 7700k ... quad core, capable of hyperthreading, highest out of the box single core speed ... overall, probably your best choice for Photoshop as of now."

And I thank you for that. I used it as a kick-off point for some searching and reading on what's been happening with AMD the past few years.

iWe might see further price drops for the Ryzen 50 1600, which is already dropping... Intel has never been known to reduce their prices, even for older hardware.

Is there an AMD CPU you'd recommend looking at?

I'm happy with my 1060 6GB. Later this year I may jump up to the 1080.

The card looks good Nalates. Which one did you get? asus, msi, evga or geforce? And would you get the same again?

I see now the MSI gaming at least advertises itself as silent. How noisy are you finding your video card? With my particular form of tinnitus, the ear ringing increases in response to stuff like noisy fans (and fish tank pumps, etc) to match that noise.

  14. Thanks for your suggestion Lilith, sadly looks like access is restricted as newegg is insisting I create an account to view it. Thanks anyway! AMD has hated me ever since it was called ATI still, so I'll personally avoid it.

Gotcha, Qie. Do you have any suggestions for a 2017 mid-range computer config good for SL? What are you running on; are you happy with it; what would you change?

  15. Looking for spec suggestions on a good mid-range Windows computer for SL. Not budget, and not thousands and thousands of dollars. I'll have it built for me.

I have a biz in SL and so don't want lag making me spend 3 hours to do some work which could otherwise be done in 1 hour. I'm also a heavy photoshop user and graphics handler for other work outside SL.

I'd like to stick to NVIDIA video cards. Ever since AMD was called ATI and still located back in Toronto, I've had nothing but bad luck with those cards, so I have no stomach for them. Happy for those who have had good luck and like them.

Bonus if the system is potentially Sansar ready (even though we have no idea what that will be, and even though this forum is SL,I know....) [ Even so, apparently they are making sure that your SL name is reserved for you in Sansar. https://modemworld.me/lab-chat-3-project-sansar/#id  ]

I used to be a tech support person in another life so I can understand BIG WORDS but I'm VERY rusty now with what's out there as my focus has shifted to programming. Qie Niangao last summer posted some starting suggestions. Any other opinions????

Video Card    NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD R9 290 equivalent or greater
CPU    Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
    Memory    8GB+ RAM
Video Output    Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
USB Ports    3x USB 3.0 ports plus 1x USB 2.0 port
OS    Windows 7 SP1 64 bit or newer

Looks like the 970 would MORE than cover Sansar, according to the Lindens  "The Geforce 970+ is not our minimum spec, that is and Oculus and Vive minimum spec for VR. For just using Sansar on a regular PC or desktop, we’re not going to require that high of a spec" ( https://modemworld.me/lab-chat-3-project-sansar/#graphics )

so I guess I can focus on a good mid-range computer for SL.

OH, and the top top priority? Life has blessed me in the past few years with tinnitus. So a silent video card fan is a must, as noises aggravate the ear ringing.

  16.  2GB vs 4GB Video Cards for Second Life ?

All things being equal -- assume great bandwidth, a great CPU, great power supply available. 64 bit system, great clocked speed on the video card in question you are looking at ..... I know there are a million factors, like a racing car, but just wanted to look at one, though I know someone will tell me I can't. lol. But here's my question:

If you pay 40 extra bucks to get an extra 2 GB memory on a video card, versus the same darn card in every way for 40 bucks less with only 2 GB memory (and like I said, with everything else about the machine being assumed great and the card assumed the same), will Second Life take advantage of that extra 2 GB or not be able to ?

I know all about the other factors so am really not looking for a discussion on those, though I'm sure it will end up that way anyway lol. Just wanted opinions strictly on the 2 GB vs 4 GB.

    Does anyone know?

  17. Just whipping in to moan about one of my pet peeves about MP -- adjusting revenue distributions continues to be a big pain in the buttinsky! Because you can't just simply edit, you have to delete and recreate the whole d*mn things, lol.

Okay turning my moan off, just wanted to register it in case anyone else feels the same way.

  18. First noticed the issue with some sequences from some animators in the spring. Filed them away for the summer break from work. In meantime have cleared cache, changed SL browsers, etc. Now back to work. The jumps are occuring still with the sequence sets in question; and, are now noticeable in newly-licenced (this fall) sets from one or two other animators.

Have tested in several sims, with several AV's and got other people to watch and explain what they say on their computers in other computers. The jumps occur even in areas where there are few objects around.

The hopping and jumping only ceases after you have gone through the set of animations once. They will stay smooth, until you clear your cache, then you see them jump and hop again until you have gone through them again.

Will they "age" out of the cache? That I have failed to notice, as in, having paid attention to that if it happens -- am just getting back into the fall groove of work.

Thanks for your help all, I think I have a better understanding -- that it's the 60 second animations, if I'm understanding that correctly.
