I tended to keep a tight zoom on my avatar and I've noticed recently that when I zoom, it tends to zoom in and DOWN, making it impossible to see straight if you're walking around unless your camera is further back or in mouselook. I used to be able to just scroll it forward and keep a third person perspective just fine but now when I zoom in it's giving me the ability to admire the floor...and that's about it. Is this a new SL "feature" or do you have a way to reset your camera and I did it without realizing?
