  1. Also check how well your laptop itself is performing. SL can be very hard on laptops. I usually access SL via laptops also and have gone through several since I've been in SL. Running SL on them, I think, caused them to expire much faster than normal For example, my past laptop had a heat fan fail, which made it nearly impossible to run SL and I had to have the fan replaced twice. Have you tried other viewers? I use Singularity sometimes to give my laptop a break. You may also want to look into getting a laptop cooling pad to keep your machine from getting too hot, since SL is graphically intense and can cause overheating and other problems with extended use (true for desktops too, but laptops just are not as efficient at cooling themselves off as a desktop usually. A decent cooling pad costs between $20-40.
  2. It may be any of the things that Rolig suggested, but I recently had the same problem when I upgraded my Firestorm viewer to the most recent viewer...and I got the same message you encountered. First I verified my Internet was working and that Second Life was ok. It was...so next I tried different viewers and they also didn't work. I read on the Firestorm website that they recommend doing a clean install. From their blog: IMPORTANT: Because of the many skin and settings changes/improvements/adjustments we’ve made it is especially important that you perform a clean install of this build. I followed the directions for a clean install and then I was able to login and use SL again. I'm not sure what viewer you're using, but maybe look into also doing a clean install for whatever viewer you are using. Maybe take a look at the clean install instructions for that viewer if they have them, because the Firestorm page included useful information about preserving contact sets and information about deleting cache files. One other idea, if you have an alt, see if the alt can log on or create an alt. At times I've had one avi get ghosted and stuck in SL so I would not be able to login but alts could. Good luck! Hope you get it sorted out as I know how frustrtating something like this can be.
  3. Yes I agree Marigold. These organizations need to make it easy to opt out. I've found one page that advises muting a specific resident, yet when I search for that resident in SL that avi no longer seems to exist. I am starting to write to any service I find asking how to opt out without chasing bots down on my land. If I hear anything back, I'll post again.
  4. I prefer to where shoes or boots. My issue with bare feet and hand attachments is that I hate the color matching to my skins. There's nothing worse than mismatched feet imo. This also happens with the heels that have the flesh parts to them. The best hud I've seen recently is from Gos (easy match hud), where you can match skin already in their dtabase and they have many popular ones already listed). I have sen a good alternative to using the bare feet: use an animation with your "normal" avatar feet if you want to stand on tippy toe (talk about an unnatural stance, but hey it's SL) and then use nail polish. It's neat to see some of the definition in the feet attachments, but I also think it's a very non-essential purchase for me...although I do confess I broke down and bought a pair just to try them, but never use them.
  5. It's true there is no precise number that correlates to bra size because there are other factors that affect how big or small you would look. Skin was previously mentioned, but also shape. It is possible that your avatar could have a larger breast size on the slider and still look like a C cup because the body shape is thin with very low body fat. While there is no magic number I found that around 58 tends to look like a C for most shapes with a 5% body fat, so I would start at 58 and then see if you like how that looks. If it looks too big to you, try sliding it down. If it looks to small, you can increase it up. Also, don't forget that you can adjust the breast buoyancy as well as the size, this is under the size in the shape menu and can also alter the appearance/size. Happy editing!
  6. Hi, I would also suggest Tameless and also you could try Catwa and Lelutka. Tameless is really good and has some cute out of control hair that is not too expensive. I've also found Catwa has some hair that tends to look like it's a bit wild. One other place that comes to mind is Red(Mint). Red(Mint) hair doesn't look exactly like what you have in the pic, but it's edgy and very well done and some (especially the older styles), might be more what you're looking for too. Plus I think Red(Mint) has really awesome colors. Lelutka also has some nice styles, going from more traditional to really curly and wild. Red(Mint): https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/rM-Hair-No11-F-b-l-a-c-k-s/2450550 Catwa: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/CaTwA-EmmaBlack-White/3319211 Lelutka: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/LeLutka-MOSS-hairDEMO/2577006 The older styles for Red(Mint) are particularly nice if you can't see mesh properly. If you can see mesh, then the newer styles might work also. Best, Teagan
  7. I'll update my own post a bit to say that I've found a couple (probably there are more) websites related to panoramic views of SL for mapping or promoting businesses. One site says that: "Landowners with privacy concerns can set their region to private or opt out using a button that is on the bots. The application is free to use. Each request takes 5-10 minutes to process. See some of the below samples of the Peek360 service." This is interesting because the bots are so fast that I've not been able to tp to them in time before they've left...and where would this button be located? Now I have to chase bots and looks for buttons to stop them? These companies/initiatives should really ask before invading sims all over sl. Thanks for the suggestion to update the covenant, I have done so.
  8. wow so they can send to a specific place. how stalkerish
  9. Hi. Prim bonus is one area many people mistakenly think increases the overall number of prims available on a sim. If it's a full sim, you still have 15K prims available. I use a bonus prim of 1.1 on my island. The way that I know how many prims are left is simple. I have areas of land that are not rented all set to the same management group. Because they are owned by the same group, I get a collected prim amount for multiples parcels. Therefore, I know that at this time I have a little over 4000 prims that are not being used, so I can subtract 15K-4K to determine how many are being used. On an individual parcel, you can look under about land to see how many are on use on that parcel, then subtract that from how many you are given to determine how many are left. Best, Teagan Tunwarm
  10. Dear all, I have been having an issue with bots coming to my estate. Many of the bots I observe are coming into the sim in specific spots and then appear to be taking pictures (standing in one spot, turning slightly, stopping, turning, again, stopping, turning again, and so on). When they complete the picture they tp out. So, a few questions: -One, what are these bots doing? Are they taking pictures or for what other purpose? -Two, how can I determine who is sending them? I view it as harassment and have been ARing them as renters in my sim value privacy and here comes these bots taking pictures! -Three, how can I stop them? When I look on the profile of these bots, on their web feeds I see many others commenting that these are bots, and that they are AR'd and banned on estate tools. I have tried to do the same thing, but this is not adequate since it just bans the bots that I've seen in the sim...and more come later on. I am hesitant to turn on "Payment info" required because it will cause problems for some current renters/alts/guests of renters. What I would LOVE is some solution that is eloquent, such as a way to let renters add people to the estate tools allowed list, without giving them access to estate tools. So in summary besides the questions I listed above, I guess I need to know have others figured out a solution? Am I the only one that is really annoyed by this or do others find it bothersome? If you've figured out a solution, I would love to hear from you. Best, Teagan Tunwarm
  11. I had a similar thing happen to me, with the twist that the estate owner had not paid his tiers for months, but had promised to sell the island and promised to put in a ticket. Whether he put int he ticket or not, I am not sure. Eventually it became clear that the ticket was not going through because he was not willing or able to pay the past tier that would have been necessary to unban his account. As a result, even though I offered to buy the sim from LL, they chose to take it down, the first time with many of my objects on it. I had to put in a ticket to have it bought back up. My advice is if your friend wants control of the island, buy them used from a trusted individual. If you rely on a landlord and rent from them, then there is always a chance you may get into that bind if something goes wrong and LL doesn't receive payment and they're essentially AWOL. I considered renting an island for a long time. There are a lot of pros to doing so. The fact that you are not the estate owner is a con, but also a plus if something were ever to happen to your friend and she would be unable to pay. I suggest listing out the pros and cons to both renting and owning and island. Both come with their own set of risks. I also suggest buying estates used. You can get them usually for $300 or less US, just make sure the seller is legit and do the ticket transfer and exchange of Linden through the ticketing process (never pay the resident direct), that way if the deal falls through your friend doesn't lose money. 12. Hi all, I posted this originally in Answers because I thought I needed an answer, but upon a helpful comment it was suggested that I post into the forums instead. Since I saw this thread has been created about bots already, I'm wondering if any body else has a similiar interest in a problem I am having lately. I am looking for suggestions on how to deal with what has been an occasional hassle to a real nuisance this month. In the past few days I've had a string of bots coming into my private residential SIM. One bot left a lot of objects in the sim that sent SIM-wide spam, another was spamming invites, the others I'm not sure their purpose, only that if you look at the web feed for them you can see a string of comments like "you're a bot", "you're banned you bot!!" and so on. It seems to me that if private estate owners can pick up on who the bots are, can't there be some estate option to ban a bot? When you create an avi, you're supposed to identify if it's a bot. I'm sure many don't do this, then to me if they created a bot but chose not to acknowledge it, isn't that a violation of TOS? More importantly, if us humble estate owners can identify these bots and ban them one by one, is there not some more effective way of weeding them on the estate tools? Estate owners have options to block no payment or age verified accounts. Under the current system, I would have to require my renters to all be age/payment verified, which kind of is the exact opposite of why private estates are good. Not everybody wants payment info on file with LL for whatever reason. I don't want to steer this down the whole path of ban all bots, because I'm sure there are legitimate reasons for them, even if I'm not really seeing them at the moment. What I would really like to see is some way for region owners to be able to ban self identified bots on the estate tool level, and if a bot has not identified as a bot with LL, then I would like LL to quarantine that bot so that it can't travel out of quarantine until it's identified itself correctly as a bot with LL. If others have suggestions I haven't thought of, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks in advance, Teagan Tunwarm P.S. And I'm not offering up my island as quarantine space. lol.

  14. There seems to be a problem related to the Intel HD Graphics 3000 on Macs and rigged mesh. I am experiencing the very same issue. Updating the driver didn't help. I think this is a a graphics issue...but I would like to know if anybody has figured out a solution to this problem. I can view rezzed mesh, like a mesh house for example, but a rigged mesh does not display correctly. I do not believe your problems are related to glitches in SL. I suspect this is a graphics compatibility issue with the Macs that are running these Intel graphics card...would be great if this could be fixed since my Mac has the same graphics card and is less than a year old....I really don't want to buy a whole new computer just to run SL in order to see mesh hair and the like.
