  1. in Windows I remember there is a 'game mode' in the settings - I cannot recall the exact thing, but I had a newer system and was having alot the same issues and it turned out to be something to do with game mode settings. It is a bit fuzzy for me but I seem to remember also i had to turn off (I think) Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling. In any case, sometimes in crowded sims, SL still does the stutter and I can visually see it in the task manager monitoring the GPU graph

If you are seeing this recording, at least in OBS, you can monitor to see if you are getting rendering lag or encoding lag. Lately, for some reason, I been getting at random times extreme encoding lag even though nothing has changed in my hardware, software or settings. I also use the FPS limiter in FS set to 32

  2. I can remember even after having had a verified paypal account for over a decade, when Tillia came around I had to get get 're verified' which included among other things, dancing on one leg in a pink sock while the other was wearing blue, naming each of my 10 toes and the reason I chose those names, identifying 100 different species of birds along with naming the last 200 transactions on Linden, the exact amount and the reason for them.  Sure would hate to go through all that all over again!

Lower draw distance, increase LOD (usually Object in graphics settings). Best way for higher image quality with better performance. And disable MSAA. It kills my performance when there's alpha masked textures, like plants.

Draw distance is huge, look at this area of a circle calculator

    https://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/circle-area.html

Notice how area goes from 804 at 32m view distance to 3216 at 64m view distance. That area is all filled with stuff your computer needs to render, download, etc. The less area your computer has to render stuff, the less it has to render (most of the time, there are exceptions) so the better it's going to run.

OK I should clarify. I am looking at this from the perspective of creating video in world. Lowering draw distance is not always an option, Turning off Dynamic Draw helps keeps things rezzed but it can really degrade performance. And MSAA - Im not even sure that is.

  4. all these devs in the comments here melting my brain with technical explanations. :) Are there any good debug setting we can set to increase visual performance? I remember back in the old days there was settings like MeshTriangles or something and Triangle-something, damn i can't remember them now, but is there anything someone with a 'powerful enough' computer can do to, when it comes to tweaking debug settings, to improve visual performance?

  5. and of course, in the 'old days' - pre 2021, LS could be a little side hustle, money for gas, some groceries , but now - anything more than 600 bucks, in the USA, you get in a for instance, PayPal account, is reported to the IRS - so now, those measly scraps of Lindens you did get, you now get the pleasure of reporting it and potentially owing taxes on it!

  6. you can use the alt + mouse to move the camera and you some cam smoothing (assuming you are on Firestorm) You can also use (with some cam smoothing) alt + arrow keys, that will give you rotate left/right/up/down and while holding alt key press the ctrl key the up/down arrow keys will now give you a tilt up/down. Note this also works holding down these keys and moving your mouse. Finally you have pan left/right/up/down if you hold down the shift+ctrl+alt and use the arrow keys - but - the cam smoothing does not work when panning (sure wish it did!) but for basic movements while filming you can get great results just using alt, alt + ctrl, arrow keys and cam smoothing or the same alt, alt+ ctrl plus cam smoothing and the mouse. Takes a little practice to get all that coordinated

  7. obviously doing anything web related or SL related SRGB is what you want. However, I have a nice older Dell monitor and switched to a BenQ 100% sRGB monitor, I also do alot of video color grading of SL footage. For me , absolutely zero difference. And of course, keep in mind almost all users are looking at web material - or SL, using a regular monitor, laptop or maybe tablet -  trying to squeeze that extra 1% of color space accuracy won't mean anything. Just get a good monitor with good specs

  8. the fact is, to get any enjoyment out of Sl in current times, it really is a must a new user needs:

    1) Money: Sl is all about shopping and making your avi looking good, and that takes money

    2) To get any amount of enjoyment out of it, a desktop computer or really, really good laptop. See #1

    3) Prepare to invest a minimum 30 days of your time  in 'Noob Boot camp'. One does not simply download the SL viewer and have a good time. No you have to know how the engine works, how the braking system works, this is not a press the gas and go type of entertainment

  9. FS just has all the features you need and a good UI and it is stable. For self pictures especially, BD because of the poser, But then again it really depends on what you do in SL. If you just shop and listen to music the Official viewer is perfectly fine for that

Based on a quick look through the viewer code, all objects are simply treated the same -- as if they were right in front of the camera -- when that checkbox is unchecked.

That's also the behavior I see in-world, objects are rendered with full detail no matter how far away they are, even up to 1024 meters from the camera.

yes that seems to be the case which is why is would be great of there was like a slider to dial in the range. I suppose it is pretty low priority, but in some situations, particularly doing video, that would be super useful

  11. Does anybody know if there is a de bug setting or anyway to adjust the distance the dynamic LOD kicks in for the 'Dynamically adjust level of detail' checkbox? For instance I often need objects to stay fully rezzed say, 25 meters from the camera, but not so much the entire distance set in draw distance. Right now it is set at what seems like maybe 3-5 meters at the most. This is particularly useful when doing video - unchecking that can really reduce the FPS, but often dont need everything out to for example 180 to be rendered at full detail, just maybe like 25 meters. An example of how i encounter this all the time is when videoing a wedding  and the camera is near the front of aisle by the alter and the wedding party starts walking in, often times a bouquet they are holding will "pop" in at a few meters from the camera, but not where they started their walk. So I have to uncheck this setting, but I really don't need everything 180m from the camera position to be fully rezzed, as it relates to LOD

  12. TBH if it wasn't for the fact you can't pan left/right up/down with cam smoothing you can do about all the smooth fly cam work with the mouse and keyboard shortcuts using some mouse smoothing and or with the arrow keys as the keyboard shortcuts you could get away without having to use a space mouse, o-box controller or other such device. A number of years ago a guy was working on a virtual fly cam using the keyboard numbers and once i got it working was great, but when i switched computers could never get it to install again
