I thought SL does not benefit (in fact is much slower) with SLI? I have tried multiple times for over a year to SLI with a benefit and as yet no success.

Have you run shadows or projected light on your AMD card? LL develops with Nvidia cards which in theory handle openGL much better. What we need is some benchmark tests with different cards.

That cpu appears to be overkill to me unless it's necessary for your video editing? SL fps is about speed. So an i7 2600k (I have a i7 930 2.8ghz) should be plenty and you can overclock it if need be but you will need an upgrade of the heatsink. Use more than one hard drive. One for the OS and one for capturing (partition both). Put the OS and capture folder on the outside edge (1st partition) of each hard drive respectively. I use FRAPS for capturing. 8-16gb of RAM ( I'm using 12gb Corsair 1600) is fine. 7200rpm hard drives are a must in my opinion especially for capturing. Create a RamDisk in your RAM and install SL viewer and the SL cache there and you will see higher fps. Ram is a 100x faster than a hard drive. I don't beleive you need RAID. Video card is super important. Always Nvidia (LL develeops the game using Nvidia cards and ATI has some issues with OpenGL apparently). I use a GTX 460. A GTX 570 may be a benefit however when using shadows and projected light etc. and help increase useable draw distances. Do not try SLI (2+ video cards as SL viewer does not benefit anymore from my tests). In fact you might go from 200 fps down to 30 fps or so when enabled. My guss is a system like this would cost about half of the $3500. You could invest in a GTX 580? Possibly wait till the next generation of video cards that are coming out this year? Try to get the video card with the fastest gpu. They vary. Their is a direct relationship between that and fps especially in shadow mode. 70% more? I dont see any benefot at all in any version of Linux that I tried but maybe I have Windows tweaked so their is no difference?

When I have that uissue it is related to running out of RAM even though I have 5 gb avialable if I get over 3.5 gb used it will slow fps down radically. Crashing might also be heat related. But definitely check Ram usage in Task Manager performnce Tab.

Your PC is underpowered for using FRAPS and SL at the same time. Even with a DuoCore I would get up to 90% cpu usage doing that and FRAPS would drop about 10-15 fps. Try to get a DuoCore system with at least a 8800GTX and 2 GB RAM.

What is your system? There is a huge difference in performance depending on your hardware. Basically SL does not lag with high end PC. Laptops can be an issue. And you need to tweak the viewer after it's default install for speed and graphicsbetter .

There is no way you would get that first result with a 580GTX without settings being wrong is my guess? Even a 9800GT runs better than that on a DuoCore. I have not been able to run SLI except once on the KL viewer latest builds 8 which are very buggy trying to load at all. I have 2 460GTXs however disable SLI and can get up to 50 fps with Shadow Mode depending on where I am and settings etc. My guess is your settings are not optimum in the first case? I'm not sure what you mean by before and after (what?). You have alotof great video ideas btw.

I searched youtube and 299 vids this month posted with these search terms "second Life + dancing". If anything it's rampant. I usualy get agro about doing to many dancing vids but it's fun :-). Go to an interesting SIM at 2 am and listen to the stream and dance. Fun and relaxing. I was impressed with the dancing. Is that a spacenav? If so you need to adjust the feathering on it from the default. Recording at 720P is twice the fps as 1080P although I was impressed by your lack of lag. Check oout some Burlesque Shows as they have exellent dance routines and amazing sets. I recommend Guerilla Burlesque at Idle Rogue, Ellie's Burlesque or the Beautiful Freaks. Kind of an Cirque du Soleil style and they know all the dances and do lot of synched dancing as well. Great start above the norm actually cheers

You want to look UNIQUE. Mix and match and even having some female avatars works as well. trust me I know where of I speak :-). I regularly have people say I am mesmerizing etc. from both sexes. Laptop's are not your best option. I have a desktop with a 460 GTX and in Shadow mode will get 30-50 fps. Double or triple that otherwsie. One issue is heat which will slow you down. SL needs a lot of PC power. What is your cpu? Also the SL viewer will install by default slower that it can run especially if yu get that message about not recognizing your video card. On a desktop I got great performance with an old AMD DuoCore 4200+. 4 hard drives, 9800GT and 2 gb of Ram on Win Xp. I don't recommend ATI for various reasons which seem to be performance and graphic related. Nvidia is used by LL to develop the game. So if your laptop can benchmark similar to this system you may be ok. SL generates a LOT of heat so a laptop has serious issues in that regard. I know people doing wonderfully creative things on SL with laptops albeit at drastically reduced framerates.
