  2. @Prok. I don't use SLuniverse enough to understand how their photo-pages work, so I'm not sure. However, as a land-owner in SL, what I'd like to see is the content related to a parcel I own get automatically aggregated to its places page, and for that page to include tools which would allow me to curate that content. For example, if someone visited NeoVictoria and took 30 pictures, I might only want to include a couple in the page feed. On the flip side, as a resident visiting a parcel, I'd also like to have some control over the stuff I post to my SL photo feed. For example, if I visited NeoVictoria and took 30 pictures, I might not want any of them to appear in the parcel page's photo-feed. To your comment about who gets to control the parcel page's description page? That's tricky! If you are a resident who owns a mainland parcel which you rent from the Lab, the permissions are easy; the owner-avatar should be the only editor of the page. But what if the land is owned by a group? Do all the owners of that group have rights to edit the page? Or, does anyone with a role that includes rights to edit the in-world parcel profile also get rights to the parcel-page? And what if the region is private and the owner "sells" parcels; then who has rights to edit that parcel's page? It's unclear to me how much (if any) of the in-world group permissions will/are being used to define access to the parcel page. I got to the discussion after they closed the beta, so I could not test.

  3. @Aethelwine. In order to post comment to the JIRA, you need to be logged into the portal. When you view a JIRA, look in the upper-right corner of the window, if you don't see your SL avatar name there, you're not logged in to it. If you are logged in, but you cannot post a comment, then I'm not sure. I know the Lab has different levels of permissions for JIRA users. Usually, if the JIRA is open and public, anyone can post a comment. If that's not the case for you, try opening a JIRA of your own and report the effect. Hope this helps!

  4. Thanks, Prok. I hope the Lab will be able to use these pages to automatically aggregate content residents create that's related to the location, like pictures and events and destination guide picks. As always, the devil is in the details. I suspect the challenge will be less about getting the content to replicate and more about getting the permissions to work in a way that doesn't compromise the integrity of the page.

  5. I'm having trouble finding anything using the SEARCH function in https://places.secondlife.com/parcels; it gives results but those point to hyperlinks that don't present usable pages.

Expected result:  A page should open, similar to https://places.secondlife.com/parcels/46643/winter-wonderland

Actual result:  A page opens with the redirect error message off a URL that isn’t configured like the expected result, i.e. https://places.secondlife.com/parcels/0cac852a-8b12-6d8d-d276-6fd2da8baf24. I opened JIRA BUG-41204 for this: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-41204.

The Lab has closed the current BETA test to new testers, so I can't do more testing.  That said, I'm very pleased by this enhancement.

    Wish list:

    • Link a, in-world group (other than the land-group, if a group is the parcel owner), and its notices to a page, preferably with an RSS function.
    • Create the ability to include a link to an external site.
    • Automatically create a photo-gallery of photos taken on the parcel, which are save to any resident's photo-feed  IF the "visit this location" option is ticked, i.e. https://my.secondlife.com/asil.karu/snapshots/585c8181b015401e34000001 would automatically get linked to the "NeoLondon; dark roleplay with Steampunk style at NeoVictoria" parcel page. Give the parcel-owner the ability to remove these photos from the gallery.
    • Create a link to a new page that presents the Convenant for the estate (if one exists).
    • Link any events posted to the SL community calendar for the parcel, preferably with an RSS function.
    • Finally, we’ve had pages for regions and parcels for a long time.  Here’s that page for “NeoVictoria Steampunk SkyMall, Machinima Arts & Roleplay Homes”: http://world.secondlife.com/place/0cac852a-8b12-6d8d-d276-6fd2da8baf24.  These lacked the functionality of these new pages; I mostly used mine to keep track of the locations of vendors and other scripted objects.  I hope these legacy pages won't be disabled, once the new system is out-of-beta.

Machinima has a rich tradition in SecondLife, where creators use the 3D modding tools to make dramas, music videos and historical simulations.
