  1. Oi's not really hidden, its on the page where you reset cache. Frankly, few people need to disable auto-updates anyway. The only reason most do not update is because they are impatient or lazy, one or the other. Some have hardware issues, but that is also usually an update issue, either updating graphics drivers or updating hardware. Linden Lab is not perfect, but I much prefer the autoupdate so I don't have to nag viewer 2 people to update their viewer. When people don't update their viewer then they complain about this and that when it would take just 5 minutes to update the viewer and the new version has likely solved the issue. Simply put, there is no reason to disable autoupdates. it is a useful feature. I don't even run viewer 2 much but i keep up with its development in the blog and wiki. Most people just don't care whats in the new version. If you disable the autoupdate because you dont want a little notice that an update is ready or because you cant wait a few minutes then yeah, thats impatience. Also, not all problems are on SL are because of viewer updates. They do have server problems, so it is on LL's end sometimes. In addition, some people have bad connections which is an ISP problem. And frankly some people have crappy hardware that can't run SL well. Don't single out viewer updates for problems, as it could be any number of issues.
  2. actually they have sped up viewer development. I view that as a good thing, as it means bugs get fixed faster and features get rolled out faster as well. The reason they put automatic updates in viewer 2 is so people wouldn't have to check all the time if there was an update and could get those features and because of lazy people that wouldn't bother updating even if they were told about it. Saying its updating every day is an exaggeration, the closest releases were 6 days apart, usually its every 2 or 3 weeks. This is better than waiting 3 or 4 months to get an update to the viewer. We cant hold back the whole grid because people want SL to run on their 6 year old computers.it also does not take more memory, as when it installs a new version, it usually deletes the old one. The updates to SL viewers are likely not the cause of your issues in SL, it more likely is server issues and connection issues, or having an old computer.
  3. They do tend to test it, but the RC sims are specifically for this reason because so few use the beta regions on ADITI. It works usually, just lately they have been having issues with it as they are trying to introduce new things. It does bear some patience, which many don't seem t have much of. If they don't test these out we will be stuck on the same server version for months and months. I prefer these weekly restarts, we get rapid changes, but also rapid fixes
  4. The sim Lost Empire is down, about an hour after the sim went down for the rolling restart. Several other nearby sims have been down for the same length of time.
  5. Nobody wants the 1.x viewers to be poisoned with such a horrible, unanimously hated feature as display names. um...if display names are SOOOO hated why do i see practically everyone using one? it is not a unanimously hated thing, just like the anti voice people that insist everyone hates voice, but then dont enable it and want to stop everyone else form using it. I feel that display names are the same. you are part of a vocal minority. I would love if they put isplay names into viewer one code base..but thats what phoenix is for since the newer ones have display names
  6. "First of all your the biggest retard blogging this crap" because personal insults make your point clear and make you right... "If you really think downloading a newer version of the sl viewer is not a big issue well then your so wrong" Its not a big issue, not at all, same with other programs. "i asume your running sl without changing things in debug and preferences and your screem position with the layout like building." I don't run viewer 2 much, when i do, changing that stuff usually takes 5 minutes since i know exactly what i want to change. "It cost me about 30min everytime i change to a update and i dont whant to update every month" Then don't update. No one forces you to update every month, no one forces you to use the betas. You can still use 2.1.1 or 2.2 without any issues. My problem is with you acting like EVERYONE is against the frequent updates, when the vast majority are not. ad that LL should go to a 6 month (!) release cycle. the last thing i want is a linden reading that and slowing down development. If you want a non updated viewer go back to 1.23.5 since it likely will never be updated again. Having been around when SL was only updated like once every 4 months, i would rather have frequent updates. People that don't ever want to update can try the older viewer with fewer features, thats the tradeoff in technology, you cant get the most modern stuff but never want to update your programs. "i deleted library junk out of my inventory good for 1400+ items all crap and useless junk this is just a example why i delete that? well it cost more time to load the inventory! I deleted classic clouds because they are lagy as hell and footprint shadow etc etc etc." Some people do use whats in the library to learn how to build or see examples of it, or just like the look of something. Again, my issue is with you assuming everyone on SL is exactly like you, when most are not. "so yes i have a problem with the useless updates sl is ffooling us with indeed so what is that your problem is that something you may judge me about you f****tard?" again with name calling...i said people that dont update programs ever are lazy, and thats my honest opinion since i work in IT and am responsible for that sorta thing on hundreds of computers. Wait until its out of beta THEN update to it. No one , including myself, said that you have to use the latest, bleeding edge like viewer 2.3 but not wanting viewer development to go forward for 6 months at a time...no, i have not heard any demand for that. Check out the viewer 2.3 release notes here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Beta_Viewer/2.3.0 See all the changes? Those might benefit some people, so i feel that those that want it should be able to get those changes. Saying that everyone in SL should wait 6 months between updates because it inconveniences you is actually rather selfish. If YOU don't want to update, then don't. LL wont force you to the new viewer version until they release 2.3 and then only if you are on 2.1.1 . If you are on 2.2 then no problem until 2.4 or whatever comes out. Honestly with viewer 2 it seems you only *have* to update every 2 or 3 months to keep using it. Viewer 1.23.5 is stable, but hasnt been updated in a year. TPVs like phoenix are good, but they update as well, usually every month or two, and most are switching to a viewer 2 code soon so will update a lot in the future. If you notice, i had *no* problem with any other point but the one about updates being every 6 months and that " people are getting sick of all thos updates " implying that there is a large group of people that don't like it, when in reality you are one of the very few i have heard express this sentiment (and i work in a busy club in SL so i talk to a lot of people). If you respond, drop the name calling like retard and such, its rather immature and belongs in high school.
  7. "10. Stop updating viewers so manny times people are getting sick of all thos updates just come with a desent viewer and do a 6 monthly update instead of every month or almost every 2weeks!" No, no, no, no, no,no ,no. No one I have talked to that uses viewer 2 is tired of updates, in fact the vast majority welcome them. A bi-annual update is too long between them, and any problems or new features would have to wait 6 months to be fixed or put in place. I would rather there be an update every month than every 6 months, it only takes a few minutes to install the new version and you can still use the 1.23 viewer as well which hasn't been updated in like a year. No one forces you to update immediately to a new version, you can still use viewer 2.1.1 or viewer 2.2, or this beta version (2.3). People like you are the ones that cause computer virus outbreaks and have the most issues with their computers because they can't be bothered to take five minutes to update programs. By keeping up to date many issues you have can be fixed, and security improved as well. I don't feel bad for the lazy when it comes to updating programs. click a button, wait 5 or 10 minutes (30 at the most) and be done with it, its really not that hard. "Can anybody tell me if Imprudence is a decent viewer?" Imprudence is not a bad viewer, nor is phoenix, emergence, dolphin or the whole host of other third party viewers, but if you think Linden Labs updates too much, do not try a third party viewer, they tend to update even more than LL viewers do. Most of the new features coming to viewer 2 are coming from third party viewers as part of the snowstorm project. No viewer is a monolith that stays still for 6 months.
