  1. The fact is that I know more about you from information that has been shared to me from LL than information that you have consciously chosen to share yourself. That is where the objection comes from. Most people are happy to share all kinds of things about themselves, but would be upset if they were forced to share.

Rowan Amore is possibly personal information - It's a display name that probably has no bearing on your real name, it's something you've chosen to share and could change at any time. You have control over what name is shared, and can change it at any time. 05/11/xxxx (xx years, 9 months old) Is personal information about you. From reading this information on your profile I can begin to establish facts about your RL age. I can also learn that you have a premium subscription which tells me some level of information about your current financial status, again more RL information.

On that same line of thought, I think that LL placing our premium status in our profiles is over-sharing and I've never been comfortable with the idea that how much money I pay LL each month is effectively published on my profile. I fear it also makes me look holier than thou to other guests. If it were my choice I probably wouldn't have chosen to feature it on my profile. LL has a habit of oversharing things on our behalf it seems.
  7. Yes I'd personally really like to be able to share my timezone and have a clock on my profile so people stop expecting me to be awake at 4am (Oh wait.. look at the time..) But counter intuitively I'd be pretty upset if I was forced to share that information.I like things to be my own choice
  8. I think the whole 'hiding' mindset is unproductive. Just because I don't choose to share with you what I ate for breakfast doesn't mean I'm hiding it, does it? The people who care about account age will either ask if they want to know or simply seek someone who does share that information. We don't all have to make our shower curtains see-through just to please the 'nothing to hide, nothing to worry about' people. It's okay to not want to share personal information with strangers on the Internet. Nobody here really has a right to know, they're not exactly dating you are they.
  9. Well, I can see where OP is coming from. Lots of people come to SL to forget RL. When your account age is old enough to vote it does inevitably bring RL back into SL when people point that out. Just because SL does something doesn't mean it should. What harm does it honestly do SecondLife, to let residents choose what they want to share?

  13. a lot of people started working from home after good ol' bat flu came along, including myself. So even though maybe the population didn't increase perhaps there is more of the existing population who like me are online during work hours.
  14. Inside the link message event it's checking for certain messages. I guess there's probably a reverse message that comes in or something You can probably figure out what message you need to handle by having the script say the message and then putting your car in reverse and seeing what is said.
  15. I think Quiestess was saying you'd use an animation to offset the animesh, not to rotate it. ie you can still use target omega but you need a 1 frame animation that moves the whole animesh away from center
  16. Can't help but notice OP has a store with this category of products and most MP reviews seem to be uh.... mixed. to put it kindly. I'm not denying that recent MP changes could play a part, but judging from their review feedback, could it be possible the reason that OP doesn't find their products there anymore be because they are not as well received by customers as products with similar tags?
  17. I think the point that the people within a region are ultimately what decide the character of a community is an under-appreciated one sometimes. I have friends who run sims with similar interests and they simply do not put themselves out there or on search because too many new people too fast can make a familiar place become unfamiliar and cause it to lose any culture or homeliness it may have harvested. Guests can feel entitled to have permanence in your community, even if they do not integrate or fit the overall goals. In my own region, Kokoro Academy, we encountered this problem in the past. We tackled the problem by creating a ticket system whereby you have to obtain a free ticket to travel into the main community area (the roleplay school). A guest can only get so many tickets per month, but a member of the community has no limits. What that achieved was to completely change our relationship with the people who enter the sim. New guests no longer expected to be able to stay forever, and they understood themselves to be guests. Where in the past, we would have to explicitly move people on that were not good fits or if the sim was simply getting too hard to manage (which results in confrontation, hurt egos and general stress) the ticket system meant no such confrontation was necessary as nobody was expecting to be able to stay forever in the first place. Instead of the majority of administrative tasks being to confront people for behaviour, the majority of administrative tasks are simply issuing more tickets, or enrolling particularly good guests. It turned administration from something stressful to something nice. Many of our guests comment on how they feel much more calm and at home at Kokoro than other sims they hangout in, and I think that's why. It's always familiar.
  18. Make sure the experience is rated moderate or greater. it was made so that RLV commands issued from a script compiled with an experience inside temp attached object only work if the experience rating is above moderate.
  19. This resurrected an old memory for me. Back when I first started SecondLife in 2008, there was a roleplay community that was largely vehicle based. Every residence in the community had a functioning mailbox. I was employed as a mail man and given my own mail truck. My job was to drive around delivering notecards to mailboxes. Nostalgia...
  20. I think it's always worth asking for features, even if you are uncertain of the workload involved. In the end LL knows better than any of us what it would take in terms of changes. The worst that can happen is they can say no, too much work at this time. Or say they're not interested. As for how much 'juice' we would receive. Well, unfortunately none of us have a window into the future. But I think that there's a lot of potential. Consider that vehicles and driving are already quite a big thing in SecondLife. The 'Drivers of SecondLife' group is large enough that it received a position front and center in the opening of the SecondLife Community Exhibition at the new avatar welcome area. Everywhere you look on Linden Roads are gas stations and car related games. Airports are everywhere on the mainland. Sailing has a whole continent based around it. Although the feature on its own might seem not that big, I think it's part of a much larger picture, with things like gamepad support already in the works, along with that new combat comittee LL is forming. I think vehicles have potential to grow even further as all of these pieces of the puzzle start to come together. Not to mention there is strong appetite from within LL to lower the download weight of objects, which will make LI less of a concern. Sometimes it's hard to see the forest you're helping to grow, when you only plant the first tree.

So given what Quartz Mole is saying, we know a vehicle always counts towards Region LI no matter what -But - driven vehicles don't count towards Parcel LI and are instead treated like a temp on rez object. I think it makes sense that by and large an unattended vehicle counts towards parcel LI. Nobody is using it. It's a decoration. But standing up on your boat to walk across the deck is not really the same in practical terms - You're still using your boat, even if you're not actually sat on it at the moment. With that in mind I think it makes sense to break this into two separate features:- Feature 1: Let avatars stand on/in vehicles: If we're actually stood on top of/inside the vehicle, count this the same as though we were driving it. This allows walking around on the decks of boats, interiors of planes etc. It doesn't make sense to automatically de-rez the vehicle in this scenario, from a game design point of view. After all, the vehicle is still being attended and you are still using it. Feature 2: (Optional) Park and explore setting for parcel owners. If we wander away from the vehicle, now it counts towards Parcel LI the same as a regular object and becomes subject to auto-return like normal, but we add a new opt-in park and explore feature that parcel owners can choose to turn on and set the distance an avatar can explore away from their last vehicle. This grants an exemption from auto-return for vehicles where the driver/passengers are within a set exploration distance. This gives parcel owners the ability to provide the facility of parking to residents so long as the resident remains within the distance specified in parcel settings to the vehicle. This would be good for enabling a new mode of mainland usage where residents shop and explore that was previously not very practical.
  22. I didn't discuss it in depth, just briefly mentioned. There was some interest, but the group primarily focuses on weekly rallies on set routes rather than exploration or lifestyle. For them the biggest issue they seemed to care about was sim crossings. I did go on a rally with them. It was fun, sim crossing crashes were definitely a big problem, but funnily enough they all happened on corner crossings. I didn't have any issues going across regular crossings. I'm also not a fan of driving a car with keyboard. I can't wait for the upcoming gamepad support.
  23. Honestly the easiest way to put this to bed is just going to be to test it. I'll do some experiments later and report my findings.

I talked to some of the leaders of the Drivers of SecondLife group the other day at the community exhibition event, who informed me that vehicle LI always counts towards region impact, regardless if sat on or not. I will have to test it to be sure myself later. I do keep a small parcel on the mainland, so maybe I can try filling it up with prims and then trying to drive a vehicle into it to see what happens.
