  1. I have that problem too but it happens randomly rather than consistently. For me what always fixes it is reattaching the hair.
  2. I definitely agree, I find it kind of annoying that so many tops and dresses have boobs a mile apart, too.. It would be nice (although a bit more work for the designer) if they could include versions with different measurements like a larger or smaller bust. Sometimes I have to adjust my avatars boob size just to fit into a shirt(and I normally only have them on 50-55 which is not even big at all), and although it doesn't greatly impact my look, it's still annoying to have to adjust things like that for each different outfit.
  3. /shameless self advertising Nar Mattaru - Specializing in women's heavy metal clothing ;D http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Clapton/102/32/22 My store is still pretty new but I am getting more things up as much as I can. My marketplace store and in-world store have mostly the same items but there are some that are in one that aren't in the other. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/16872
  4. I found this skin on Flickr that I am in love with but I cannot seem to find it. Someone previously said it was a Glance skin but I couldn't find anything that looked similar at the store, and the collarbone doesn't look like their style either from what I can see of it. Any help? ;o http://www.flickr.com/photos/veruka_tanabe/8346343963/in/pool-443019@N20/
  5. It would probably be helpful to potential empoloyers/designers if you posted one full body and one close up face screenshot of your avatar, as well as describe your style. I believe that's the basic information most people will ask for when hiring models so it helps to post that right off the bat.
  6. @Evee: ERMAGHERD SRMWERN HER KNERS ERMAGHERD My favorite memes are probably ermagherd, bad luck brian, scumbag steve, SOON, omgrun, me gusta.. oh the list goes on. I tried to search you in-world to add you but my client has been being a it derpy lately with the search function. ;o It just opens the window and never tries to load anything. Can you send me a friend request?
  7. I've checked the land forums and done searches in-world and so far cannot find the right place for me to put my in-world store. I would prefer to be in a small shopping district with other shops that are similar in style to mine, but the only few I have come across do not have any open spots for rent. This is my marketplace store so you can get an idea of my shops style: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/16872 I would need probably between 50 and 100 prims for my products for sale. I prefer the area to have decent traffic but doesn't have to be insanely busy either. I prefer a premade store but I am fine with building my own if necessary, though I may need a few additional prims to do so. The most important thing to me is that the other shops in the area sell quality work, are similar in style to my own, and are not business-in-a-box types. I would also prefer to avoid places that are predominantly furry stuff because I'm not into it at all and I would like to enjoy the other shops on the sim as much as I hope they will enjoy mine. Nothing against it, just not my thing and I feel like we wouldn't have the same target audiences. If you have (or even just know of) something that fits what I am looking for with available spots for rent, please post a slurl and the price/prims and I will check it out. :)
  8. It really depends on the quality of the work. I'll gladly pay $500L for a pair of boots that make me gawk in awe at the amount of detail they have and how much hard work and effort it looks like the designer put into them. But I won't even pay $200L for a pair that look like they were hastily thrown together, or look like they may have come from a prefab kit unless they were insanely awesome and a demo were available. Something is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Quality work = higher price. Even for a high-end designer who has exceptionally good quality work, freebies are great for business. As long as the customer feels the price is justified for the item they are getting you can charge whatever you want for it. For example, a small face tattoo by the eye I wouldn't charge more than maybe $25L for. If it took you little time/effort to make, don't charge someone a lot for it. If you hand-drew a full body tattoo including full sleeves and they are very detailed, I would pay about $500L for them, possibly up to $100 if they are completely seamless and accentuate the curves of my avatars body (of course provided that they are my style in the first place).
  9. If there are multiple combinations of colors (such as accent colors and base colors) I'd rather a hud, but if it's pretty minimal in the options (like just basic colors all around) then I'd rather separate objects. I would prefer the method that lets me find and wear exactly which one I want the easiest.
  10. Oh I definitely agree. I hate when the pants are shaded in a way that makes my avatars bum look saggy or flat. I am (pardon the pun) quite **bleep** about my avs bum looking good. I do wish more stores would show a back view as well. ;o
  11. It really depends on your style and your avatar shape. If your avatar shape has 0 body fat and 0 belly size, you will have no problem finding mesh sizes (standard or not) that fit totally fine. My avatar has body fat of about 8 or so, and a belly size of 4-5 which I sometimes have to adjust for mesh clothing that is tigher. Mesh is great because it is rigged to your avatar and conforms to certain body sliders. It can be loose and look realistic, moving with your avatar seamlessly in a way that multiple prim attachments can't. Most designers follow standard sizes so that if you are a size medium in one mesh shirt, you will be a size medium in every other mesh shirt. Mesh can also be a huge pain in the ass because while it does conform to certain body sliders, it completely ignores others (such as body fat, breast size, muscle, etc). Standard sizes are supposed to make it easier to find the right size, but I've noticed that while most major designers do follow them, a lot of independent ones do not. My av is a small by standard sizes, but she's been able to wear an XXS and even a large from some stores which makes no sense at all. It is also extremely difficult to layer it with other mesh clothing since it's not completely skin-tight. It almost always pokes through when wearing it with other mesh that overlaps it in any way, and the only way to fix it is to wear a larger size in the piece that goes over the other, which can usually result in a bit of bulk. Also, since mesh is basically replacing part of the body (since it usually requires an alpha layer to look right), it can often change the way your shape looks, which can be a good or a bad thing. My avatar has thick but proportionate legs, but a lot of skinny jeans have really skinny legs and it makes my avatar look frumpy. It's also rare to find mesh pants that you can wear boots over them with unless the designer made different lengths for different length boots. System clothing is great because it always conforms to your avatars shape, since it is essentially painted on clothing. It can be worn under mesh clothing, and it's easy to layer with. You can wear boots with the pants no problem which is nice for me since I love boots. System clothing sometimes sucks because it is always skin tight (unless you mess with the looseness sliders, and even then they usually make the garment look like complete crap). The one thing I would say mesh is definitely worth it for is skirts and dresses, as the skirt prim that's worn between the legs with system pants doesn't always match the texture up right and is usually almost invisible from behind. Plus in a lot of poses it seems to disappear completely depending on which body part it's attached to. System skirts just make your avatar have a gigantic ass. Mesh skirts don't really mess with your body proportions and they move naturally with your avatar. There are still a lot of great system/prim skirt combinations out there that are better than the norm so don't completely rule them out. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, really. I prefer mesh for some things while I prefer system clothing for others. Redgrave has a pair of pants out that she calls Liquid Mesh (LQM), which conform to even more body sliders than mesh usually does (including body fat, leg muscle, knee angle, butt size, etc) and they have the best pants/lower body shape I've seen on the grid. I just wish I could wear my boots with them (sadly they poke through since the ankle is not skin tight). I would keep an eye out in her store though for if she comes out with more of this liquid mesh clothing because the concept is pretty awesome and so far I'm in love with the jeans.
  12. The dumbest thing about it all is that as far as I know, the Mayans didn't even "predict" anything at all. People just blew the fact that their calendar ends on the 21st horribly out of proportion and decided that it meant the apocalypse. I don't care how hard anyone tries, unless it is digital there will never be an infinite calendar. It has to end somewhere. Does the world end when our calendars end on Dec. 31st every year? No. We get a new calendar for the new year and if the Mayans were still here that's what they would be doing-- Making a new calendar that ends another few thousand years into the future.
  13. My friends store Candy Mountain would probably suit your style. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ultima/224/95/22
  14. It's your windlight settings that cause that. It CAN be minimized not with the lip fatness but with the mouth corners. If they are below 50 that effect starts becoming more prominent, which is lame because I think most people have theirs well below 50 unless they want their avatar being obnoxiously smiling all the time. If you windlight settings are right and you don't get shadows on the face at any angle, this effect will go away regardless of the mouth corners sliders. I usually have my settings for the sun set at exactly 6:00pm and that seems to put the sun at the perfect angle to NOT cast shadows anywhere on my avatar. Try it out and see if that works.
  15. Sexiness is subjective, so it really depends on your personal taste. What I think is sexy may not be to you, and what you think is sexy may not be to me. It's best to cater to your own tastes rather than others because if you only cater to other people, you won't be happy with your look and you'll always be disappointing someone (and worse if it's yourself). I can give some suggestions for skins though if you'd like. The Body Co. has some gorgeous ones but they are a bit pricey. LAQ also has some lovely skins (especially the new Saga skin from the Essentials line). Glance just came out with a new skin called Lana who's face is amazing (but to me the body lacks the same level of detail. Still a great skin though). Glam Affair has some nice ones too. Just do a search in-world for the names of the stores and you'll find them. Otherwise if you need a LM to any of them feel free to IM me and I'll be more than happy to send you one. As for shapes I know what you mean. Most people tend to look the same with the invisible pony riders look as mentioned above, and the scrunched up bratz doll faces I always see (uber slanted and narrow eyes, usually way too far apart, gigantic lips, scrunched up faces, and no chin). I'll do some shameless self-advertising for now, as I do have a few shapes in my marketplace shop for sale if you'd like to check them out. I always try to make them curvy but not chubby, and thin but not unhealthy. I always aim for realism with my shapes. I have one for the Ivy skin by the Body Co. (the skin I wear myself) which can be found here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Nar-Mattaru-Avatar-Shape-Ivy/4266262 and one for the Saga skin by LAQ which can be found here: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Nar-Mattaru-Saga-Avatar-Shape/4266387. I would have more up but I haven't felt like buying the skins to make them for so I haven't gotten around to more. I am also available to do requests/custom shapes though if you find another skin you like and would like for me to make a shape for it for you.
  16. I apologize in advance for the long read. My actual question is at the bottom in bold. The long read is the background information regarding the problem. So I bought a full perm mesh shirt from a seller on the marketplace. I made a few shirts with it and have them for sale in my store on the marketplace, abiding by every one of their terms and conditions for the mesh (repainting the texture entirely, not selling full perm or freebies, etc). Anyway, when I opened up the UV map texture for the shirt, I noticed it was really screwy. Not buggy screwy but just didn't make sense why it was unwrapped this way. I have plenty of experience in Maya, I just don't have the patience to make my own mesh clothing here on SL. I hate rigging and I hate unwrapping UVs, but I do know how it is done. I also know that when you unwrap the UV you can rearrange the part of the image that goes where on the mesh on the wiremap. As in, you can drag drop and scale each part and arrange it to fit on the map however you want. Now I know that may not be possible in all modeling programs and I have no idea which one this person used but I don't see any reason for having all of this extra space in the texture map. It forced me to have to use 1024x1024 textures instead of 512x512 because the 512 was simply too small for any text to be legible (since the actual wireframe at that point was closer to 256x128). I could still just barely get the resolution I would have had with a normal 512 map, but with the rez time of a 1024. It wasn't a HUGE deal, but I felt it was worth a mention in my review. Anyway, I left a four out of five star review on the sellers page for the shirt I bought. They contacted me a few days later saying its a bug and offering to email me another copy of the wiremap, but I politely explained that I don't think it's any sort of bug, just the way the map was unwrapped (If I scaled up the wireframe but not the image resolution, only that top left corner would be showing on my shirt) They asked me if I could update my review just to say that it's workable since I did get my shirts to look okay, so that no one thinks it's unusable and doesn't buy it. I agreed seeing no problem with that and updated my review. I still left it at 4/5 stars and I still mentioned the problem of the UV. I updated my review to this: Nice mesh but wtf@the UV mapsPosted December 19, 2012 by Jade Glazner 4 stars I like the mesh but the texture maps have way too much unnecessary whitespace. The part of the texture map that it actually uses for the shirt is confined to the top left quadrant of the map. The entire thing is still 1024x1024 but the size of the area of texture that's actually shown on the shirt is only about 30% the size of the entire image. I unfortunately had to leave it at that size in order for any text to be legible and not blurry at a short distance, which means longer rezzing times for customers. I managed to make it work okay and I love how my shirts look but I would much rather be able to use a regular 512x512 map, which is not possible with this. I honestly don't see anything in my review that could be perceived as offensive. But apparently they got really bent out of shape at the fact that I said "wtf" in the title. I'm not a professional critic, and I don't feel the need to be formal with my reviews. I didn't use the actual word and the expression wasn't even used angrily, it was just the only thing that I felt accurately described my reaction to seeing the UV map. Anyway, they started cursing at me and calling me names and all sorts of things because of it. I maintained my composure and proceeded to re-explain the problem I had with the UV and asked if they were to do an updated version please let me know, etc. I was still being polite. But my problem (and question) is, during this fairly unpleasant conversation, they returned my lindens and threatened to DMCA anything I have up for sale using their meshes and not to buy from them anymore. My question is, could they DMCA my shirts? I did buy the full perm items from them on the marketplace and I abided by all of the rules in their TOS notecard that came with it. And if they do DMCA it, does LL actually review them before things are deleted? Can they check the transaction records to show that I purchased the full perm items from them, and that I am following all of their rules regarding resale? It would be quite **bleep**ty if they were to DMCA something I paid for the rights to use, regardless of them giving me an unsolicited refund. I also have the chat log of the entire conversation saved on my computer. Would that suffice for LL if there was a problem?
  17. My boyfriend is usually at work all day so I often end up on SL for most of it. I'm bored as hell and need some friends to hang out, shop, just chat, and possibly brainstorm ideas for new stuff in my store (clothing, tattoos, eyes, etc). It would also be fun to find someone with a blog or something to take pictures with and actually have them seen by more than 4 people (like my sad flickr account) :S Not mandatory but it would be something fun to do. Also, I don't care if you're male or female and I am LGBT-friendly. About me (real life): 22 years old, female, college student majoring in Game Design, huge into old school metal (thrash, death, progressive, folk, etc. fav bands include sepultura, death, kreator, onslaught, obituary, motorhead, korpiklaani, dream theater, watain, dark fortress, nevermore, accept/UDO, crimson glory etc). Love tattoos and piercings (have both irl), memebaser (I make a lot of meme jokes, if you will have any idea what I'm talking about we'll get along wonderfully), and I love taking pictures and shopping in SL. I'm really laid back and a bit of an introvert --which is probably why I tend to not meet people just by chance as I am not the kind of person to initiate a conversation with someone I don't know. I value intelligence and wit. I strongly prefer people who make an effort to type properly. I have a tendency to read things in my head as they are spelled. If you type lyke dis or like u havnt passed 4th grd, I will likely imagine you as being mildly moronic. Sorry, honestly can't help it. ;o Just making an effort is all I ask for. I have no objection to voice chat once I've determined you're not a creeper. ------------- If you want to chat or hang out any time, please IM me in-world (just let me know you saw my thread so I don't dismiss it as a random add or bot). I'm really nice and I promise I won't bite your head off (unless you're being a dick, anyway). FYI: I have a boyfriend, so don't waste my time or yours if you're looking for anything more than friends. Not that I expect anyone to swoon over me, but I'd rather get that out of the way sooner than later. I am loyal so do not expect anything beyond platonic friendship.
  18. It is full perm, but I don't know how to apply the new texture to the mesh model. Since you can't edit mesh items in-world, I'm not sure how to go about doing it. I can paint my new texture with no problem (photoshop is not my issue), I just don't know how I would go about changing it on the mesh model itself. ;o I bought the kit because I liked the shirt as it was and just wanted to wear it myself, but then later decided I wanted to make it into something else. I bought this pack https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Full-Perm-Rigged-Boatneck-Cropped-Sweater-Fashion-Kit/4180743 it didn't come with a notecard or anything regarding instructions. Help please?
  19. Eh don't feel bad. I have the same problem and I have been here for over four years. I had a store for a while but I lost interest and went back to my main source of income (IMVU) for a while so I closed my store. Most of my friends on here are not active anymore. I typically have to ask people to log on if I want to do something, and most of the time they don't respond or just never get online. I always end up doing everything alone too and it kind of sucks when everyon else is shopping with their friends and I'm just kinda chilling in the corner, Lol. But I swear I'm not emo D; <--Metal chick! Feel free to add me on SL if you're bored! I've been on every day for the past week and only once have I actually had someone to hang out with. ;o
  20. I've been looking for the same lately, as I am quite bored and usually end up all dressed up with nowhere to go, Lol. I shop too much and currently have nowhere to show off my findings D; Feel free to add me if you haven't found someone else yet.
