  1. You seem to think that a lower rating does not cost the seller, it definitely does, because it can contribute to lowering the stars shown for an item.

We have discussed a lot of this at the Web User Group meetings, that the review system needs to change, that you should if you purchased an item, just be able to leave a rating and leave, no names no having to write anything, because not all people want to be seen as endorsing a product. The other way we also discussed the idea that like other rating systems, that clicking the avatar and seeing their full review history would work in everyone's favour, if someone is constantly a downer about all things, then the person reading the reviews could consider that. That someone that seems to only review one brand, would potentially be the discussed 'buying ratings' kind of situation. That someone showing very mindful reviews could be someone you look to as a guide in your future shopping habits and so on.
Second Life content creators are often doing it all, and when you poke them, they get really hurt by it, because they take it personally, and many have never worked in customer service industries, so this is all very new to them even if doing it for years.

Customers also abuse the system in a way that is very unnecessary, leaving one star reviews to say ' I cannot find the blue' instead of actually attempting to contact the seller or their staff if there are staff. Marketplace has a long history of communication drops, those reviews messages not getting to anyone at all, so if someone is reaching out via them, they go unseen, sometimes for years. Then others want to jump in and growl instead of trying to work out a solution.
Review is a misnomer for how Second Life conducts itself as a whole, and the way people rate with stars is too personal to them only. I have asked that we have a clear outline on the stars that 1 means this and 2 means this and so on, so that no one is putting down 3 stars because they like it, but don't love it, because they want to save their 4 - 5 stars for something SUPER DUPER \o/ because that is exactly how some people rate things.

In IMDB I had to decide that 7 meant I liked it but probably would not watch it a second time. But no one else knows that is my method.
So when someone does a 3 star rating  to them 3 stars can mean I use this pretty much exclusively and am happy with my purchase vs a 4 star rating  I would strip my whole region and build a pedestal to mount this on it.... to then be overtaken by a 5 star rating that just means you IMd the creator for their paypal account, because you feel that anytime you are in that items presence you want to give them more money and you have currently purchased it 87 times for friends family, and every single stranger you have met since the day of purchase. Then meet the person that feels that every purchase they make that actually arrived should get 5 stars because the very fact that they paid for it means the 5 stars justifies their expense, and they would not want to contradict their choices by lowering the stars :P

Any review left on Marketplace is a 'LOOK AT ME before you buy this thing' whether positive or negative, it is in no way a connection with the creator, because if you wanted to do that, you would just IM them, send a notecard. It will always be seen as hurtful if not flowery. The only thing lower than a 4 should just be that it did not deliver what was advertised, and no response from seller, to warn people that possibly that creator has like many just left, so you get no customer support and don't want someone to lose their lindens like you did.

I saw a review once that was bashing a creator because the swing they were selling did not come with the tree, but then it also did not come with the house, the grass, the region and the persons hair, skin, body, shoes, and clothing. Kind of like the Pink House review :D I also once got an IM/offline all outraged that they got a bag not pants, because they did not know to unpack the bag for the pants.

I have dealt with some reviews that have been horrid and cruel and just outright wrong, because you will also find that some customers feel that leaving a bad review on who they see as competition for their favourite brand is somehow doing Gods work. Then also theft, accusations of things that did not happen, and do not exist and been so harmful, and yet sat there for years. The Review response turn around is hit and miss, and sometimes something can happen in a day if you report it vs happening 6 months later that you forgot you even flagged it. But it definitely has to be flagged, and no one is going to flag the 5 star reviews because they should not like your good ones if they don't like your bad ones, that would be on you to go in and remove them if you feel that strongly about that...but that actually just proves the points made, if you were to remove good because of something bad on another item, you would be exactly what you are mad about, that people leave nonsense reviews and can use them as weapons.

I personally have always considered anyone the other side of 09 an oldbie, I am an 06 but...but I think the implementation of Sculpties aged us all :P and I always consider that 09.

  3. Hi, and Welcome to Second Life :)

    1. 17.5 years

    2. If you are counting you are not doing it right. (Just teasing...it changes week to week, first ten years 16+ hours a day, some days would roll into the next, and that still happens at various times of the year)

    3. As a fashion blogger for over a decade etc, the time spent on looks is pretty close to the 16+ hours per day... Working as a store Manager for many stores over the years also, the day to day 'looks' work looks, casual looks and so on all just roll into each other.

    4. My real life information is known by a handful of people, it is not something I would ever share lightly.

    5. Join Second Life by using lower case for their name... *looks at you, looking at me...I decided to forgive you though, because your name in RL is alliterative :D like mine is here.

  4. I had an experience recently where I put on the top, it was timed, I went to wear the bottom ( I like using wear, add is not my go to) and it removed the top, ok so they did not bother to choose a designated attachment point both were going to the same hand. I actually like knowing that, so I can deal with it, instead of adding. I went to re-wear the top that was removed, it was 'timed out' I had not worn it for longer than it took to wear it and try and wear the other part to the item, there was no delay, this script it seems was a try ONCE and once only option. I was so annoyed I left. I had gone to buy that item, it was not just a try some stuff on situation and it occurred. So not only did I not get what I went to buy, but I won't go there again.

People are using timers, because some brainiac decided that people were moving the demo signs under the floor if not rigged signs, so because of those random one off people that were not customers to begin with, everyone should suffer. If a person is moving the demo sign so as not to pay for your item, what does scripting it so they can't do that do? absolutely nothing except put off people that would have purchased.

There are so many reasons that you may need longer than someone's decided time limit for a demo. You may need to try with other items, dances and ao's as mentioned, you may want to see if it comes in colours that will go with other things in your inventory, you may want to show friends or your partner and have them help you decide...but the most important reason to not limit people on time, is that many people in Second Life have issues that may mean they need a bit more time, a bit more respect and a bit more empathy. I am lucky to be able to make the decision to just unpack another demo, or get another demo, or just leave, but for some this kind of experience can be disheartening and make them even more aware of their needs not being cared about. I hope creators consider in future if that is more important than stopping some drongo from shoving a demo sign into the floor to save 87c

I would like to have a way to sync up caspervend and the SL marketplace, that way I don't have to keep 2 inventories.

https://wiki.casperdns.com/index.php/CasperVend_2/Marketplace_Link as far as I know it has always been possible, I see this question often, so not sure why it is not clear to people that it is something you can do.

I misread the question, as in I read the first part and went straight to google, my apologies.

The Girl Next Door and Boy Next Door avatars were promoted as being created by Adam and Eve. This probably helped that store's visibility to new users years ago. They're barely visible on the mesh body and clothing market now though.

Sachi has pretty much left Second Life due to RL attention needs. But as my store is on that region I can honestly say that it did/does bring new residents to her store on the daily.

I look forward to the content that will be created for Senra because whether a customer starts out with Senra and moves on to another mesh body, it has been made clear that you can of course include Senra with other products, so Senra would just be something people include with the bodies they already make for, so the transition would be painless for them. The only "only Senra" mentioned was if you used their unpacker that you would pack them with Senra only, it did not say that that unpacker could not be one of multiple in your product, or that you could not use your own unpacker.

So all creators to have some items that include Senra would be beneficial to them as being a store a new resident may come to as the start of their fashionable journey.

The mentor  program is certainly unique. However, it was tried before and found not to work. What's different about this iteration that will make it successful?

Maybe we are older and wiser? A lot of people that are in the system have been here a long time, a lot of people turning up to help have been here a long time. Possibly the investment in doing it right this time. In the past everyone involved only had a set number of years under their belts, now that is considerably different.
We have learned along the years, we have grown as a community, we understand better now what it is like to be new, what it has been like to learn and adapt to new features. We possibly have more empathy. I personally want it to succeed, because I want people coming into Second Life now to have experiences that we have been lucky enough to have had. No one prepares you for what Second Life can be, but we can certainly try by example.

i wonder how many residents you remember after weeks or days :)  ánd what's the amount on the thousends new subscribers daily?

Depending on what you are like, you can remember a fair few people as fleeting as the moment may be in them arriving on a landing point. These are not a series of Daves and Michelles, they often have rather memorable names. If you are spending time at the Welcome Hub and greeting people, interacting even if one sided, you will tend to store those names, for at the very least, a few days.

    What ever happened to Glance?

she left a long time ago, SL was not her main job, so she let it go. There was talk of her coming back and doing a collaboration, but not sure if that happened or she is here with another name/brand. But I am so glad I still have her skins, I wear this one often, so to be able to move it over to Senra is great. I understand us oldbies have different inventories than new users, we will benefit greatly from that, as we have with BOM so far ( I love bom, I love making alpha layers etc) But this will be a great way to help new users find alternatives and maybe to be a bit more creative along the way.

  10. Busting out the Glance Skin Lana and some Pig Bodysuit and League Shorts. I totally plan on creating multiple outfits with the Senra avatar so that when at the Welcome Hub it is clear that some changes can be made and you can be ADORABLE. I did not use the included shapes, because I just wanted to alter my own.

  11. I got mine and to be honest, the waiting 7 years to benefit was not the case. I feel instantly great, my regular annual was due at the end of this month so that was going out already, and I now know i don't have to even account for that in future, it is done. So while a larger amount went out than usual, it was money I had. If you have the funds, do it.

I was ready to pull the trigger but I have questions and no answers. I have my premium account paid for the next 2 years, will they credit me for those years? I have a grandfathered stipend of 500 per week, will that remain on the lifetime premium? I may need premium plus for a few years can I pay the difference for the year I need it? Support had no answers and I was told I need to commit to $1749 or $749 before knowing the answers. That is not ok these questions should of been anticipated this is not the first time they have been asked in regard to premium and Plus.

I do not like the pressure of this, why not make it limited-time?  This is a big financial commitment, it is far more than what initial lifetime cost, it is a commitment to SL and a belief in the future. Give us some time to think and budget. Please reconsider and make this a limited-time offer for a month.

I have the stipend of 500 too I was scared of that loss also

  13. I got all worked up into a tizz, I made a ticket and then I ended up closing it when I calmed down. I am older now, I have paid premium for 17 years and had regions for 13, to not have any benefit for 7 years was too much, and that this was not even 1% of the user base that can get this made me sad, I was sad, that is not the feeling that should have happened. The idea that if i had kept the ticket and not gotten a spot, when willing to pay that, would have really upset me. One day they may offer it as an actual option, and then I will have time to decide, this was pressure, this was best bank balance wins. I had the balance, but looking that many years into the future when you have already 17 behind you, it is more beneficial to younger accounts, and why take a spot they could have. There was no incentive other than spending lots, there was no special coloured profile lol, no vanity plates to display, no SLB20 something that would have made doing it now a collectible that they could have offered different each year. no SLifer last name lol. Good luck to everyone that did a ticket, I really hope you get them, I am sorry it was a limited amount of people and not a limited amount of time, running the option for the full celebration time would have been amazing.

There's a specific group. Sure anyone who owns a group can spoof group tags (and newbies won't know how to check for that), but that's a separate issue.. .

That is another great reason for Mentors to have Last name - Mentor - so that there is no ability to impersonate a linden approved Mentor.  I would love to be Sasy MentorSL  WOOHOO a separate account though of course, not changing my real name.

I have signed up with a dedicated alt, mainly for the G profile, but also so I can fill the profile with useful information.

A dedicated Mentor last name account would be better.

I signed up as myself because they seemed to have missed the option of experience, so having that 17 years felt important, but I do hope if they do not create accounts for us that they will let me change to an old enough alt lol. Do you see how I keep commenting as though it is a done deal :P I am doing one of those visualisation, positive reinforcement tricks.

  16. I signed up, I find that I did at first balk at must use SL viewer but that does make the most sense, and it is also important for people that interact or assist people in SL to actually have more insight into the differences in viewers. Knowing the basics of differences between the two should be a course in itself, especially for content creators to understand what their customers may experience.

I do agree that the mentor accounts should be compensated in some way eventually, premium accounts etc. But my main request would be the ability to log into a designated account.

Lindens of course would know that ______ Mentor is Sasy Scarborough but when off the clock so to speak your main account should have the ability to be not on the clock, and I know from many years of SL customer service that is very important.

I wonder if it would help to have a "listed before" / "listed after" / "listed between" dates option with "save as default search criteria".

"Never show me MP entries listed before 2010."

We asked for something similar at the monthly meeting, the idea that listing dates could be visible, so that if it was listed in 2009 you know it is not mesh, if it was listed in 2013 you know it probably does not have an applier etc.

  19. I think they should include a slider to understand that the video is a length of time. For those that just go there for transaction details etc, we are going to see that video for 5 seconds possibly. For someone new to SL that is planning on joining it, it was a lot of Furry and meditation etc, and not any indication that that wasn't all it would be, it is also a huge a amount of money to outlay to even come close to that kind of SL they are advertising. They tent to grab a theme and then only cater to that theme for months at a time, when you consider the amount of content created by residents every minute in SL it is surprising that they do not just have the SL Flickr page running a slideshow 24/7 seeing as those images are moderated.

  20. I cannot believe that this is a post, I just asked this same question to a friend an hour and a half ago...citing this as the reason. "the amount of times that that helped me understand what language a person speaks as their first language i cannot even count that high, it helped me help so many customers over the years because instead of them trying so hard to speak English to me I would jump to their language and they would be so happy"

This seems like such a bizarre move, and it used to also be so fun seeing people say quirky things in there. My partner used to have as one of his language options "Sasy" because I tend to talk all over the place, and I loved that.

Edit: I just noticed this was missing because when helping a Designer with some group issues, I understood they were struggling with language so wanted to see if I could help them by translating to them instead of them trying to do so to me, and it was not there.

How would You deal with a copycat? Someone that actively searches what you are wearing, and not only buys it but wears it right away to match you. Things from hair, clothes, companions, body, head etc....

It depends on who they were to me, if they are my good friend then it is tit for tat, if I like what they buy we are usually shopping together anyway so that can happen ten times a day, then we meet up with others and tp back so they can get said same stuff. We even did a post years ago of three of us all wearing the same things because TWINSSSSSSSSSSS well I guess Triplets but you get the point.

However if this is just someone you randomly see at your home sim, interact with because of social or work circle, then you may indeed need to say something. Maybe just say that you are flattered that they emulate your style and understand your taste is superb, but you would really like to have your moment, they can wear those items tomorrow or three hours from then if you change often.

You could use bloggers as a detour. Start talking about how you love such and such bloggers style, that you wish you could keep up with their looks etc, act like she is acting with you on someone else, and see if she jumps ship and starts copying who she thinks you are fangirling.

  22. I use the inbuilt FS posestand daily and sometimes many times daily, it is used a lot by content creators to check on something you need checking on. I use it to keep myself still if I need to focus in on something rather than turning my AO off, I use it to grab gyazos if I am trying to explain something to someone etc. It would be a very good option to add to SL Viewer but again unless someone teaches people what these things are they won't know. I do not know how old I was before I learned to even rez a posestand but it was definitely not day one, and yet day two I was already working. It also took me over a month to find out that as a new resident I could have gotten new resident things like hair etc from Gurl 6 and so on, I know that is not a thing now, but SL is a huge and very steep learning curve, many of us oldbies learned together, we did that curve uphill side by side, imagine being new and just dumped into it all. We started with feet then hands then bodies then heads etc, the creators moved along with the releases, we had people informing people about what glitch pants were, how to use a transparent sock to make your flared pants not show skin, and the same with gloves and sleeves...it was not something we just had to learn solo and often I think people forget that. Unless you have a veteran in SL already it is overwhelming, I see at least once a day someone somewhere asking how to get their feet out of the floor, LL do not teach the platform before you enter and I think that they should.

    • The SL website should be more detailed on sign up, as in you do not get to just make a name pick an avatar and you are in, but you should go through a series of steps that teach you what SL really is, and while you do those steps you choose things like your name, your look, but when you choose your look you are learning what an inventory is, how to get dressed how to change your mind and detach etc all in the browser itself. You get to learn about lindens and how to buy them, how to sell them what you may need them for. That you learn about purchasing land or renting a home and the things you can and cannot do with either. It should be clear that content creators are not LL employees, how to know who you are buying from, who to contact if you have issues with an item etc.
    • The help hubs etc should be the first place you land at and they should not be fantasy looking builds that nothing in SL even looks close to. Every 5+ years they redo them and every time it is some out there look that is nothing to do with what SL residents will actually encounter and what would keep them here. They should look like the events, malls, live performance locations, LL should gather up a lot of content creators and have them set up a few items as gifts. I am aware there are free items locations, but you have to know they exist to find them, it should be at the start of your adventure into SL because once you have 50 items added to your inventory you are hooked :P.
    • I did a jira on this and mentioned it at a meeting. You should have at minimum a 7 day name change option for all new residents. People join with names that they just pull out of air in the rush to get in world, and then once they are in world they start to learn that maybe that was not the right choice...if they had the chance to change their name once in that trial period it may make for a lot less Jonno465871871's and maybe something people are not going to have to rely on a display name to change.
    • Yesterday I was bored, and I started thinking about that email we have been getting lately about what you have done in the past year, tping this many times etc. I thought wouldn't it be cool if we could actually achieve things in SL that were kind of status like things. The first that popped into mind was visiting every region, 17 years in I may have been able to achieve that by now. But there is so much out there, and yet there does not seem to be any way of knowing where you can just go, where you are allowed, what is there etc.
    • What if WORLD Map had descriptors in more than just what they show now. Search terms you could use like 'Archery" and it would list every region that someone has rezzed archery items on ( i do not know where archery came from but it seemed innocent enough) or "Horse Riding" any region that has rezzed out ridable horses, or has tracks and allows you to come with your own Horses. I would love to explore SL more, but it seems that we just go to the same places that we have been before, or that are deemed worthy of being on destination guides and so on. Giving landowners the chance to create a more appealing description than the front page of land and it to actually benefit them. It could even be added to by a system that residents could verify, such as mentioned with TPing to places no longer there, if someone misuses the terms like keywords to gain traffic, but the items do not exist then the location can be up or down voted on.
    • Another idea on achievements that could piggy back off of that world map keywords idea is a monthly Scavenger hunt. If LL provided 50 words that worked with hundreds of regions people could be tping all over the grid, finding places they have never seen before, it could be a great photo op as well, take your picture with the location etc add to a flickr pool etc.
    • Speaking of Flickr pools, the curated pictures they put on the website are pretty, I got that opportunity once myself and I was so proud, but there is a whole pool of items that could be also just shared on the website, showing SL residents doing SL things, that group is already modded, so nothing could turn SL on its ear, it would be a really engaging way to see SL through the eyes of many instead of the marketing type images that are there now and often seem so stiff they look more Sims like than SL like.

sorry for the lots and lots, but I could do this all day.
