  1. The marketplace is full of items from long ago, and from creators who may not be active anymore. Through my browsing of the marketplace I've noticed items getting poor reviews from customers not realizing they are buying an older item made of sculpties. While certain items may have been cutting edge in 2009, they're not today. I think one thing that would help would be some text telling customers when the item was added to the marketplace and when it was last updated. I realize it is likely not possible to do this retroactively to every item on the marketplace. But could it possibly be implemented for new items going forward?
  2. Same thing happened to me. Lindens taken from account, shows up in transaction history as a marketplace transaction but does not appear in my marketplace orders. Fortunately it was only a small amount, but I'm gonna do as ogidairu suggested. Hopefully it works. 🤞
  3. Couldn't gachas be redesigned to add some sort of "skill" element to them, and no longer be considered gambling? Because that's what happened to the slot machine type games. i.e. you would pay to play the machine and instead of it being just a slot machine with prizes, you have to solve a puzzle, and you are given an item based on points scored.
  4. I understand LL hands are tied and they are going along with rules and regulations of various countries. I'm not mad at them. But I enjoy gachas. Yes, it can be addictive but it’s not dangerous. It’s not like gambling in real life. I’m not gonna go into debt and take out a loan from the mafia and end up dead when I can’t pay it back over gachas. It’s pixels. You understand when you buy one, you’re gonna get a random item and there's a risk involved that it might not be one you want. It’s not abusive, exploitative, or harming anyone. It's fun in the same way when you would get a random toy from a cereal box. I also think there’s a huge difference between a small business creator in Second Life selling gachas to other adults, and some huge game corporations selling lootboxes and making millions of dollars from scamming 12 year olds who swiped their mom's credit card.
  5. From one socially awkward SL'er to another, there's a lot of things you can do in Second Life that don't involve roleplay. Photography in Second Life is a great hobby, you can even turn it into a business (shooting ads, profile photos, photo contests, etc for L$). Another is to try your hand at building things. Building lets you decide how much you want to challenge yourself. If you enjoy making things out of Lego, you'll enjoy building in Second Life. The builder community is also a really nice and helpful group of people, imo.
  6. I picked a name thats short, uncommon and sounds cute. It's a name found in Korea, China, Japan (Airi), Finland, Lappland, Ireland, Estonia, so it's kind of ethnically ambiguous and international. "Panthar" sounded best from the list of surnames that was generated. I had never heard of Gorean before joining SL so I was totally unaware the surname "Panthar" would have connotations of wild, half naked, man hating warrior babes living in the jungle. But that's cool, too lol.
  7. You can tell child avatars by the way they type in stupid baby talk. They all sound like they are 3-year-olds no matter what age their character is supposed to be. Being short, skinny or having a flat chest does not mean you're a kid. PS: Children including fake ones should be banned from the internet.
  8. When you go to wear something in your hand from your inventory, select "Add" instead of "Wear" this will let you use multiple items on the same attachment point.
  9. SL ate a linked prim earlier today of a bed I built. SL ate my pillow! The funny thing is, it still shows up in the prim count of the object. I wonder if it is a related bug.
  10. I would not involve customer service/tech support in this in any case, because I think it would only slow things down. A polite notecard to the seller always has cleared up failed deliveries for me. Imagine if every time some noob doesn't receive his freenis from the Marketplace they go bother Linden Lab about it. :matte-motes-sarcasm: As for IM's vs notecards, I check my email about once a month so that wouldn't work for me, and most businesspeople in SL seem to prefer notecards from what I've seen. I think the main issue here is that a lot of people don't know how the Marketplace works and don't realize it is subject to lag, region restarts, script timeout, etc. When they don't get their item they immediately assume they are being ripped off and use the reviews to vent their frustrations. The person who left me a 1-star review bought the item, didn't receive it, so they bought it again. Never contacted me by notecard or IM - not even to yell at me, then left a nasty review. I ended up giving her a full refund for both purchases and sending her the item for free. What really threw me for a loop is this person is a seller on the Martketplace herself so she should know better.
  11. You shouldn't use the review section of a Marketplace listing to leave a 1-star review to complain about items that didn't get delivered. I see this all over SL Marketplace and I had it in my own store too. This is abusive behavior. People will surf the Marketplace, see that an item has a 1-star review and decide the product is crap. You should only review things after you receive them! It is frustrating to not receive your item, but 99.9% of the time it is a delivery malfunction, it's not like the seller is deliberately trying to rip you off. You have every right to be frustrated, but that is not an excuse to be vindictive toward the sellers on the Marketplace. If you don't get your item you have to contact the store owner via notecard (don't use IM- IMs get capped, notecards do not) and include your transaction details (date of purchase, name of items, and your name). Marketplace sellers have no idea if there is a malfunction in deliveries unless you notify them. Yes it can be a pain in the butt if you ordered things from 10 different sellers but it's the only way it can be resolved.
  12. I have seen people selling HUDs that allow one to rez things on no-rez lands, maybe the thieves used that. I can't see any legitimate use for an item like that. I hope they fix the loophole quickly. :matte-motes-stress:
  13. Sorry you got ripped off but those hairs look way too nice for someone to be selling them FP for only 250L$ each, it doesn't look even remotely legit.
  14. Marketplace is good, think of this: what if you sell 95% PG-rated items but your physical store is in a M-rated sim? Then without a Marketplace shop you miss out on business from people who cannot get to an M sim because they aren't old enough or just aren't age verified. Also, a lot of new builders & designers cannot afford to rent a full size physical shop yet or simply don't have enough products to fill a shop space. The Marketplace allows to build up a customer base and earn some money so they can expand in-world. They get experience with customers and feedback on their products without a huge investment like buying or renting land.
  15. I used this to choose names for various things including SL: http://www.behindthename.com/ You can search by nationality and by keywords in meaning, etc.
  16. Mother Goose's upstairs shop is all young looking guys, with Caucasian and East Asian faces. They are good skins for guys who don't want to look like professional wrestlers. Other than that I'm not sure, I don't dress as a male too often. :matte-motes-bashful-cute-2:
  17. The featured items can sometimes be low rated because it's just sellers paying to have their item featured. The rating has nothing to do whether something is featured or not. If something has 5 stars it has a lot of positive reviews and no or very few negative ones. So I always look at ratings and reviews, not featured status.
  18. This weird stuff happened when i crashed
  19. Thank you for asking this I was concerned about it as well. I get this error whenever I click ALT+G (which I do because my keyboard is not mapped like an American one). I'm glad it's nothing to be worried about.
  20. Mother Goose's has nice guy skins (upstairs) that are not so muscled, they are more like young man/teen skins, though. Their prices are very good. They have a few guy skin on their lucky boards, too.
  21. If you are stuck as a cloud, change your hairbase (the system hair that forms your eyebrow shape. Create a new one and wear it, your avatar will appear. If your avatar is greyed out or just not appearing normally (clothes not showing up), try the Character Test. This will turn you into a newbie avatar, it's good when you're stuck as a cloud too. In Phoenix viewer it's in Advanced (Ctrl+Alt+D), Character > Character Tests > Test Female or Test Male. In Viewer 2 it is under the Advanced Develop Menu (Ctrl+Alt+Q) under Avatar > Character Tests > Test Female or Test Male. You will show up as the newbie avatar, after which you can change your outfit and your clothes and skin should rez normally (takes a few mins and some rebakes for me). If you have problems still, another trick I use is to log into another viewer, then log back into my regular viewer and that sometimes does the trick. Rez issues drive me nuts on a daily basis, this is the best advice I have. If someone else knows what is causing all of this I'd love to hear more. Good luck.
  22. Amy, I agree with you. Even with realistic skins it's not real nudity and according to the TOS everyone has to be at least 16 to join SL. We're all adults or young adults here, I don't think seeing pixel boobies and prim peeners is gonna traumatize anyone.
  23. I was at Hair Fair a few days ago, the lag was not as bad as I thought it would be. I wore a PG mannequin skin and nothing else. Aside from a few self-centered fashionistas, most people there were also ditching their AOs, accessories, 500 prim shoes, etc and wearing either no or low prims, but I did see one person there who had an arc of over 16,000 (elaborate hair and dress with a million scripts, WHY do people even wear a hair to Hair Fair anyway since you're just going to be trying on hair? LOL). The good news is there are free low lag outfits provided at the Hair Fair for people to wear while they are shopping and I saw alot of people making use of it. There was lag but it wasn't the most laggy event I've been to.
  24. Elisaisabel, I send you one of my shapes 'Mei' that is modifiable. :matte-motes-grin: When I make shapes not based on anyone in particular I look for pictures on Google Images of different 'races' of people- as many individuals as I can to get a very general idea of features and proportions (which vary a lot of course, theres not one 'look' for an entire country or ethnic group). If you have a Japanese movie star or model you want to look like, look for front and side pics of that person and play around with the different head and face toggles, then (imo) do the body settings last. It takes patience to get it right. Should you pay 4000L for a shape? No, you shouldn't. Anyone with some patience can make a shape that looks nice. Also, this might be of interest, there's some artist tutorials for drawing different ethnicities by Cedarseed: http://cedarseed.deviantart.com/art/Guide-to-Human-Types-part-1-32046017 http://cedarseed.deviantart.com/art/Guide-to-Human-Types-part-2-33220929 http://cedarseed.deviantart.com/art/Guide-to-Human-Types-part-3-34877428 http://cedarseed.deviantart.com/art/Guide-to-Human-Types-Addendum-33097648 (Click on "Download Image" to see the tutorial) Making an avatar shape is different from drawing of course but there's some good general info there.
  25. This happens to me now every day, either I show up nude to everyone or have half rezzed, half not. Sometimes just the jacket layer will rez while the rest won't. It happens regardless of what viewer I use (I usually use Phoenix viewer). To fix it here is my routine: Clear cache while logged into SL, log out, clear cache while logged off, restart the viewer, set my starting location to Pooley, log in, go to Advanced > Character > Character test female, become a noobie avatar, then detatch and remove all clothing and change into my skin/shape/outfit I want to wear, rebake like 100 times, Autoderuth like 100 times and tp somewhere else and eventually I get my appearance the way I want it. :matte-motes-sour: It's weird my friend also use the same viewer as I do and her clothes show up right away. Go figure! This is a huge problem for a lot of people, everyone should be able to put on their clothes and have it show up right away. I wish they would do something about this.
