  1. As a manager for Catwa, I know exactly how many people picked up the Queen head during that offer. I'm not going to share how many, but you - and many creators out there - would probably be very very surprised at just how many it was. 'Huge potential sales market' doesn't even cover it.
  2. Discord links only expire if you don't specifically set them not to. You can edit them to never expire, so they can be added to HUDs as links (we have the link to the Catwa Discord server on the HDPRO HUDs' settings tab, for example).
  3. The reason why Genus skins etc fit fairly well on HDPRO heads is that the UV map for Genus heads has always been close to the standard SLUV, whereas the UV map for Catwa's pre-HDPRO heads was not (try a Genus BoM skin on one of those heads and it's going to look all kinds of 'off' in multiple areas). With HDPRO Catwa changed the UV map to be more in line with the standard SLUV.
  4. Curated by my fellow Catwa CSR, Majer (who the head is named after) - https://www.flickr.com/photos/mjbella/galleries/72157716173821608/ We also have a Discord server (link can be found on your HDPRO Style HUD) where Designers post, and we also post our own finds.
  5. The link goes to his blog. Credits will likely be on the blog post.
  6. Shape creators who use FaceApp on their vendor ads. Don't. Please, just... don't. It doesn't matter which brand of head your shape is created for; even the most advanced SL mesh head with the most complex animations and rigging simply cannot replicate a smile like that big, beaming FaceApp smile*, and you are causing no bloody end of hassle for the support people in those mesh head groups who have to deal with customers demanding to know why their head can't smile like that, "because it was in the shape ad!!!" The same thing goes for skin creators, makeup creators, and facial hair creators. Using FaceApp on your ads is misrepresenting the product that your creation is intended for. *Caveat: Something vaguely close to it could potentially be done with a special shape, a lot of slider work, and specific animations, but it would be Uncanny Valley at the least, and you would be walking around like that all the time, as much of the work would need to be done with shape sliders. For just a smile that you click an animation HUD button to get for a few seconds? Forget it.
  7. One of the most disheartening things encountered by those of us who provide brand-specific mesh head and body support is the one-day-old avatar who manages to make it into our support chat after some 'helpful' resident has told them they 'must' get X mesh head and Y mesh body, gives them a couple of LMs, and leaves them to it. So the newb dutifully goes off and buys both of those things without understanding what they are, how to use them, and that there are free demos. Right off the bat, they're being told to do something so complicated that even people who have been here for many years can initially struggle with it. Never mind running before they can walk; they're being told to construct a rocket ship before they're even able to lift their head and crawl. Sometimes we get calls for help from residents who have tried to assist these hapless newbs but who have realised said newb doesn't even know how to unpack things. They get them past the SL 101 point of accessing inventory and rezzing boxes, and then have to deal with getting them to understand words we're all familiar with: skin, shape, BoM, HUD, apply, etc. They use this SL jargon instinctively without realising it, and then it slowly dawns that the newb has no clue what they're on about. I'm pretty sure that's when the helper's heart begins to sink... I've had people in my IM begging me to take over their 'pet newb project' because they've been at this for hours and still haven't got them further along than having a mess of unpacked folders in their inventory (often the same thing unpacked multiple times), then the newb deletes everything so they can start all over again (often deleting the original boxes, which necessitates going back to the store and explaining how to redeliver, and what redelivery is, and why each store can handle redelivery in a different way, etc etc). This happens with alarming frequency, and I have personally spent entire afternoons and evenings hand-holding one person in a full SL 101 that does eventually at least end up with them happy with how they look, and with some knowledge about how to rez things, add HUDs, customise their avatar in general, and any other additional tips that I've felt could be snuck in alongside the avatar advice without overwhelming them. On the occasions when I've done that, when someone is willing to take the time and do the work, those are the times when I'm pretty sure they'll stick around. Because - as mentioned earlier in the thread - someone took hours out of their day to help them, even if it was more with the specifics of one particular aspect of SL. I usually get profuse thanks from those people and I try to leave them with some basic advice for handling SL in general. More often than not, though, the hapless newb is already mentally exhausted by the time their helper hands them over to me, and after an hour or so they tell me they're tired and will go to bed. I encourage them to sleep on it and - if they feel up to it - to log back in tomorrow with a fresh head, and contact me if they need to. I never hear back from those people.
  8. The pictures load for me, but they're simply images from multiple angles of what Elfina's avatar looks like, so I think they have misunderstood Rowan's request for a picture of worn items. @Elfina01 could you please open your inventory, go into the 'Worn' tab, click to expand all of the folders there (so we can see each object and layer in every folder) and post a screenshot of that expanded 'worn' tab in this thread.
  9. It helps to read the reviews. There are only three for this body, and the creator responded to the first one with the following: (Incidentally, a thread such as this really belongs in Your Avatar - which is primarily about customing your avatar - rather than in General Discussion.)
  10. I suspect the HUD is managed and automatically added by an accepted Experience. Have her check her list of Experiences, and remove any that look like they could be a Welcome Island one.
  11. I haven't seen 'eyes on stalks' like that since the early days of Bento, when people using non-Bento viewers would see those wearing Bento heads looking that way. However, since pretty much every viewer now supports Bento (and you've said it's only just started happening, thus it appears to have been fine until recently) that's not going to be the case here. (You'd also be seeing about 90% of the rest of the grid looking like nightmare fuel, too!) The running animation on the left eyeball is a concern, as I suspect that may be behind it. Is there a name listed for the animation? A quick scroll through the instructions that you posted shows something about an 'animations applier' which explains how to add animation files to the avatar and activate and de-activate them via local chat commands. If the below suggestions don't work, I'd suggest re-reading the notecard with particular attention to that section, and try some experiments there, as well as the custom expressions section above it. Try some of the chat commands in section 7 of the notecard, too, such as /17 jawtalk off etc, to see if those stop it. Did you also check your list of accepted Experiences? One of those may be animating you. Are you wearing any additional HUDs that could be possibly animating you, such as a gesture HUD, AO HUD, or an animation HUD for another bento item such as a mesh head or any other form of mesh body part that includes animation options? This may be pushed off-screen, so double check for that. If you're using any viewer other than the stock Linden Lab client, install and test using that one as well. If it's fine on the LL client, go straight to the settings.xml fix at the bottom of my post. Of crucial importance: do others see your avatar distorted like this, or only you? If only you are seeing it, there are a couple more things to try. These are fixes we suggest in the Catwa support group when people are having rezzing issues with their heads that are local to only them, although I'm not sure how useful they will be here. 1. Power-cycle your router by switching it off and unplugging it from the wall socket for at least a minute. Then plug back in and power on again. This is more of a fix for a head with sections missing from it, but it's worth a try before you move on to the slightly more drastic measure, which is... 2. Delete your settings.xml file and allow the viewer to rebuild a fresh one. Instructions below: CAUTION: This will reset your toolbar buttons and will remove from your screen some UI items related to the toolbar buttons (e.g. minimap, cameratools, etc). It may also reset some graphics settings, so you will need to reset all of those after logging back in. Copy & paste these instructions into a text file to refer to. - 1. Open preferences > network & files > directories - 2. Click the 'open settings folder' button - 3. Keep that folder open and log out of SL - 4. Stay logged out. Look in that settings folder for the settings.xml file and delete it - 5. Log back into SL (a new settings.xml file will be created) - 6. Set your toolbar buttons and UI items back up
  12. That looks somewhat like the neck issue that occurs with Belleza Jake under a certain lighting condition. Do you have ALM enabled but shadows set to 'none', by any chance? If so, try setting them to 'sun and moon' and see if that helps.
  13. And a large majority of those people are non-premium accounts. Tell me where they are going to get help that is specific to their particular query? The official SL Knowledgebase doesn't cover things like how to fix neck seams between different heads and bodies, how to correct specific issues with fixing up specific combinations of heads and bodies, how to work with BoM (outside of the absolute basics on the KB), where to find a specific dev kit, how to fix a thorny scripting error, how to optimise a particular mesh creation made in this specific program, where to find this item I saw on someone inworld and only got a quick snapshot of, what's behind this particular rezzing error message, why is my avatar an orange cloud, as well as all the myriad and general panics that some users - particularly newbies, who are usually the least likely to be premium accounts - can have and need help with. The KB - while an excellent resource - primarily covers the general workings and functions of SL itself. For the complexities - and those are manifold - of Second Life, it's the resident userbase - both basic and premium - that is Linden Lab's most valuable asset. There is a tremendous wealth of knowledge in the userbase, and that wealth is not limited only to premium users. Known trolls - the really bad ones who do things such as posting obscene images, or doxxing other forum members - have their posts removed and their accounts banned. We had a spate of these last year, and all of them were removed very quickly; within a couple of hours of reports going in. The more subtle trolls - the kind who create and/or participate in inflammatory threads - usually end up with their threads (and their most inflammatory posts) hidden away from public view in a Moderator-only graveyard. Ever viewed someone's profile here on the forum, seen that they have (for example) 200 posts and yet only 180 of them are visible when you view their activity? Those 20 'missing' posts will never be seen by the general public, as they're locked away for moderator viewing only (and it's very likely that a moderator will check that hidden section of the forum for 'past history' if it came to considering future sanction). As to how to deter a basic account here, there are already processes in place for that, and those processes make it bloody difficult for those of us who do try to offer help in here. Someone who is new to the forum can only make 6 posts per day (including PMs), for example. Do you have any idea how hard it is to help someone who is limited like that, when it can take 5 of those 6 posts just to help them understand what information you need from them in order to be able to help them? And you would take even that away from them. I am a premium account. I have been premium for the entirety of my 14 years in SL. If you want to talk about money invested into this platform, I have invested tens of thousands (probably hundreds of thousands by now; I try not to think about the actual amount too much), having paid tier on more than one region for many years. And yet here I am - someone who has invested probably enough to buy a really nice sports car, or put down a decent deposit on a new home, telling you that NO, I do not want this forum limited only to some 'elite' group of paying customers. Given that the general userbase does not have edit rights to the KB at all, the output would likely be a lot of confused faces.
  14. There have been innumerable valuable contributions to this forum by those who do not have premium accounts. Likewise, there has been plenty of valueless drivel posted on the forum by some who have premium accounts. The value of one's contribution to a community should not be equated to the value of one's contributions to its coffers.
  15. Or perhaps the writer hasn't been able to afford more mesh bodies yet? Not everyone who writes guides and websites like that gets everything for free.
  16. Please expand the entire Worn tab of your inventory and post a screenshot here. We should be able to point out what's causing it if we can see everything you're wearing.
  17. I like it, as an idea for new (under 30 days) residents. Some of Coffee's suggestions might be enough to get people hooked on things that brought some of us longer-term residents into SL: building, scripting, exploring, etc. If the time spent and experiences had while hunting down a few achievements is enough to show them what else SL has to offer - to the point of them deciding to stick around - then what's the harm in it? If they don't like it, they'll leave. Same as they do now. Again, no harm done. Some people like collecting things. I've managed to collect a 220,000+ inventory over 14 years, after all... (Also, my post got laughed at by Solar? I'VE FINALLY ARRIVED!)
  18. You are wearing the HUD correctly but also wearing the boxed older V5.2 version of Lara. That's what the bag is. You don't need that version. Right-click on Maitreya Mesh Body - Lara V5.2 and detach it. You can right-click the bag itself that you're holding if you want, and detach from there Expand your entire Worn folder (click the Expand button at the top) and detach everything from the old V4.1 Maitreya body that you're still wearing Go into the Maitreya folder for the new V5.3 version you redelivered, right-click on each of the items I've highlighted in the image below, and select ADD from the menu (don't select WEAR; always select ADD) When you've done that, post back here and let us know how you got on.
  19. You should see the Maitreya body in the redelivery list. Ignore anything about store credit; it's redelivery that you want. Click the link and it will be redelivered to you. The redelivery button on the Maitreya HUD was only added in v5.0, and - in addition - the hands and feet were attached to the body in that version as well.
  20. Another reason why this can happen is that you're trying to rez it at a bit of a distance (even a short distance) and the 'line of sight' of it is going onto a neighbouring parcel. Before rezzing anything I always hit CTRL+3 to bring up the edit window, and angle my camera downwards to the floor. If I ever forget to do that, I often get that message, especially if I'm rezzing close to the boundary of my parcel.
  21. To those of you shooting this down in flames because it's silly and nobody is interested in badges and suchlike: How long did it take once you hit 500 posts on this forum before you changed your forum title?
  22. The 'failed to find body part' error always refers to one of the four main system body parts, which cannot be removed; they can only be replaced. These parts are: system shape system hairbase (commonly known now as a brow-shaper) system skin system eyes The inventory icons look like this in Firestorm: And like this in the stock Linden viewer: When one of these is not worn by an avatar, that avatar will not rez, and thus you see the orange cloud. To fix it, check to see which one of those might be missing from the 'Worn' tab of your inventory, then hunt down another one that you may have and wear that one. You can also use one of the default avatars to reset yourself and start dressing again from there. This page on the Firestorm wiki gives more information, including a few other reasons why the error may occur, if the above doesn't sort it out.
  23. Some corrections: Absolut Creations Adam (male) Eve (female) EveBoy (andro) Inithium Kupra (female) Kups (female) ABAR (brand = eBody) eBody Classic (female) eBody Curvy (female) MeshBody (brand = Legacy) Classic (female) Classic (male) Legacy (female) Legacy (male) Perky (female) Pregnancy (female) Athletic (male) Maitreya Lara (female) Petite (small breast augment for Lara) Flat (flat chest augment for Lara) Signature Alice (female) Gianni (male) Geralt (male) Slink Physique (female) Physique (male) Hourglass (female) Petite (small breast augments for Slink female bodies) Homme (flat chest augments for Slink female bodies) Genus do not make bodies, only heads. Inithium do not make eBody; they make Kupra and Kups. (They may have others newly released; I don't keep up with female bodies as much as I do the male ones.) Legacy do not make Alice and Gianni; those are Signature bodies. TMP bodies are no longer sold as-is, but clothing rigged for them usually fits the male and female Legacy 'Classic' L$1 bodies.
  24. All of this I'm Spartacus "we're all Lindens" means we should be able to collectively lock this thread and throw the OP into the Cornfield, right? Linden = God powers, after all. Can we do that? No? Wonder what we can extrapolate from that...
  25. In addition, make sure that your browser allows pop-ups from that site. It's been a while since I needed to use Live Chat, but I'm fairly certain I recall the chat being in a popup window. Usually your browser will alert you that the tab is trying to open a popup, so ensure that you click 'yes' to that.
