The Second Life Roller Derby Association presents the.. DV8 Dreadnoughts vs. iKandy Jawbreakers In a good old fashioned knee's up Roller Derby bout! The bout is a friendly and is the pre-cursor of the second season of SLRDA Roller Derby, the SLRDA Championships 2012. Come and see how the game is played for yourself and witness beautiful Roller Derby Girls skate and scramble on the rink! You've not seen anything like this in SL before... the only way to see it, is to be there LIVE at 6pm SLT.

I think you've made the most viable point of all this. The intrusiveness of facebook and programs like it. Ive spoken to many residents who; not only have a facebook for their avatars but also a RL one as well. And their main concern is the two linking.
The beauty of a virtual world such as SL is that it presents an opportunity to delve into a part of yourself that you may not want publicly plastered on front pages. Say a teacher in a small, conservative town wanted to become a female roller derby player. In RL, most likely in that small town he would be ostracizes and might fear repercussions from the community regarding his profession. SL has provided an outlet for people to live out..and ultimately create endless possibilities without fear of prosecution. SL is the answer to the question; What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail?
Facebook and programs like that, that link and track and update your every move are the biggest threat to a world with endless possibilities. As adults with children, we of course friend them to keep tabs on their goings on. But do they really need to be updated that dad just visited an explicit virtual sim? Or mom sends a shout out from an all male virtual review?
The problem is, SL for so many is the seedy side of themselves they wouldn't share with everyday people. The underbelly of it all is that we are animals, and worlds like SL allow us to shed our skin and indulge in being the creatures we truly are. Its a freedom real life rarely affords.
Ive read a lot of what you all wrote here..and you're all a lot more eloquent and knowledgeable than I am by far. This is just my rant on how I view this whole thing. Please excuse my rant, as I rarely make sense to anyone but myself. I just feel its all so intrusive, and yes facebook..If I had wanted to speak to someone I hadn't seen in ten years; you would be the last people I would use to contact that person. Facebook is the epitome of self-centered indulgence harboring on Andy Warhal's 15 minutes of fame idea. But I counter with..Just because you all know I wiped my ass in the Denny's on Main St. USA doesn't make me any more famous. It just makes my ass clean.

Awesome!!! You'll find that Psych0 Starship, creater and founder of Second Life Roller Derby has kept it very true to its RL rules and regulations. We're currently gearing up for our second season with five teams getting ready for qualifiers. But teams are still recruiting new blood. Its not only an amazing sport in SL...its an amazing community of people. I totally love my SLRDA family!!!

With anything in sl when theres a large group of people lag can be a factor. We do ask our fans to descript as much as possible and our skaters are trained to wear as little scripts as possible, most not wearing more than the slrda hud itself.
So yes lag is an issue, but we work through it. its one of the main reasons we dont disclose the bout areas for derby to the fans until an hour before. it takes the girls a while to settle in and let the lag die down. Then when fans arrive it usually takes about 20 minutes for the sim to settle in.
One other thing we di to keep the lag down is keep our sims where our tracks are as script free as possible. most rinks have script meters for people there and strict no scripts on the land on bout days.
So to answer your question..yes we have lag, but we also have over 200 members that keep coming back for more of the awesome SLRDA derby girls! You should come and check out a practice sometime!!!

Roller Derby is predominantly a female sport where two teams of five girls on roller skates battle for points on the track with the aggression of hockey minus the padding. In SL, Roller Derby is a face paced hud based sport that allows for in world gaming at its' best.
Psych0 Starship, creator of Roller Derby in SL has not only brought all the RL action and Lifestyle of Womens Roller Derby to SL. But what he has also done is create a community. The Derby Girls of SLRDA come from all walks of life and experience levels that meet on the track to battle it out.

Im super excited to announce Second Life Roller Derby Associations' '12 Season Opener Bout.
On Deck is the Dream Team Brawlers v. The Dream Team Knockouts!!! These teams are Captained by our very own SLRDA Hall of Fame members Darling Scribe and MizDeMeanor Morpork!!!
We invite the entire SL community to come out and watch what looks to be one killer roller derby Match. Captaining for the Knockouts is Darling Scribe, Head Captain of the Psych0 Riot B*tches. She led her team to the '11 Championships. And up against her is MizDeMeaner Morpork, a Co-Captain of the PRB's.
This bout pits blocker against blocker in an all out knock down jam. Its not one to miss.
