  1. Unfortunately with laptops and netbooks the graphics will be soldered into place and not upgradable. You can get a USB WiFi transmitter, there are some high power ones, but to be perfectly honest you are throwing good money after bad. The money you *waste* on trying to improve a meer network could be put towards a second hand 2 year old laptop and give you far better value. Possibly check amazon.com using the price filters as they have a few second hand PCs and Laptops. Also consider talking to your local friendly computer store for their advice. (Double check it unless you know them) Don't waste your time with the netbook, plan anouther route is the best way I can advise.

They are mean as heck over their property and go after people who 'steal' it in a very vicious way. As to why your's was flagged and there are others that were not, © Disney have not seen it yet. Please, log into the SL website and do the Mesh test in your account area. It explains a lot. Mickey Mouse ©, Minnie Mouse ©, Goofy ©, Pluto © and allt he rest are not your property to use. They belong to © Disney and they have the sole rights to decide who and how these characters are used. It's a multi billion dollar property, 11 Billion a year when I was there.

Further, I think punishment is an issue. When you crash a server and get a slap on the wrist IP ban, there's nothing stopping you from coming back and doing it over and over. How would ban these people? If the ID0, MAC/IP, MD5 on UUID and Name packets, and 60 second stat packets are not enough, and especially if the object logs and IM logs LL keep for everyone (you do know LL record everything said in IM and keep who owned an object forever don't you?) are not enough to trace things to their source... how do you propose they are stopped? LL have had 10 years of greifer hunting experience and while they can easily cull off 90% with those and a few other really clever counter measures I won't mention, this will ALWAYS be an arms race. As LL develop a new countermeasure the griefer will develop a new attack... because this is their game and what they do for fun. Fix the exploits I hear you say before I even hit enter on this.... impossible in reality, even banks can be hacked. The only solution is for you to abandon mainland and get some covenant based land away from the griefers.

The real life child being near furniture used for sexual purposes IS not the issue, the real life child seeing the furniture used for sexual purposes IS not the issue, the real life child even being in a store that sells furniture for sexual purposes IS not the issue. There are no kids here. You are not a kid, I am not a kid. The whole community including Marion are not kids. Basically OP, safe sign or not, it's natural. If you can't live with it, stop being a child/parent/busybody and play a furry to experience beastiality or a Gorean to experience slavery and mysogony instead. Much more wholesome and acceptable communities compared to an SL child being in the same region as a pose ball. >.> Yeh, this whole "omg, think of the children, sex beds in the zone" rubbish annoys me no end.
  5. You have used the incorrect attributive adjective in terms of your "skill" and used an adjective not a verb to describe what might happen if we don't rent your property tout de suite Hang on... rent? Looks up at the title of the forum looks back at you Looks up at the title of the forum looks back at you I bet you wish this forum was the rental forum But sadly, it's not.
  6. Meh. Everyone does it, everyone sighs.
  7. I actually like it, but my concern is that these 'artists' are using copyrighted works to slap your face onto.

KEVP314 wrote: Okay people, from my experiences with my various alts in SL, and from reading this forum, I think I may be able to suggest a working hypothesis about what the object of the game is. It's a social platform to allow people the ability to meet and talk with others that they otherwise couldn't. It's an escape. It would be nice if people cared about others in the 'game' and in real life, unfortunately not. People generally only care about themselves. Have you ever considered just how many people with Autism, Cancer, No legs, Deaf, Blind, Old (as in 70s and over), people with mental illness 'play'? Have you ever asked yourself why so many 'disadvantaged'? Nice thought though. If only people were more considerate of others and not being 7 foot blond haired, blue eyed models or caring about what other people were doing in their 'private' bedroom the world would be a nicer place. Myself I try to care about others, but it costs me dearly with the intense hate some people are filled with, especially against my community in the game. Some of the things that have been said People are just down right nasty. Namiste.
  9. You do not want secondary auth, you want 2 factor authentication. A litle keychain device that gives you a unique 6 digit code to type in every minute. Or a smartphone app that gives you a unique 8 digit code to type in each minute. If you phrased your initial point without the TPV and griefer rubbish and just mentioned, hey my account is linked to my credit card. I am able to buy lindens, and sell them for cash. It would make sense to offer us two factor authentication to help reduce that danger should anyone ever guess my password is 12345 or maybe phish me. You would get a far more positive response. Drop the TPV hate it's irrelevent to this discussion, go to the real thing you want without that clouding your words. Optional two factor authentication is good and I would love the lab to include the option to use it. Especially now as smartphones can be used to generate the unique number. Now what that has to do with "the risk of using TPVs" is beyond me. After all, a person using Linden Lab's official viewer is just as likely to fall for that phishing email that says: Dear Resident, We notices that an attempt to access your account was made from recently China. As a safeguard of your protection we have locked your account. To remove this lock please visit http://this.is.not.a.hacking.link.com/to/steal/your/moneys/you/canm/trust/us and enter your Username, Password and full credit card number, date of birth and passpaort number. 10. The safe sign is not recognised by the lab, it is a very old kid initiative (SL4B) that most kids ignore or never knew of.

Maybe this needs a guy's kind word... but how to say it constructively? In fact how can a guy ever correctly answer that perrinial question from their girl: "Does this make my bottom look fat?" I guess, to state this diplomatically, you should consider that your look is so uniquely beautiful that you don't need to fake your beauty with cosmetic enhancements that are sometimes used in the real world, things like botox or collogen injections for the lips. Your lips are surely striking like that, unfortunately they draw our gaze away from the rest of your beautiful features, so toning them down a little and also making them look like you are not nomming a banana might help gentlemen focus on your pretty blue eyes. To put it another way, your beauty is timeless, and unlike the Japanese lady in the following ad you do not need to make that shape with your lips to reduce your wrinkles and sagging cheeks. (I spoilered this G Rated ad so people don't spit their coffee at the monitors, put that cup down nao!) The Japanese have an interesting ad; To assist people who can't read Japanese the translation of that G rated ad is: “Fight wrinkles around your eyes and help shape the overall look of your face, whether in front of the mirror, in the bath or at any other convenient time every day. The movements are given extra load by the mold, forcing everything to work a bit harder and resulting in more youthful, vibrant faces. Just three minutes per day is all you need; pop in the mold and then make mouth movements. The makers recommend you say vowel sounds out loud over and over again, producing regular and methodical exercises that will strength the twelve facial expression muscles in a comprehensive way.”
  12. You probably need to update or install libstdc++6
  13. Don't be disheartened by those comments. You have a unique and interesting look that strikes me mostly as a kind but overworked teacher. The other thought that popped into my head was a scientist's assistant who is probably deeply in love with her superior but rather addled and scatterbrained in manner, probably doing things like handing him the wrong things when he asks. I could though imagine that this is the look a housewife has after cleaning a particular dirty oven. Probably green rubber gloves for that one to override the frazzled teacher image. At least you are /not/ a cookie cutter 7 foot blond and buxxom model with bling heels. Kudos for seeking something more real. Definitely a Blake. Me, I see a crotchety, probably very cranky woman. A woman who likely does not accept others, probably complains about the local kids making a rukus in the allery or any noise at all. I see a person who is not pleasant to the average person and is probably not very approachable either. I do not see someone named anything remotely feminine, or kind in nature. Prokofy Neva ?
  14. Another thing I found which clears the problem for a short time for me is toggling classic clouds. Turn it off, open preferences, turn it back on and the problem goes for a short time. I do know it's an issue in how LL use Vertex Buffers on the nVidia with mesh objects, in some cases when the bug is active it really hits OpenGL hard the whole PC crawloing to slowness. For all this time I've been running singularity in debug mode working closely with a developer as we try and track it down together. I get about 2 per 8 hour play time on average. It's hard to find the cause though, what it does highlight is workarounds. However these workarounds are temporary and the problem returns faster and faster each time until you are forced to log out. I am chasing a suspect that it's when a panel (like the invetory window) is open and you move the camera. This is only a felling in my mind though, I'm not 100% sure. (( Hmms and considers turning on Inu's recent opaque windows patch )) Anyway, I am not giving up as I hate this bug, and the two work arounds I have found so far; altering the UI size on the general tab and also toggling classic clouds for me at least remove the problem for a little while. It's likely that these are resetting the Vertex Buffers and thus remove the problem for a little. I need to pounce Siana one day and ask their thoughts. Edit: this code of the Linden's is fragile, recursive horror. We took a break from this problem last night to track down the llwindow:makeActive() assert bug (we call it the seagull bug) that makes us assert (crash with a continue question) every single teleport home. >.< But we have found an object in world to trigger it that we now have in our own region.... Hmm I digress. The Lindens responsible for the graphics drawing have used black magic and obviously sacrificed a prim baby to cobble this chunk of horror of vertex buffers that causes our FPS lag together.
  15. I am narrowing in on this bug, but it's annoying. I have found two causes, but it's a pain witout having a place I can 100% cause it, I wonder if you could tell me if you run your UI resolution > 1.00, as I have found one cause of this mesh slowdown of FPS is a problem redrawing the UI when certain occlusion specifications are met. You would know quite quickly, setting the UI back 1 while in slowdown mode will see your speed increase fairly fast, within 120 seconds you would be back at full speed. You don't even need to restart. The other bug is trickier, it's in the occlusion callbacks. I would have this solved in Singularity quite quickly if I had a place I could see the fault in 100%. Oh well, it's on my list of things tolook at when it does happen.
  16. One of the nice things that putting out a sim monitor can do is actually provide some hard and fast facts on reboots/crashes rather than just gut feelings. With some hard and fast numbers it's far easier to get help. I normally just rez the simple 1 prim monitor inside the emDash. It's proved very handy on many occasions. But generally, the facts i see show my regions are running exactly as expected, the email from last night on one of them telling me: Received: from sim257x.agni.lindenlab.com (sim257x.agni.lindenlab.com. [216.82.1.2xx]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id r7si22240813oej.34.2013.05.29.06.35.11 (version=TLSv1 cipher=RC4-SHA bits=128/128); Wed, 29 May 2013 06:35:12 -0700 (PDT)
  17. Most other windows only games use DirectX to render the Graphics, Secondlife uses OpenGL. It's likely to be a clash between the two different rendering systems trying to play nice and failing in a big way. It's very unlikely in my opinion (which doesn't count for much) that getting a graphics card with more RAM would work. You may have luck in Windowed and not full screen mode, but even then I wouldn't recommend it (I actually doubt it would work very well either)
  18. If you see textures repeatedly downloading, try increasing cache size. Max cache size is 10gb. The setting is in Preferences->Advanced. You really don't want to do this. When you cache fills the game will basically stop and every single file in your cache will be last access date/time checked to work out the oldest 10% (I think it is) which are then deleted. Your cache size should be just enough to store the region you are in/based on your draw distance, and not much more. As long as you are not shopping in the region called "Furniture", then you should be ok with 512 or 1024MB. I also am not sure about thrashing as being the true cause. Inside a minimal room it should not happen. A 180 degree turn could never need to rewrite the entire 512MB of VRAM. Plus there are those weird textures that the SL viewer shows that flash in and out of focus over and over without you even moving your camera. More likely to be a corrupted cache, or one that is set over 512MB or 1024MB in my view. The game just can't keep up with the sheer amount of cruft in your cache file.
  19. I used to get this a lot, I'm not associated with the team, but for the last month or so I've been sitting next to a singularity developer watching them work, and then using the freshly changed program myself. Yay for being a pre-alpha crash test dummy! Recent changes (now in the public accessable alpha version) seem to have removed it, but I am not 100% sure. It was always a weird bug to reproduce inside a mesh building, very noticable, for me my frame rate dropping from 30 to 4. Also nvidia, but on Linux 64 bit. So, the fix, if it is a fix (and I don't know yet), won't be of much use to you until the Lab do something similar or you move to the latest Singu alpha and are prepared for alpha breakage and the bleeding edge of viewers. But there are a couple things with the cache size and also the bandwidth settings that may assist you a little. Firstly, it looks like the Lab throttle our bandwidth. If you exceed what they throttle at you will get some nasty pauses as the servers punish you for asking for too much. In singu pre-alpha I run 1990 on both bandwidth sliders and it seems work well and blazingly fast, but for other viewers under 2000 and then reducing would be a good guide. <tinfoil hat>Mind you it's possible LL do this on purpose to make their spaghetti mess viewer look artifically better and only the LL viewer can increase while all TPVs are capped</tinfoil hat> Secondly is the cache is shockingly bad. Like really, really bad. Designed by monkeys bad. In fact it's so bad that baby kittens die every time it gets full. That's not even considering the server hamsters, who during their rare naps cry at the extra work they have to do to counter it's badness. You really don't want it to be very large. So, it could be worthwhile keeping your bandwidth low, turning off shadows (a huge one), and keeping your cache at 512MB Weirdly, performance increases as you decrease these numbers.
  20. the number One option I must let Linden Labs know which will bring players INTO second life the Fastest and in the Largest numbers is by adding more Options to player versus player interactions, I.E. combat. Oh boy. This is a sex sandox game, not specifically designed for pvp. There are more than enough MMOs around that are specifically designed that honestly are a better choice, although mainly stale. The last thing this game needs on it's long tail is development effort put in that improve the capture of testosterone filled teenage boys. The effort should go into things like mesh deforming, specular, improved scripting and creation tools (which would let YOU make a pvp game inside the sandbox. It should go into finally giving people a little more value on land rentals, drop the price of full regions from 295 to 195 and homesteads from 125 to 75. At the same time bump up the prims, up from 15K to 30K. That is what might increase numbers in this past-it's-prime game. Not some half-thought-out pvp dream to get people we don't want ot need.
  21. Jewel Laurasia wrote: *ducks* I'll see your child avatar and raise you an 8 foot tall woman with bling heels and breasts that defy gravity as they giggle like jello despite being 38KKK (or more) cupped. /shudders
  22. A region (we don't call them sims anymore) is US$1000 to buy new and US$295 per month tier on top. Cheaper on the used market, going price is from $300 to $400, sometimes less if you can beat the "buzzard" but you will still get that US$295 per month charge and it can't/won't be delayed. But maybe for a beginning to rent is a better option and lets you walk away should your plans fail. You can also rent by the week from someone like Anshe or any of her shadow comapnies for around L$88,000 per month. Now, if you buy on limit at 257 that means.... US$342 minimum per month. Or you can rent a homestead and start there. Which I did when they were 1900 prims. Honestly, if you do this but won't bite the bullet, pick a smaller person and stay away from Anshe as she is not flexible. Talk to your estate agent about maybe buying the region off him at market prices plus transfer down the road. You can get a homestead and it can be good at only US$120-US$150 or so per month, but your build will need to be trimmed, doing a region with 3750 land impact is hard. Then on top you will need to decorate, build and possibly hire people. It can be rewarding. You will meet a lot of people, you will spend a tonne of money, but it can be rewarding (or heartbreaking) I might sound like I'm trying to talk you out of this, but I've never regretted any of my many regions over the years. Well, outside Linden sillyness, but you end up looking away from that to stay sane. If you have the drive and are willing to keep working up through the ranks of land "ownership (hahaha)" you ca doit. Happy to talk! Either here or in world. *points to his name* ((lots of edits to counter tiredness, a bad keyboard, typonese and forgetting to put US in front of the $ signs so they can't be mistaken as linden dollars)) Start with a homestead from a smaller estate agent would be my suggestion! I was going to put in a free ad there for my brother, shouldn't do that, but if you want a good estate agent... *coughs* and chops his fingers off so he can't type it.
  23. The Lindens have never made sense. From their reactions to banking, through gambling, through the about face on homesteads, specialtreatment of Anshe, to nipplephobia and now stopping many European and South Americans from playing they... just... keep... messing... up. There is famous picture of Lucy of the Peanut's comic strip pulling a grid iron ball away from Charlie Brown as he is about to kick it. That is what the Lindens do. One can never decode their intent, and to blame it on any government is wrong, it's just that they're [redacted] in the head right from the board of directors down. All I know is my community is reeling, a lot of regions, good well built regions are selling up and leaving. I am loosing a lot of friends over this one, maybe as much as back in the SL5B stupidity of theirs. * word redacted on purpose to maintain fig leaf PG ratings was.... "messed"
  24. Oh god. Not this again. SL5B repeats for SL10B GO AWAY AND STOP BEING GLADYS KRAVITZ. Abner... the Stevens mother, Endorra, just appeared out of nowhere.
  25. Yeah it's hapenning a lot, asset server is also giving problems. I had a person today who said he didn't see me online standing right next to me, he thought I had hidden myself, which needed explanation. Jira though is where I fear this would get more Linden Love (did the Lindens ever learn to love us non-business cashcows?) than here in the boondocks. <3
