  1. You all have been posting fine pictures of beautiful avatars. Here's a bit of contrast (in a Halloween theme): His clothing hasn't rotted a bit (though he has). ETA: I realized his fine features can't be appreciated in the above shot, so here's a closeup:

Jo Yardley wrote:I'd love to invite 70 year and older people to 1920s Berlin or other historical sims, talk to them, hear their stories, ask them what they think about our view of their past, etc. Here's one -- 12th post down on this thread: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Make-Friends/Looking-for-friends-of-all-ages/m-p/1179999#M7948 He says he's 73.
  3. I was referring to the Parametric Deformer Project from the original post. The Parametric Deformer Project involves modifying the avatar code in the SL client so that mesh clothing will conform to the avatar mesh. The client has has to have access to to the avatar mesh since the client is where your avatar is drawn/baked. Sy wondered if the source code could be used to create something that would modify other objects. I don't believe that will be possible.
  4. The parametric deformer works on a mesh so that it can be shaped to fit over the mesh underneath it. It doesn't deform prims or sculpties and it's probably something that will be specific to avatars since it would be built into the avatar code for the client.
  5. That is so cool! (Literally too.) I forsee significant difficulties making a transportation system out of it, but the experiments would be lots of fun.
  6. What you see in the forums is what you've set in My Settings->Preferences->Display under Date Display Format. I don't know what the default is.
  7. I'm no fonder of pictures of myself in virtual form than in real life, but I do like autumn. Here's mine: It takes awhile to change seasons. I've got the big parts done with lots of detail work remaining.
  8. What technology would you get rid of? Computing? Telecommunications? Agricultural? Medical? Transportation? Clothmaking? Candlemaking? As we learn more our technologies get more complex. From all I've read, I'd say we ain't seen nothin' yet. For all humanity's advances, we still don't have warp drives. That's a technology I'd love to see.
  9. ^^ What she said. I'd like to hear Lillie and Venus and the others. Doesn't fighting seem out of place for Hippiestock? Chill out & peace to everyone, man. /me wanders off to find a place to crash...
  10. You're not missing any settings. Some viewers have been updated to handle the new limit, others haven't. BTW, I couldn't get 64m prims in the previous Firestorm beta, but they do work for me in the Firestorm mesh beta.

The server will be busy and you may have troubles accessing the web site for a day or so... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/home/ ENJOY !!!! The link is to the developer preview for Win 8 -- think alpha or pre-alpha, not beta. It's definitely something to load on a spare machine rather than one you expect to use daily.
  12. Windows 8 is based on the same code as Windows 7. There are supposed to be enhancements, such as faster boot time. The big change is the addition of the tile GUI to go along with the traditional GUI. I don't have anything smaller than a 23" monitor, so I don't see that I'll have any use for a GUI meant for tiny little screens. There are a few announced features I'd like to have, but so far Windows 8 looks like a pass to me. I expect Win 8 to run SL just as well as Win 7 does.

NikCruze wrote: This is all due apparerently to LL not recognizing the Nvidia's 450's, 460's cards by other manufacturers (ie Zotac etc) SL is having problems with 4- & 5-series NVidia cards that are using the newer NVidia drivers. LL has to change a lot of code to fix the problem, but the Jira on it gives a work-around. Check https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/CTS-657?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Aco.... It says which driver to use. An explanation of the actual problem is in a comment near the bottom of the page. BTW, This is a user forum; there's no guarantee any Linden Lab employee will ever read your post.
  14. Undertakers wrote: The Spider Mite Project provides a service for people who are not partizipating in Second Life anymore. So they can end with SL in an innovative way and their partizipaction will be dignified forever on our website. Residents who are still active kann leave an eternal mark so that their partizipation is recognized as well. Do you truly expect your website to exist eternally? I suspect SL will outlive it.
  15. The problem with the newer NVidia cards is actually due to Linden Lab needing to update the viewer code to get rid of OpenGL calls that shouldn't be used anymore. A workaround is to use an older NVidia driver with the 400/500 series cards until LL fixes the code. Check https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/CTS-657?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Acomment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=279187. It says which driver to use. An explanation of the actual problem is in a comment near the bottom of the page. I prefer NVidia cards myself, but any of the new AMD or NVidia cards should run SL fine, especially the cards starting around $200 (U.S.) and up.
  16. Here's an avatar I bought awhile ago. He's not the sort a smile comes to naturally. Here's proof: His "normal" look, smiling, and winking. ETA: I must've hit the wrong 'Reply'.

  18. I checked out the place mentioned in this topic and found this:
  19. @ Storm, Madelaine, Kelli: Bravo! All I can contribute to this is my name. :smileywink:

  21. I feel there should be an occasional anti-vanity picture to provide a contrast to the rest. In that spirit, here's mine:
  22. I believe Rolig has given you the only solution. However, voice chat range is greater than text chat range. Text chat (not shouting or whispering) has a 20m range. According to the knowledge base : You are able to hear voicev chat up to 60 meters from your listening position. If you have Listen from: Camera position selected, this means you can hear voice dhat from up to 110 meters away (50 meters camera tether + 60 meters from your camera). Under special circumstances, Linden Lab may choose to alter these distance settings on a region-by-region basis.
  23. Autumn is definitely my favorite time of year. I love the cooler, dryer days and even cooler nights. I love the colors of the leaves. I like all the holidays (days off) too. :matte-motes-evil-grin: I do decorate for autumn in SL, but it's too soon for this year. Here are a couple shots from last year.
  24. Rabid Cheetah wrote: omg is this a permanent feature? :womanvery-happy: Yes -- the new limit is 64 meters rather than 10 meters.
