Pamela Galli wrote: Well then, by all means, stay upset over it if that's what you want. <shrugs> And if you are not upset about your own loss but actually about the loss of all those others who will lose almost $4 -- are you upset about my loss of around $700 when LL devalued land? How about the merchant who lost most of her inventory last week and had to close her store? Also I read in the feeds that someone has cancer. If you did not know before to read merchant return policies and to buy only from reputable, honest merchants, well -- now you do. You forgot to mention the starving children in Africa, and yes i am upset about that also. This thread however isnt about LL devalueing land or the poor Africans, its about people being able to rip others off using Marketplace and not having to face any consequenses. What should LL do?... I don't know. I never claimed to know. maybe they should round up their accounts and send to the proceeds to devalued land owners lol Maybe they should require payment info? It's required to upload mesh. It would scare off a lot of potential scammers who wouldnt want their real names on file with LL. Maybe they could put that info on the sellers ad right next to the BUY button, something along the lines of "This seller has no payment info on file". Maybe they could require you keep certain amount of L$ in Marketplace account? scammers wouldnt be able to just send all the L$ they make to under the radar accounts cause it would be tied up in disputes and withheld by Marketplace. Of course LL doesnt want to hire a bunch of people and play Second Life Judge Judy, but i think they could take a couple small steps in order to make it a bit more difficult or prohibitve for potential scammers to work. P.S. like i said...I don't know and dont claim to have the answers, i just know getting scammed isn't pleasant. Like you said, i am aware of it now, and will be much more careful making purchases on Marketplace :matte-motes-smile:

Hop eit helps. Hi Thanks for trying..unfortunately the map is NO MODIFY as well as NO TRANSFER and it won't let me copy UUID I'm really starting to doubt the maps are what are pictured in the ad and this is why the merchant refuses to send me ones i can use

JohnMiddlefield wrote: This could be the case that the seller does not know how to set the permissions correctly, and did not bother to test the permissions themselves with an alt account before putting it up for sale. They think that the product has the right permissions, but it doesn't because the seller does not know any better. I have come across several sellers like this - just not knowing how to set the permissions correctly. When I approached these sellters after buying their product, they were usuallly quite congenial and we worked together trying to sort the problem. However, the last time I did this, even though the seller worked hard at trying to get the permissions right, they just couldn't do it. So we left it at that. Sometimes setting permissions on a product that is made out of multiple prims, can be complicated. However, in your case, the problem is not complicated. If this seller you have dealt with begins to receive similar complaints from other purchasers, they just might clue into the fact that they need to revisit the permissions setting. I doubt very much they understand that is it is their fault. I wish that was the case. I wrote her and explained to her that no transfer sculpt cant be applied to prim, but only recieved a nasty reply from and her and her alt. She knows the permissions are set to NO MODIFY/NO TRANSFER and even used her alt to belittle me in the review discussion. The whole thing stinks and it's partly why im a littlle worked up about it. The fact that i didnt get what i paid for then was rudely shrugged off when i asked for full perm sculpt maps. I'm suspecting the maps are not what is pictured. As far as i know the maps are of the default apple.

Ry0ta Exonar wrote: Hence buyer beware like stated in https://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php I think LL should make that policy prominently displayed in the marketplace like on every page of the listings. The policy actually says "Linden Lab does not certify or endorse the operation of in-world games, vending machines, or retail locations; refunds must be requested from the owners of these objects." Marketplace isn't IN-WORLD, and the fact that it's run and OWNED by Linden Labs, who profits from sales made on it, seems to me they just... in a way... stated they are liable for refunds lol. P.S. i know LL isnt liable for it but they might want to look at their own disclaimer and rewrite it and like you said, put it in BOLD BIG WRITING...on every page and right above the check out button....."rip offs can and do happen on Marketplace and when they do, you can just kiss your L$ goodbye cause we aint lifting a finger to help"
  5. Pamela Galli wrote: Leave a review, and if the seller relists, then you can tell LL. But although 1000L sounds like a fortune, it is really less than $4.00. When you have lost several hundred dollars when LL devalues land overnight, then you might have reason to fret. Yeah, 4 dollars from me....4 dollars from another person...4 dollars from another...4 dollars...4 dollars...and no one can get their money back. It's not the money, it's the fact that people can do this and there is nothing i can do to get my L$ back. I can be ripped off and i have no recourse and no help from LL who runs the site and profits from sales made on it. It's only 4 dollars so it's easy for them to get away with it because no one makes a big enough stink over it...."oh it's only 4 dollars, don't fret it" and they can go on taking people for 4 dollars...2 dollars...1 dollar....it all adds up to rotten
  6. I bought a boot builders kit on Marketplace. The Perms were shown to be FULL PERM. The seller clearly stated the sculpt maps were full perm and not to be given out or sold. However when i received the sculpt maps, they were NO TRANSFER/NO MODIFY. I dont mind being no modify, but as NO TRANSFER i cannot even apply them to a sculpt prim. It will not allow me to drop the sculpt map into the sculpt window. The seller insists she did nothing nothing wrong listing the item as full perm and that the sculpt maps can be used as NO TRANSFER. but they cant!!! What really gets me though is LL's response is that this is between me and the seller. They said i can write a review of the product, but all the seller has to do is remove the listing and then relist it and there wont be any bad review. The seller can go on scamming and i'm out 1000 L$. I've reopened my case like 3 times and i get the same response, LL does not get involved in L$ disputes between sellers and buyers and that i have to continue to try to contact seller. All the seller has to do is mute me and its problem solved...and i;m out 1000 L$ and not a thing I can do about it. It's ridiculous!! Someone can blatantly scam on MP. They dont need any real product, dont need to use their real name, they can scam away anonymously with no overhead, no oversight, no real product, and no consequences.
  7. i want to update an outfit...i have it boxed...im leaving the name the same on the box...do i just upload in the merchant outbox and delete the old box? I'm not sure how this works with DD and i'm really hoping i dont have to jump through all the hoops remaking a new listing everytime i update an outfit.
  8. Has anyone else ever had this happen? I was looking through my store and found one of my listings has someone elses sales pic. I dont know what store it is, but it's certainly not mine, and not something i would even have to upload by accident. My listing was for a Garrison cap and the sales pic is for a mini skirt...i guess i need to look through my listing a little more often. I'm not sure how long at's been like that but my sales for the particular item has been zip for a while.
  9. I just bought like 20 hair DEMOS.....in three little shopping sprees...all came within seconds.....then i settled on a hair....paid for it and am still waiting an hour later lol its like all my free demos were instant, but the one time i actually paid it failed .
  10. most of the stuff i bought came boxed. I just dragged the box to the ground and opened like normal....then i deleted the box or dragged to my objects. But 3 of my purchases arrived in folders, already opened in my recieved items folder. I found out when you recieve items already opened in folders, you have to drag them to the top of your inventory and drop them into the inventory folder. I was trying to drag them out but they would want to just drop into every folder you stopped at....i never really realized the very top of the inventory is the inventory folder.
  11. Hi everybody, I bought some things from Marketplace and i noticed a couple days later they are still in my "Recieved items" folder. I tried dragging them out but not sure exactly how to drag them out as they seem to end up being dropped into whatever folder happens to be nearby. I dont really want my purchases to remain in the Recieved Items, i would prefer they go where they would normally go , alphabetically listed with the rest of my inventory. Is this normal for item to remain in the Recived Items folder? P.S. I use the latest phoenix viewer
  12. I asked for something similar in a thread a while back http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/merchant-search-by-item-to-find-customers/td-p/1231589 Sassy Romano posted a link to a tutorial video that shows how track all yor sales information yourself. This is the link Sassy posted http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/Setting-up-Marketplace-to-use-ANS-and-log-to-an-external/m-p/1107297/highlight/true#M9323
  13. I commented on two JIras that fit whats going on. One of the Jiras was about the new DEBUG PERMISSIONS not showing in object profile. What i think has happened is I'm still using Phoenix with the older style UI. the new viewers have a new Debug Permissions, where the debug will not show in in object profile. The object has to be rezzed in order to see the new debug permissions which now show on edit floater. So basically if your on an older viewer i wouldn't count on the debug permissions in object profile working correctly. Old or new viewer, if you want to check to see what true perms are your gonna have to rez items.
  14. I've been checking a lot of my items and finding quite a few mis-set perms. All with the debug permissions showing they are correctly set. Almost all of them have perms set to MOD/COPY/NO TRANSFER....and will show this in debug permissions ie: no slam bit....but when rezzed will show TRANSFER ONLY permissions
  15. I have the same problem with prim feet. A slight difference in lighting and my feet look like the circulation has been cut off lol. At the FREE DOVE i got a pair of "SIN" high heels that are some of my favorite. My feet look perfect in them and theyre really nice looking shoes. Going on three years and lots of expensive shoes, but i keep going back to that pair......and they're free p.s they come with two pairs, black and white
  16. I know you said not coats, but there is a nice turtle neck sweater included in this. If you're just looking for a sweater then its probably not worth it for you. I hope it's ok to post a link to my own products , I'm assuming this is what your asking for lol https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Checked-pattern-coat/2867540
  17. I found out a while ago about the debug setting for permissions after people were asking for me to make my supposed MODIFY permission items modify. I found out my permissions werent sticking because they were set while the objects were in my inventory. Since then i have always rezzed objects and then set perms and checked for the "slam bit" in the permissions. But yesterday i was sending out some shoes to someone who didnt get a delivery and by chance decided to check permissions. They looked fine when i checked in my inventory....no slam bit shown, but when i rezzed the shoes they were full perm....i have no idea why as i had set the perms when rezzed, and no idea why the debug permissions didn't work.
  18. People can't file these anonymously. they have to use their RL names and contact info. If people are frivoulouly reporting DMCAs its the same thing as frivolously filing police reports. They can be sued for lawyer and court costs and every other thing involved with clearing up a fraudulent claim. If someone is doing it to try to boost SL sales then they are SERIOUSLY stupid.

However, it is possible to file a lawsuit on a previously unregistered work merely by filing an application for registration immediately prior to initiating the lawsuit." Yes, but you have to prove that you own the copyright. If someone sues me for infringement of a copyright that they claim to own, I am not going to take their word for it that they own it. Someone else may be the creator of the allegedly infringed work. Furthermore, I am not going to take their word for it they that they registered the work. I am going to demand proof of the registration, certified by the Registrar of Copyrights and bearing the original seal. Moreover, the date upon which they registered the work is very important because if registration was not timely, they are not entitled to statutory damages or attorneys fees. See 17 USC 412. Concerning google images, see Perfect 10 v. Google. The use of small copied images as shown by search engines is considered to fall under fair use. Of course you don't to take their word for it, and can demand till you're blue in the face, it wont stop it from going to court. Thats what the court will decide, who own copyright and is it valid. My point in replying to your original argument is that YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED in order to have copyright protection, and that YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED in order to claim copyright infringement. In order to sue for damages or to prove copyright ownership in court, THEN you will need to be registered or at least have file an application for registration, but you do not have to be registered prior to the infringement. You do not need to be registered to file a DMCA. You do not need to be registered to be the owner of copyright of all your creations. If you think people are going to register all their creations YOUR NUTS ....it cost money each time and to file for each and every thing you create would be insane. But thankfully someone was blessed and had a brain and decided that it isn't neccessary to register everytime you create something for that work to be yours, and if someone copies your work, that you can still claim copyright infringement and they have to stop using it or face fines & penalties

  21. Josh Susanto wrote: At least some of you reading this probably have images of which Google has produced a thumbnail version without any explicit consent on your part. Google further makes commercial use of these thumbnails. Billions of them. These thumbnails, by their very nature, are more recognizable than whatever I would derive from such an image in order to produce a sculpted prim. It's my understanding that if an image is already the same size as a Google thumbnail, the thumbnail effectively duplicates the image. And yet, I have been criticized for using derivative images which are produced from images with no copyright notice, while no one says anything about Google's continued commercial use of millions, if not billions of thumbnails produced from images containing copyright notices and from websites with explicit efforts built in to thwart use of the images by Google users. Google is a search engine. Google shows images to help people searching for particular images that have been published in a public area. Google shows some of my images that i have posted on Markeplace. I posted those pictures so that they can be seen on a public website. I don't think they're violating anything because they make no claim the image is theirs and all they're doing is allowing people to link to the original image. This is bad for what reason? Imagine if Google or any search engine wasnt allowed to show, use, or post any copyrighted text or image in the searches, would search even work?.Would the internet work as an information superhighway? Google is just as guilty of violating copyright as LL when people make AVs or reproduce images inworld that are copyrighted. If you have a problem with google using a thumbnail of one your images and you feel its in violation of your copyright, then you file a DMCA request and google has to stop or face fines. Its upto the copyright holder to file this is they feel violated. I think most people don't mind, or even prefer their copyrighted images and text to be shown in google searches because it ultimately benefits them or their websites with sales, revenue, exposure, traffic ect...... Of course if they don't want it...then back the DMCA request...
  22. Randall Ahren wrote: If they do sue, make sure you demand proof of ownership of the asserted copyrights. The burden is on them to prove their case and one of the elements is proof of ownership of the allegedly infringed copyrights. Demand certified copies of the copyright registrations. Actually you are not required to register anything in order to claim copyrights. I'll quote the U.S. copyright office "The way in which copyright protection is secured is frequently misunderstood. No publication or registration or other action in the Copyright Office is required to secure copyright." "Copyright is secured automatically when the work is created, and a work is “created” when it is fixed in a copy or phonorecord for the first time." "Copyright protection subsists from the time the work is created in fixed form. The copyright in the work of authorship immediately becomes the property of the author who created the work. Only the author or those deriving their rights through the author can rightfully claim copyright" United States Copyright office puplication U.S Library of Congress. http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.pdf
  23. you might also consider that some creators have hundreds of objects already on marketplace and other projects in the works. Going though all the product to remove invisiprims and including the appropriate alpha for all the products might not be their highest priority. Personally i wont buy shoe unless i can mod them to fit my feet. Sick of buy shoes that are too big. i usually just remove the invisiprim myself and find an alpha thatll work. I dont mind invisiprims, it's big, no mod shoes that i dont like
  24. is anyone else noticing a strange black spot appearing when they loosen a shirt layer fit? I thought maybe it was my texture and i redid it, but i noticed even on an untextured shirt layer, as soon as any loosening is applied the black spot reapears. I noticed it on Phoenix and Astra and the latest LL viewer and my friend whos on phoenix also noticed it.
  25. I was having problems where i could not unruth no matter what i did. I tried all the tricks but nothing was working. I noticed though that when i tried to look for a texture in my pictures on my computer, my computer couldn't find it. I knew i had it and typed the name but search kept saying nothing found. When i looked up failed searches on google on the top answers were saying that it was registry errors with my computer. I downloaded a free registry cleaner from AVG ran it, and suddenly my search on my computer worked, and on SL, my AV was loading, and my inventory was loading 100 times faster.
