  1. It's hard to answer this without some more information, for example what exactly happens when you click log in a few questions which if you could answer these might help. Do you get the login progress bar showing up at all? How far does the progress bar get before it fails? When it fails what does the text above the progress bar say last? What error messages is the viewer giving when it fails? If not an error message what does happen when it fails? For further help it might also be useful to go to your Firestorm/Secondlife directory after an attempt and find the viewer log files, for firestorm the file is called Firestorm.log and you can check the location for your operating system on this page. It's likely to be long so best not to post it here directly, but you could paste the file to a service like pastebin and include the link. That said without more information anything I told you would be pure speculation, it's possible some filtering is blocking your access as v2/3 based viewers such as the recent Secondlife viewer and Firestorm do use updated methods to access some important secondlife services which could potentially explain why they are being affected and not the old v1.x viewer using legacy methods.
  2. Limits are automatic as far as Resident Level 1, for all other limits they have to be requested from LL by creating a support case (See link at bottom of post) and asking for a LindenX limits review as mentioned on the LindenX limits page. As for the specifics of your question I am not able to find any specification of the requirements for the other categories beyond resident however I would presume that the currency trader limits are intended for the financial accounts of third party linden exachanges (eg Virwox, DX etc). I would imagine to be classified as a currency trader you would need to be an authorised agent of such a business and be able to provide evidence to that effect but really this is a question you should ask support directly this is a resident supported forum so we only have access to the same information you do. For the benefits, the currency trader limits are designed with businesses trading large volumes of linden dollars and provide daily/30 day limits ranging from US$10,000/20,000 at level 1 to US$40,000/1,280,000 at level 4 for both buy and sell L$ as can be seen on the LindenX limits page. 3. I'm not sure if I understand what you are asking but I am going to do my best at least on what I understand to be your first question, it sounds to me like your location bar has been turned off somehow, the area you mention with your linden home on it is I suspect referring to the favorites bar which hold links of important place for you. Without knowing what viewer you are using or seeing it for myself I can't be 100% sure I would stuggest though that you try right clicking on try right clicking on a blank area of the bar around where your current location used to show, or if there is no bar either there now just right click in that area anyway right near the top of the screen. Several viewer variants will produce a small menu when you do this with around 3 or 4 tick options in it, you would want to tick the option for location bar/address bar or similar wording. If that doesn't help perhaps you could return and provide some more information for us, current viewer type and version at least, you can find the full version number in Help > About Secondlife/Firestorm/YourViewer. While you are there you might as well copy the system info too as I it may possibly help with your second issue please see my comment bellow. Similarly I am having trouble understanding exactly what issue you are having when it comes to your second question, when you say it wants you to TP back to your Linden home what do you mean exactly. Is it that because of the issue above (No Address Bar) you are not sure how to pick another location, Are you trying to teleport and finding yourself arriving at home when you intended to be somewhere else? Or is the viewer giving you an error message or getting disconnected when you try so you end up logging back in at home? Those are just a few different situations that come to mind that you could be facing and the likely causes and possible solutions are many without pinning down exactly what is going wrong, I'd be doing you no favours trying to guess on this one so will try and check back in a few hours if you could clarify for me. If you are getting any kind of message or error could you please include the exact message and also add your system info from help about it might help in diagnosing why it is happening.
  4. It sounds like the IP address you are currently using has been blocked from second life, this could be because of your activity or as most residential IP addressess are allocated dynamicallly because another user on the same ISP as you has triggered an IP ban while using the same address. You should check the email account associated with your second life account to see if you have any emails from support about being blocked there will be one if it is you who triggered the ban, if not then it is probable that another user has caused that IP to be blocked it should resolve when your IP address changes which is often at each reconnection of your router to the internet though they can sometimes be assigned 'sticky' which means that you might need to disconnect your router for 30-60 minutes before your ISP assigns you a new address. If you continue to have issues or require further help you should open a support case with LL directly answers support is by residents with no special access to check your account and provide specific assistance in a case like this. https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/
  5. There are several things which could have happened from your card payment failing for some reason or the linden exchange rate changing between your order and your bank approving the transaction which would have left you with a USD credit that you can use to make a new Linden Dollar order to convert the credit to Lindens and the current exchange rate. The best way to find out exactly what happended to the funds from your first attempt the best thing to do is to check your account history it will show your card transaction and a reversal or an outstandting credit depending on what happened after that. You can find your account history here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/history.php?lang=en-US You can do a quick check of your account summary which will also show if your account has a USD credit balance here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/?lang=en-US If you are still unable to trace the funds try contacting billing, if you find the card transaction failed the best party to speak to would be your card issuer.
  6. The only way to assign prims without parcelling is to use a scripted rental box, naturally that wont actually be able to stop people rezzing over their limit but they are able to send warnings to both you and the tenant and allow you to use your normal eviction proceedures if the tenant does not bring their account back into order within the time stipulated in your rental agreement. As for the other question yes, the only way to change the prims on a parcel is to change the parcels size or to use the region/estate bonus. Note however that when that is used the region can still only have 15,000 prims total so not all tenants will be allowed to use the additional prims it grants in effect what it does it allows some parcels to use more than their fair share by effectively taking those prims away from the fair allocation of other parcels within the sim which are using less. As such prim bonus can only be done fairly where an area of land containing prim allocations at least equal to the bonus is kept devoid of prims and not rented to tenants, or uses lightly primmed landscaping. For example having the centre 1/4 of the sim made into a lake with some low prim landscaping perhaps would fairly and sustainably support a prim bonus of around 1.20-1.24 (The other 0.01-0.05 or 150-750 prims being the prims for the landscaping).
  7. Also contact your credit card company, especially if you have not bought lindens previously or charges in foregn currency etc before many card companies will tend to block larger charges that don't fit the users usage history. There may also be some other reason the charge was declined, at least elimiate that possibility then if that checks out try contacting LL to see if they can do anything. Generally speaking if a card transaction fails it is usually because it is declined unless the entire service is down, with declined transactions there is little the merchant can do but refer you to the card company. I know from experience 9 times out of 10 when an online transaction has failed my card company resolved it not the merchant often it's an anti fraud security measure or simply overestimating available funds forgetting a transaction etc.
  8. To go premium you have to clearly elect to upgrade your account by following the upgrade process as such there is no way to get the charge you formally agreed to by following the process removed from your card at all. Your best course of action is to immidiately cancel your subscription, this will prevent your membership being renewed at the end of the month (This was agreed to with the upgrade). You will remain premium for this month until it expires as your premium subscription has already begun the service perchased has already been rendered at this point. By all means go ahead and call LL but I suspect that they will tell you the same thing, premium memberships are to the best of my knowledge non refundable at leastthat was the case previously.
  9. Something that has not been mentioned here previously but I note the rather heavy overclock on that CPU of yours. That can be problematic and in some cases produce CPU errors even where the temperatures look normal and needs to be investigated as a possible cause here. Firstly check your system temps especially that CPU but also watch the GPU etc as well, clear warning signs are seeing temps over ~60 on the CPU (At full load) or over ~80-90 depending on model for the GPU (See manufacturer website for thermal tollerance data and make sure you are at LEAST 10% bellow at full load). I suggest doing the above while doing intensive CPU and GPU work to see their load temps which are far mor imporant idle temps will tell you nothing of value here. Prime95 is a good one for the CPU as not only will it's torture test put the CPU under load to get a good idea of the true temps you are getting when the CPU is under pressure but it also checks for CPU errors by checking the results of the calculations against known valid results. A soak test of prime95 or similar in torture test mode for at least 24 hours continuous should be you next thing to try but ONLY if the temps look okay first if not fix the temps first as a long torture test with bad cooling could harm the CPU perminantly. The end result of this will tell you if your CPU is throwing math errors under load which will cause crashes, sudden performance issues, and worse data corruption and other problems where applications don't detect the errors which is common. Such problems will be mostly intermittant though more common when the system is at load like when playing second life (Though if it is the overclock you will get some at light load also usually). Note also that the maximum overclock a chip can handle safely is very unique to the individual chip, once you go pushing beyond it's design tollerance you will get some chips that are well able to handle it others less able but pass quality control as the quality control spec was written for standard speeds. In other words your milage may very and you should never assume just because others have acheived a high overclock with a given model of chip that your specific part has the same capability. Another comfounding issue is the interaction of other components in your system, I susggest anyone planning on building or using an overclocked system always do the testing yourself, don't rely on anything else.
  10. Hi Tessa, just to help us understand the situation here a little more do you think that perhaps you could try another v2 based viewer and see what effect if any that has on the problem. Perhaps you could give it a minute to download firestorm from this page http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=downloads Once you have tried that for us please let us know your results here hopefully it will give us another piece of information in our effort to solve the puzzle for you. Good luck Also, I will point out that in the short tem you have a workaround option if v2 wont work for you to get Phoenix also on the page above, Phoenix is a v1 based viewer but does allow wearing of tattoo and alpha layers along with multiple attachments and clothing layers. So if your sole reason you feel you need v2 at this moment in time is being able to wear what you like Phoenix has the features you need. Of course that is juse a workaround not a solution to the origional issue it might improve your second life experience in the immidiate term while working towards a full solution.
  11. Hi there, your transaction history will show a list of all transactions including gifts of items without any lindens involved, you can access your account history here: https://secondlife.com/my/account/transactions.php?lang=en-US Unfortunately that isn't the best record and will only show you up to the first 500 entries on any given day so a popular demo campaign especially when permaited by sales you will lose records. Your other options would be having a scripted object do the giving which also handles logging of items given away, this is often the best way as the script can also be programmed to collect statistical information in addition to a simple list of names. I think some providers in world sell ready made scripts that will do a reasonable job of this though naturally it is something that should ideally be custom designed and set up to handle the demands of your campaign and the data you need to collect from it.
  12. It sounds like a firewall or your router is blocking some of the ports needed for SL to connect and function, please see this page for the ports you need to open to allow SL to work. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Configuring_your_firewall That page also provides some help to configure some types of firewalls and devices if in doubt consult the manual for your firewall or router.
  13. Hi there Lequisha, this is a resident supported forum so we cannot access your account details to retrieve your password, and even if we could it would probably be encrypted anyway (Or at least I'd hope so). However there is a feature to reset your password if you have forgotten it, please go to this page and fill out your other account information in order to reset your password and regain access to your account. https://secondlife.com/my/account/request.php?lang=en
  14. The best resources I have seen for dealing with this and any other appearance related issue is maintained by the Phoenix Project, it will however work for any viewer as the general problem is SL related not viewer related. They have two versions one for Viewer 1.x and the other for Viewer 2.x just click the link bellow which fits your version. Version 1.x http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=bake_fail Version 2.x http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail I am sure that those tips will fix you right up but if your still have issues come on back and edit your post with Options > Edit to let us know what happened so we can help further. I would also bookmark the above URL's they are great resources when you or your friends have issues in the future you can refer back to them or send the links to your friends that are in need.

    age

Hi there, in order to access adult areas on secondlife you need to complete age verification you can do this from your account by visiting this page secondlife.com Age Verification in the event you do not have the required ID to pass age verification a second option which will get you into adult areas but not those that specifically require age verification is to make any purchase on your secondlife account with a valid credit or debit card. Either way once you have done that it is just a matter of going to your viewer preferences, general tab and setting your content access preferences to General, Moderate & Adult (Or PG, Mature & Adult). You can find your preferences in Edit > Preferences (Viewer 1.x) or Avatar > Preferences (Viewer 2.x)
  16. I believe that message means that your current computers IP address is banned, as they change frequently on domestic internet connections there is a good chance that could have been left there by another resident using your current IP address when they were banned. That said this is a resident supported forum so we have no access to check your account directly or to see if your IP address has been blocked, please follow the instructions in the email and contact the support@secondlife.com address they should be able to investigate for you. The fact that your account lets you log in here makes me think it could be that you have had the misfortune to be on an IP someone got blacklisted as an account ban blocks website access too I *think* Try turning your internet router off at the wall and back on again on 99% of home connections that will cause your IP address to change see if that helps though if the subnet is banned or your IP is static it wont help and you will need to see what support says.
  17. Without more information it is hard to answer your question, you can edit your post by clicking on options then edit. Please let us know where are you trying to enter your zip code? Also what is the URL of the page you are having the issue on perhaps I can test it for you depending what you are trying to do. Are you getting any other informational messages other than the We are unable to complete your request? What makes you sure it's the zip code is that feild heighlighted and are you sure it is correct? Your property the zip code is for is not a recent build is it? It is possible that a recent build might not be on the database used to validate the zip code or something. Again hard to say for sure without more info so if you could edit your post for me and add the information while I go and check service status to see if there are any known issues right now that could affect you. EDIT: I checked grid status for you and am not seeing any current known issues that would affect the payment or age verification systems which is about the only place I can think of where zip codes are involved. That does not of course guaranteed there isn't one as if the issue is very new it can take some minutes to be posted there. Please update your post and I will see if there is anything else that I or one of the other friendly people here can think of to help you.
  18. As others have already said there is no way to actively remove an owner once set, they would have you resign from the group or at the very least from the owner role themselves first before another owner would be able to remove them. This is a necessary feature and provides the critical security necessary to have groups be useful for the holding of collectively owned land for example. As for what to do about it then it is hard to provide any solid advice without some idea what "Actively causing problems" means. Here are a few suggestions that might help but it is dependent on the circumstances: In the event they are actually violating the community standards or terms of service you do have the option of filing an abuse report with LL, in the event that such abuse can be confirmed that might be one way to end the threat to your group as if their account is disabled it no longer matters they are "Owner". On the other hand in most situations like this it is probably a matter of group politics, and there isn't an option to have the person forcably removed that said remember that normally you are dealing with someone who is a good friend or at least someone you are close to, you trusted them with ownership of your group after all. In these sorts of situations I find that they can usually be resolved by talking patiently and politely with the person while keeping an open mind and try to bear in mind that no disagreement between two people is ever completely one sided invariably both will have made misinterpretations, over reactions etc which added to the conflict. So I suggest you try sitting down and talking calmly with the other owner and try to find a solution you can both live with that produces the best outcome for the group and it's members. If the situation has become heated try taking 24 to 48 hours away from SL and come back with a clear head and be ready to compromise you can probably find a solution to this. If you like then I may be able to help provided that both of you are willing to at least try to reach a compromise, I have pretty good diplomatic and mediation skills and am happy to use them to help others provided that both sides genuinelly want to try (If not then it's pointless) contact me in world if you would like my help/advice further. If all else fails the final option is to fork the group, create another group and ask your existing members to join that new one, it is a drastic action though and it will cost you a portion of your membership so it should be a last resort.
  19. There are a number of things which could cause this but to start off lets check your settings in your viewer and make sure those are all okay. The voice settings menu is different for viewer 1.x and viewer 2.x so as I do not know which you are using here are the instructions for both. Viewer 1.x In the menu click on Edit > Preferences then choose the Voice Chat tab. Check that the enable voice box is ticked. Check that you have your proper sound card set up in Input/Output devices, sometimes the wrong one can be selected if other devices in your computer have sound interfaces (Webcams, Graphics cards with HDMI ports etc often do). Once everything looks good click on reset voice then on OK and see if that helps things at all. Viewer 2.x In the menu click on Avatar > Preferences then choose the Sound & Media tab. Check that Enabled is ticked next to the Voice Chat volume slider. Check that you have your proper sound card set up in Input/Output devices, sometimes the wrong one can be selected if other devices in your computer have sound interfaces (Webcams, Graphics cards with HDMI ports etc often do). Once everything looks good click on OK and see if there is any improvement. If neither of these work the next thing to try is simply log out and close down your viewer then try logging back in again, it is not uncommon to have temporary issues logging into voice that can cause a symptom like you describe. It is possible that none of the above will work, if that is the case please come back here and let us know. In addition some extra information would be helpful to help us in identifying possible causes of your issue. Please follow these steps to obtain your viewer infromation that will help us: In your viewer click on Help > About, you will get a dialog box on your screen. In viewer 2.x simply click on the info tab then on "Copy to clipboard", or in Viewer 1.x based viewers select everyhing from the top of that dialog down stopping before the "Credits" section and copy the information to your clipboard. Edit your post here by clicking on Options > Edit and paste in the information you just found. It would also help if you could include any other information which may be helpful, for example if you can answer any of these questons that are relevant to your situation and/or anything else you can think of: Did voice work for you in the past? If so do you remember what you were doing between when it last worked and now? Do you have working sound generally in SL streaming, object sounds, gestures all playing okay? Any sound issues with other applications? Are you using other media applications at the same time as SL? Such as music or video players, video/audio content in your browser, VOIP or voice chat apps, other games of any kind? Any change if you disable all these and restart secondlife?
  20. Van, there had to be some limit to the number of choices there or it would get confusing for everyone. As for why you choose at start it is quite simple, it is a lot better doing that than having everyone male and female rez in world as a generic form. The purpose of the starter avatars is to give people a choice of socially acceptable avatars and outfits that they can feel comfortable in while they get their bearings in world without having to immidiately have the pressure of rusing about the grid finding and customising their avatar.
  21. This particular error relates to a problem with the asset server not being able to retreive the origional copy of the asset and send it to the sim you are on. There are a few things you could try but it is quite possible the items have been corrupted or lost, give the following a try though: Try accessing the items from a different sim, if the sim is having issues contacting the asset server it is possible it could cause problems. If that does not work try teleporting to an empty sim like Sif for example [sLURL] going to Edit>Preferences>Network (v1.x) or Avatar>Preferences>Network (v2.x) and click the clear cache button then ok shut down your viewer and log in again. When you log in it will take time for your intenfory to load, wait for it don't do anything until it finishes after it is complete you can try wearing the items again. If those don't work then it is possible the items are not retreviable however someone might have another suggestion I havn't thought of so do check back.
  22. Without permission from the copyright holder the answer would be no, that said depending how much you really want to do this obtaining such permission might not be as hard as most people presume. The fact is most copyright holders don't want to hide their work away they simply want to be compensated fairly when others are making money from it. I know people that have recieved permission from several large copyright holders to use their material in exchange for a percentage of sales none from disney specifically but if approached fairly they would possibly consider it though they would probably want a reasonable volume. On the other hand there is another option, on the internet there are nemerous sites holding cartoon artwork created by small independent artists, there is some very high quality origional material out there. Of course once again you could not use their work without permission but a small independent artist is probably more likely to grant it even in a situation where the sales volume is smaller, you will probably even find some that might be willing to permit free usage in exchange for the fact it promotes their work (Probably requiring a credit in your information notecard with a URL to their art site or similar). In all honesty there is generally little reason to take the risk of using someones copyrighted work without permission as there are safer ways to obtain high quality artwork to use. Good luck to you.
  23. There are a number of possibilities here, if you are the land owner you should be able to return it using the right click menu or using About Land>Objects. If that does not work then there are several possibilities: The object is only encroaching on your land and it's root prim is located on the other side of a parcel boundy. You will be able to determine this is the prims it contains do not show up in the About Land>Objects tab at all. In that case you should contact the owner of the newighbouring parcel and ask their help in returning the object. If you are on estate land you could also try asking an estate owner or estate manager to try and return the object it might work. It is possible that you have a ghost left behind, this can happen something when returning an object the object seems to vanish but in fact is still there and you can bump into it like it remains solid. This will fix itself on the next sim restart so have your estate owner restart the sim if it is a private island or on mainland put in a ticket. If none of these seem to be helping in your situation then please edit your post by using Options>Edit and add additional details, things that will be helpful: Details of the object, when did it appear, who owns it, for example is it owner by an estate owner or manager? Do the prims it contains show up under About Land > Objects correctly? Any other information about the object? What steps have you already tried to remove the object? Did any changes at all happen when you attempted to remove it? It would also help if you could perhaps include an SLURL to your parcel near the object in question then perhaps myself or someone else could take a look for you and see if they can provide any additional insights.
  24. Short answer no you cant change your username, you can choose a new display name by using a v2.x viewer but that will not allow you to hide from your past in any way at least not if anyone choose to search you by your old name or looked at your username instead of your display name. That said more important is to think about why you would need to hide from your past and what is so important that you would be willing to sacrifice all your work and investment to date. Not knowing what you are trying to avoid it is hard to advise but in general terms defrending, muting and changing your display name should be sufficient if these individuals pose some kind of threat or are greifing you then you can always utilise the abuse report proceedure that is what it is there for. On the other hand if you simply want people to know how long you have been playing then that is easy to acheive even with a new account, simply add a line to your profile stating that you have been an SL resident since <date> and felt like a fresh start, you would hardly be the first resident to have gone to that extreme. Naturally in doing so you loose everything that you have invested in the current account over the last 7 years no doubt a considerable amount by this point. The decision is yours but if I were you I would not be willing to give up 7 years of investment and effort in effect simply to hide from my own past after all the one who would lose the most by doing so would be myself not those I would be hiding from.
  25. Hi there, firstly welcome to second life finding your feet can be a bit daunting at first but stick with it and you will get there. Of your two questions I will address the money issue first as you would need money to consider renting a place to live if you felt that you need one, it is not necessary to have land to enjoy second life however unless it is something you want of course. This post has an excellent guide on earning money in second life, http://forums-archive.secondlife.com/118/7b/121897/1.html I must second the important fact that the single best way to get L$ is simply to buy them however if that is not an option there are multiple choices to earn L$ in world but they don't pay that well and you will need to spend much more time on an SL job to earn any amount of L$ than you would using an RL job and buying them. As for getting a home there are basically three choices: Go premium and get a free linden home from SL, this will cost 10 US$ per month. Rent land or possibly a prebuilt home from another resident this can cost anything from a few hundred L$ and upwards. Purchase some land on the mainland for L$ or your own private island for US$ and then pay tier each month to linden labs, this again is paid in US$ Renting is the only way to obtain a home if you are only willing to spend in world currency or L$, the other options while giving greater security all require the payment of US$ to linden labs. I hope this helps, if you are needing any help with anything else as you settle in or are in need of a friend you would be welcome to contact me in world my SL name is Silky Mesmeriser. Once again welcome to SL and good luck to you
