this is for firestorm. not sure about other viewers in photo tools panel under the cam tab, crank up the cam smoothing slider. you can then use alt + arrow keys or ctrl+alt and arrow keys to move the cam . otherwise you would need a 3D mouse or xbox controller, but for simple videosm using this method should work fine

Thanks Jackson, that worked! I just need to show interiors so this works for me!

    Since Kyrah reopened this thread:

For me the big change came when Patch had the nerve to accuse us all of not doing enything to help. Yes, I know he's an arrogant little self-centered, big mouthed bully who knows zilch about content creation but he is also LL's official voice in these matters and his message was clear: the volunteer work we were doing here to help inexperienced content creators and promote better building practices is worthless as far as LL is concerned.

I still try to respond if I have a quick and easy general solution to a something somebody is struggling with but I hardly ever spend hours and hours on Somebosy Else's Problem anymore. I have better and more rewarding things to do with my life.

I have known Patch for quite a few years now, and he's anything like you stated. Let's keep this topic as is without flaming, shall we? Thank you.

(Sorry, nothing better to do during my lunch break.)

The correct usage of "unscheduled maintenance" is when preventative action is taken based upon operational observations indicating something will wear excessively or break if you let it continue running as-is, or that database is full of records marked for deletion but they system is too busy to perform an expunge.  Or maybe a network node or link was over-loaded or experiencing communications errors.

Off-schedule maintenance would be doing things like engine oil changes early or more frequently than dictated by the schedule, maybe you have nothing more pressing to do.

So, I am thinking something was "running hot" or slow or making noises, etc.  Now, if it already broke, as in is no longer functioning as intended from the perspective of the casual user, then this is a repair,  Corrective action taken to restore proper function after a device or system fails to function.

I have an unmaintained preventative maintenance schedule!  bla bla bla

Oh, we cannot log in.  Is this the result of "maintenance" or is it a symptom of "broken"?

(Sorry, nothing better to do during my lunch break.)

Correct, Ardy! Basically something came up and the focus of LL remains there for the moment. And it's a good thing because sometimes it's a glitch that was there all along but due to other types of maintenance it popped up.

BD does alot of things better. FS does something better. Then there is always post production work that you can make it pretty much not matter which viewer you use

There are a few 'annoyances"  in BD though 1) no Texture refresh (that can be a royal pain alot of times)  2) you cant turn off your 'show look at' (not that much a big deal but need be aware of that' 3) can't re-synch animations (say if you're trying to photo a couple on a dance animation) 4) it JellyBeans almost everyone lol (really have to crank up the complexity) 5) no 'phototools' panel like in FS so you have to often bounce between (and scroll through) BD's side slide out panel and preferences to adjust what you need 5) no ability to highlight local light sources (this can be a huge deal sometimes)

Some things BD has that WILL help in world photos is 1) better shadows engine 2) better 'shine' control' 3) ability to turn off alphas in DOF 3) better DOF 4) can uses attached lights without having local lights on) 5) Tone Mapping (this is huge specially if you want to do darker nightime photos 6) Poser - if you shoot yourself on a pose mainly - this is a MUST have

I have to agree, on a daily base I am on FS and sometimes you see a landscape you just have to take a pic of so I use FS. However for a planned shoot my go to viewer will remain BD simply for the reasons Jackson stated.

Considering they got out of scheduled maint, I'd say it's time to break out the ye ol' sea shanty:

True, and well...it's been ages since I wasn't able to log in so...meh...laundry I guess. Every downside has an upside!

I have a question for you knowledgeable folks.  I'm a research scientist / simulation programmer so I know quite a bit about programming but I stay mostly blissfully unaware of how LSL works since I'm here to enjoy SL.. which is why I'm here to ask you experts.

I use a powerful tool in SL written by Thomas Conover,  it's a full sim object scanner, uses drones in SL to generate a list of objects, locations, owners, etc similar in a way to Area Search except that it finds every object in the sim.  It's this:  http://www.thomas-conover.com/gadgets/aos-extreme/

It no longer works as of about Sept or so.  I suspect it's related to this issue because it links a PC program to the SL scripted HUD to create an Excel file with the object lists.  It now fails in the linking with the error message: "Could not find DNS entry for in world object."

I'm guessing that the move to the cloud disabled it from reading all this stuff. Obviously it's not your job to help me but I'm asking your learned opinions on whether this being a casualty of the move sounds likely.  Talking to the maker, Thomas, is off the table as it appears he's left SL and possibly RL too.  I can't find any similar device in SL either, and, like his security orbs, many people used this device.

Your thoughts?  TY in advance :)

Might be that Thomas has left SL, I used his ORB for many years and it stopped giving updates. Then I found out he left...So maybe that answers your question.

Linden Lab CEO Confirms New Round Of Layoffs; Cuts Include Kona Linden, Company's Last Link To Second Life's Glory Days

Sansar Second Life Lidnen Lab Ebbe Altberg Kona Gurion

Pictured:  With Kona Gurion & his dog Moxie at Linden Lab in 2008; inset, Discord announcement from Linden's current CEO from yesterday

Linden Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg yesterday posted on the official Discord channel for Sansar, the company's new social platform, confirming reports (from virtual world blogger Ryan Schultz) of a new round of layoffs, but denying rumors that Sansar itself was closing:

So, I’m only going to say this tonight as it’s late. We can pick up the conversation in the following days. Yes, there were layoffs today. A truly wonderful group of people. But as you can see Sansar is up and running. We are still in discussion about next steps. Including with the wonderful group of people. More to come. Don’t give up yet. Go create and have fun. Not much point in speculating until we can tell you more.

Among the layoffs, I am sad to personally confirm, is Kona Gurion (Kona Linden in SL), who was a member of Linden Lab's QA team for Second Life for 16 years. I knew him even before that, during my own time as Linden Lab's embedded reporter in SL, when Kona was among Second Life's first talented, passionate early adopters. With his layoff, Linden Lab loses its last known link to Second Life during its founding, and glory days of 2006-2008.

This new round of layoffs comes only 3 months after another round of Sansar-related layoffs, when the platform was reportedly operating with just a skeleton crew.

I have reached out to Linden Lab for an official statement and will update this post when and if I get a reply.

  10. Second Life will be undergoing scheduled inventory maintenance from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM PST on October 29th, 2019. During this time, residents may have issues with any inventory related activities including building, logging in, as well as avatar and object rezzing. Please refrain from rezzing in-world, in addition to transacting in-world, on the Marketplace, or on the Lindex during this time.

  11. At this time we are undergoing unscheduled maintenance that may cause some avatars to appear as a cloud for an extended period of time. We expect this issue to clear up gradually over the next hour or two, and inventory is not affected by this maintenance. Please note that at this time relogging will not resolve an avatar appearing as a cloud and mass relogging may extend the timeline for resolution. We thank you for your patience apologize for the inconvenience. Please follow this blog for more updates.
