  1. Nice to see people with a head on their shoulder about the value of a skilled professionals time. See it all the time, people expecting people to work for less than minimal wage, for something that is a high skill job.
  2. Hello guys, I am looking for work, for those who are interested. I do charge professional rates for anything regarding 3D/textures. I however am willing to do some entry level scripting for a discounted rated due to my profficiency. Please IM me inworld. cheers, Failed Inventor
  3. Display hud: Displays current level + Experience - interacts with leader board, and a script line embedded in scripts of other objects. example 1: user finds a treasure chest, when he touches, it runs the objects script to give object, but also sends /xchannel message to award x experience. example 2: user kills npc, before the object dies due to script operation it sends out /xchannel message to award x experience. Display hud, will interact with a leader board. on touch hud and leader board communicate. If user has top 10 ranking amount of experience, he/she is added to the board. Additional Requirements: - This must be done by saving hud info in the prims description. - This must be update-able by place hud A + hud B within 5m, and upon rez, information from older version, will transfer to update. - This hud must allow me to set x values ( per level ) to determine when experience points level up the player. - This must display information via hovertext on hud. 4. Hello Potential Applicants, F.E. Energy, LLC develops 3D asset kits that are used by over 30,000+ virtual world content creators, online game developers, and mobile app designers across the globe. Most well known are our sculpt kits brands, LIFE / DUST / FE Build Kits. We are hoping to produce over 2000+ Mesh based products for the 2012 year. While modeling is covered, we are in need of texture artist and material artist familiar with mesh, seam marking, and proper export/import processes for 3d editors. Developers will enjoy a supplimentary real life income or substancial Second Life income not experienced working with most other partners in SL. To apply please visit http://www.fe-energy.com/#!recruitment . Thank You for your time, Failed Inventor
  5. full grid and no announcement... holy crap thanks for letting me know!
  6. personally I make my uv's map to 1024x1024 or 512x512 or lower all pref on item. THen when I import my model I import my unwrapped full render bake and apply it to the item. hope this helps, cheers.
  7. Rusalka -"And I must say, I've filed my share of DMCAs with LL, and they have always yanked the offending merchandise within twenty-four hours. I'm 100% satisfied with their response to my DMCAs. Of course, I am still waiting for the online DMCA-filing system that was promised eighteen months ago, because filing them is a *#&$*@ pain in the fundament." That must be nice, recently I had a user buy one of my sculpt kits repost it up on market place, using my company logos the original vendor pictures and everything. When I filed my DMCA linden labs rejected it claiming I hadn't sent enough info to verify ownership. Which was irritating, as I provided transaction logs where resident had purchased the item from me, then screenshots of the build process, my state LLC registration, raw files, my drivers license, proof of ownership of company, etc etc etc... tons of materials. It took over half a month before LL accepted my dmca, by then the person ran the value of my product into the ground, and I have been forced to give the product away as a freebie, as everyone bought it for a lower price.
  8. Honestly when mesh first came out I was excited. But here we are almost into august, the earliest mesh could have been fully rolled out full grid, is coming up, and here we are. Staggering penalties, ridiculous PE's etc etc. Gotta say all this makes me wonder if I should just stick with sculpts and douse any hopes and dreams of viable mesh in SL. With the penalties for everything from scaling to physics it nearly defeats the purpose of mesh in the first place. By the time lindens are finished, there won't be anything you can't make with mesh that you couldn't just do for cheaper or just as well with sculpts. honestly dissapointed.
  9. Not sure if you are replying to me or just in general, but regardless of difference, either way it is difficult to enforce any form of any of these outside US especially in 3rd world countries etc.
  10. Due to Linden Lab's policy on harrasment I am not really allowed to speak my mind and call some one an idiot, as I have already been warned by the moderators for throwing out that one liner. ( sorry but if you do something stupid expect to be called on it. ) Most of you may be wondering.. what the hell was that about. Well I hate to say it but people can be at times *enter censored word*. IP infringement, in my mind is pretty clear, atleast in the methods in avoiding it. You can avoid IP infringement by going to your corner, thinking of an idea, not based of something you have seen, owned or made by another company. Yes it can get complicated, but this test covers none of the complications, and as linden labs stated there is "no way to fail." means *entered censored word* will remain *entered censored word* cause in most cases believe it or not... Suzy B. is not as innocent and helpless as one may believe, though Suzy C. could be. For the most part, people infringe for the money, they know damn well they are doing it, so I really don't see this changing much. But I am glad to see you are protecting your @** LL, cause if you didn't I would have one less place to sell my items. Oh and I hate to say it, but if someone IP infringes there isn't crap you will do to stop it outside of US. Change IP, new account and back to profit, cause US Patent & Copyright laws don't really cover most countries where IP infringment now originates. Anyways, disagree if you like, I am sure there are points of my statement which may be disagreed upon, and I would have loved to see this question on the test. #11 - ??? Linden has gone to google sketchup, and has downloaded a model clearly infringing on the rights of Bungies, Halo Warthog. Is it ok for ??? Linden to upload this for "Testing"? If you said F#@* NOOO!!! - You are correct!
  11. graphics drivers I have tried, but network ones I have not, thank you for this suggestion I wil see how it goes.
  12. I also have the same error as you do, is there a fix for this?
  13. I understand and I think you have some very good proints drongle, thank you for discussing it further.
  14. Seems a well made uv unwrap with psd layers could achieve the same. I am still not seeing any upsides other than application of shine, glow, transparency to specific target areas. As you even said the one viable use it does have is not recommended as it will cause increase texture lag. I generally agree with you on most things, but I think people need to update from 2003 a little as optimized texturing and light baking is best done in the 2D and 3D exterior programs of your choice. While many may not like this fact, Second Life simply doesn't have the capabilities of professional editing platforms. Rather than trying to stick to old habits and limitations people would greatly benefit from 1. Learning a real life skill sets, by working in the same or similiar workflows as professional artist. 2. Ability to multi market to variety of platforms, as Second Life won't always be the top nacho, and when that day comes you want to be able to use your skill set to easily adapt to the new platform. But for some I understand this is just a hobby, but, if you are going put less effort into your profession or hobby, expect less results and ability. If anyone believes that someone with less effort should have same capacity and results as a person who invest their entire days, weeks, and lives to their mastery then what would be the point of skills, knowledge and experience anyways.
  15. I thought it would be terrific using multiple materials, like prim faces, but find that you can't really use them like sl prim faces if the ojbct is complex, so really there is no plus only penalty to multiple materials. Unless you need the multiple material for scripting purposes, say targeted effects etc, shine, glow where others would exist. But if no scripts or no special LL effects then you would want to just make an extremely well made template for your object with psd layers with a single material, cause any attempt to use the multi material feature will result in additional penalties.
  16. True costs, quiet a funny term coming from the person controlling the cost, as nothing about the cost is logical thus far. So far true cost is what you are telling us it is, and seems to change weekly if not daily sometimes. But here is the thing, you acknowledge that prims are wasteful, and anyone with half a brain knows that sculpts are notorious fps killers, with horrible load times. I find it disturbing that Lindens believe extremely wasteful sculpts are lower cost then mesh, or that just because you messed up the math 8 years ago, even again when sculpts came out, that the best policy is to make mesh higher cost to balance your mistakes. Just like the tier discount you guys took away from nonprofit and educational communities, has server cost some how gotten magically more expensive over 8 years for same stuff? I can have 100 concurrent users on my virtual platform for free with smartfox. Minecraft I can have 96 people online for 70USD$ a month, hell that blows your 20 user homesteads and 80 user sims out of the water by 2x or 3x atleast if not worse! ( before anyone says well minecraft is crap, what does it use, square blocks, sounds like a prim to me. Ah and!! and!!! oh those blocks are made with meshes, just like Linden prims are! Within draw distance you can have over 100k blocks easily, which means, guess what! 1,200,000 rendered tris! with the furthest draw distance. ) I don't know about you guys but linden prices kinda seem like oil and gas prices, first it was free to create, the we charged for textures, then we made sculpts which are textures, which make texturable objects, and now we have mesh. Your platform is 8 years behind in performance, and looks as if it was from the days of Playstation 1, yet you charge pricing rates of tomorrow on platform capacity of yesterday. So what is the true cost again? Yes I know the temp suspend account button probably seems a bit tempting right now, as I have had my account temp suspended before for expressing my disatisfaction with LL policy.
  17. @ Chodai, thank you, and yes I agree, very well put.
  18. I have to respectfully disagree Runitai, it is what your PE attempts to do. What it actually does is express that the Linden Prim, and sculpt are magically more superior in effeciency than industry standard models, though the magical LL prim and sculpt are made of that same element it is claiming higher effeciency over. I fail to see how multiple wasted polygons, vertices and faces which are rendered but never seen is more efficient, than models which have the same or better shape without wasted polygons, vertices and faces. If this was true then every game engine, every visual application would be using linden prims and sculpts. Additionally I fail to see how most people using dozens upon dozens of 512x512 textures is more efficient than a single 512x512 uv unwrap. I have read through the posts and the explinations with streaming cost. But if sculpts or prims were far more efficient then Pixar, Lucas Light and Sound, Blizzard, Bungie and Bethseda would all have their gamesand movies and all other visuals, in your super efficient platform on Second Life which would allow for huge waste and disregard to best practices for optimization, and a head in the sand attitude to why the fps is falling.
  19. If LL was smart they wouldn't #1 do what you are suggesting, and they wouldn't do what they are doing now. They say don't compare meshes cost to prim cost, well honestly follow your own words LL. Forget prims give parcels a triangle/vert limit, and same with avatars to. Why? If you have ever render tested a scene you know that you have a budget based various factors within rez distance or within the rezzed scene. I think SL should be looking at the budget of what is renderable for different lvl machines, tuning them correctly with various graphics settings, and giving parcels & avatars both vert and triangle limits. Get away from PE, get away from punishing creators for using what is industry standard cause your platform's render tools are poor and under optimized. *Waits for the linden fan boys with their torches and pitchforks to burn me at the stake for expressing non prolinden views.
  20. this thread was the biggest up and then plummit I have felt in a long time.. and btw they didn't even mention mesh in the july update plans. bummer
  21. So today I imported a new model... a simple knife with roughly 4k triangles... with manually made lods was 4 prims. however the same knife divided up into 3 prims even with having more polygons/triangles was equiv to only 3 prims so how does more polygons and more prims... equal less strain and cost, verses a 1 prim slightly lower model, with nearly the same exact structure and polycount? Also I am having trouble with manual LOD's... when mesh displays anything lower than highest lvl of LOD it breaks the texture. How do I do a single texture which works with all lvls of manually made and optimized LOD?
  22. been developing a full product line, but due to contract work I constantly get pulled away from it and testing. since opening of beta last year.
  23. GOAL: I really want to see the unique creations have built with my build kits. It is something important to me, I want to see the impact (if any) I am having on peoples ability to be able to create new things, easier. Most of us who are familiar with Second Life know one of the most effective ways for a person to get the word out there is by who they know, and who that person knows, word of mouth. But what about other ways, beyond simply making a flickr which you pelt constantly with photos, having a blog which is a huge time investment to maintain or etc. I have been trying to promote a contest http://www.fe-energy.com/#!__contest . Where I am paying out over 50,000L$ to just try to get part of the over 25,000 customers I have to submit their creations using my content kits. Before this time I have lacked the tools which would really allow me to form a community as I would like, and now that I do, I am faced with a daunting tasks of trying to reach out to over 25,000 individuals across SL who own/use one of my products. Methods I am trying: Word of mouth.Advertising with blogs.Flickr & Flickr Groups.Facebook & TwitterContacting builders groups for help with promotion like Builders Brewery.Offered incentives for bloggersTried hiring a PR/Advertising and Marketing person for the store.Started up a community portal for my customers - http://getsatisfaction.com/fe-energyI feel like I am missing something important, I know that getting people to notice a community project, event or anything in SL is always an uphill battle until you reach the top. However right now this hill feels as if it was made by MC Esher. I would really appreciate inputs here, even if they may be negative or you need to slap me upside the noggin and say hey "DUH!!!" why didn't you do this? Also if you haven't already, please stop by my shop, pick up a couple of freebie sculpt kits I have if you enjoy creating, I would love to have your feedback - https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/44385 I look forward to all your responses and replies, Failed Inventor
