  1. To add to Roligs great answer, or you maybe accidentally added a second AO or animation to your attachments. In case none of the already suggested helped, check your attachments and take off everything that could possibly contain animations =)
  2. Good morning to myself! lol kicked it out. Dunno where i had my thoughts in that moment. Switching here between different engines, guess i have to wake up fully to not mix em up =) Thx Kwakk : )
  3. Heya, Now, I can't update my driver as my computer believes there's contents that could harm my computer, so I block it. Should I allow it or not? > one very simple and clear answer : if you downloaded the driver from the 'official manifacturers website' (meaning ATI, or Nvidia etc) and (not just any other website which offers the same drivers for download) - you should be perfectly safe to 'allow it'. > Sidenote to that the info that it "could" contain harmfull content is an alert your antivirus / firewall software gives you when a file is potentially dangerous, but also when it doesn't have a correct digital signature. (and that even happens with known programs at times) so just make sure as said above that the driver update is from the official manifacturer's website. To answer if you even would need a new graphic card - you first would have to provide us with the information which graphic card you have *hint-hint*.. also the other computer specs would be nice (Prozessor, RAM, Graphic card etc), and please also include which viewer you are using - it helps us to help you ; ) (PS: to add these infos please use the EDIT button on your post - do not start a new question) > It could also be helpfull to make a clean install : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 > in addition have a look at this wikipage : http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Invisible_Avatar it could be that you have a problem with the hardware skinning. Cheers, Code
  4. If it is a 'cabled' DSL (meaning not Wifi - Wifi is a total nono for SL) everything should be fine. As seen from your linked other thread, pretty much everything had been perfectly covered already by Rolig and the others. The Modem / Router is still also my biggest guess. Alongside to possible throttles in the services of your ISP. Some ISP (Internet Service Providers) have very hidden lil traps in their contracts and services. Some throttle down the upload or download speed when a certain amount of data-per second is reached, others do it when a certain amount of transfered data per month is reached and all of a sudden throttle you down to just the half speed. Even if they call it DSL *insert number here* they might make you fall beneath that number. To find out if there are any of such speed-traps in the DSL package you have, you need to talk to your ISP. but be aware - you need a 'competent' person to talk to. The usual Support-Employee will just answer: we are awesome, the product you booked is awesome, and there are no such throttles ; ) Once you have a good advisor on the phone, i'd suggest maybe looking what package options or other options they offer to enhance your experience. (be carefull they do not try to sell you the 'company-mega-pack-direct-line"-offer..well you know what i mean lol ) Another good thing would also be to get them to send a new router/modem, or run a test on yours (yes they can do that from afar - the result isn't always 100 % reliabale, but might be a hint, or at least make them send you a replacement) Then the only other thing noone mentioned so far (as long as i did not oversee it - i read the whole other thread, but who knows : )) is the bandwith settings in the viewer. Tweaking those can help you improve a lot as well. Torley had dropped a good Tutorial on that here : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Tips-and-Tricks/QUICKTIP-Get-less-lag-in-seconds-by-increasing-your-Maximum/ba-p/670217 PS: it might not always be the right choice to 'up' the settings, if that is giving you more trouble you can also try to check for the generally best balance which is the half of your DSL's 'download' speed. Needless to say that secondlife isn't like browsing the web, or watching youtube videos. (which seem to be working fine for you). It has to transfer and download a 'lot' of data, and thus is quite demanding. But to be fair.. every other gaming / platform of a similar complexity, does so too, and are similar demanding and can cause problems : ) PS: possibly also make a harddisk check. If the write/read speed isn't optimal, or maybe even has I/O errors that could possibly also lead to having the client give up when 'loading world' due to the massive amount of data it has to write. Just a guess. - to run a checkdisk (check your filesystem for errors) - to find out if the harddrive itself is okay, figure what manifacturer it has and download a testtool from their website. Since everything else already has been said, and i added my 2 cents as well. I really hope you can get your issues fixed! Cheers, Code.
  5. It would help if you could provide us with the technical Specs of your machine. (graphic card type and nr. , processor type , RAM and so on ) That would defenitally help to determine what could be the problem in your case : ) (To do so, use the edit button on your original post, and add the information. (please do not start a new entry)) A general guess is the graphic card driver. Make sure you are up to date and having the latest driver versions installed for your card. Possibly you also need to tweak a bit with the Open GL settings in the driver control panel. PS: and just in case of (sometimes we oversee the smallest details) make sure you have chosen the "water reflections" in the graphic settings. settings-screen: http://prntscr.com/1eyrob (you can of course choose other settings then everything, it depends on how much your machine can handle, just test the different settings)
  6. ...........just being practical ............. and welcome back to the forum **Only uploaded images may be used in postings**://secondlife.i.lithium.com/i/smilies/16x16_robot-happy.gif" border="0" alt=":robothappy:" title="Robot Happy" /> thanks ! *waves back excessively* : )
  7. all of the above answers in combination are perfectly correct: 1. ) Make sure you have, or get the permission of the skirt creator to alter/edit the object. And ask for the files to do so. (see 2.)) 2. ) Now you would need either the original file (obj, blend, fbx, dae.. ) or the original sculpty map (*) to import / open it in the 3D software you are using. (Blender, Maya, 3DSMax, or similar) (* needs the above mentioned primstar plugin - in case you are using Blender to edit the mesh, and other solutions for 3DSMax etc) 3.) Then edit the model and / or export it as DAE file. 4. ) This file can now be re-imported into secondlife, via the meshupload. (you need to be verified for meshupload, by doing the IP tutorial) If you want a 'stiff' static object that's it with the steps you have to do. In case you planned to make it mesh and have it 'rigged and weighted' to behave better and move along while walking, sitting etc, then i will have to forward you to check our forum posts again for tutorials and helps on the secondlife armatures and rigging / weighting. This is a complete own subject again. The best is, in that case, to come back to here and post screenshots and ask concrete questions about certain steps you need help with, or where you have a problem to figure out how to do it. (Edited)
  8. So its just rotate the mesh and the armature on that direction, and then in the weight painting options select 'mirror X'? "X-axis mirror won't reflect what you already have, it will reflect what you do from that point on. In a new blend file, tab into edit mode on the default cube. Click on x-axis mirror, then grab a vert in positive x side and move it around. You should see the corresponding verts on the other side move also." - So yes it is one possibility to 'start' that way, when editing to keep tje paintings on both sides the same. - Another more effective way (imho) is to use the Mirror-Modifier. Split your model into a half, and delete one of the halfs. Then you add the "mirror-modifier" http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Modifiers/Generate/Mirror This one will not only mirror the mesh, it will also perfectly mirror all weights and adjustments that are being made to them. And it will do so on the fly / while editing. It also mirrors seams and everythig else. And even the posing will be emulated correctly. I.e. If you mirror your dress and you go into posemode with the skeleton and do movements to test the dress, you will notice that the mirrored side perfectly 'only' reacts to the bones of the opposed side. (instead of just also moving along when you move bones on the side of the original half mesh) It will do this as long as the group names and bone names are conclusive and within the blender name conventions (which is correct for the most downloadable skeletons for the SL avatar) Working with the mirror modifier is a breeze, when you got to know it : ) Once you are done, you apply the mirror modifier and make the model become 'one'. (as long as your model is symetric this is the best way to easily work on weights for both sides of a model, non-symetric works too but u might need to re-edit the parts later that are 'not equal' on both sides- which isn't a big hurdle either : ) )
  9. I’ve seen them listed just their representation does not show up in weight paint view... bit tricky when your trying to adapt them to a differing clothing layer but it's probably better to apply them from scratch - most likely means these 'certain' groups are empty. There are some of the bones that do not have influence like the mSkull. So if that doesn't show any weights - that is perfectly normal. - If you want to emulate / inherit the same weights / similar weighting to the default avatars, you can copy the weights over to yours. Just make sure that the topology is similar to make it work. in blender below 2.65 you could use the copy boneweight scripts. http://blog.machinimatrix.org/bone-weight-copy-in-blender-2-52-6/ in blender 2.66 and above you can use the now inbuild / native weight transfer tools: http://w11.zetaboards.com/SFxT_Mods/topic/8324348/1/ - Or stick to starting with automatic, or even empty weights. If you know already which groups are important and should have which kind of influences. I now leave them well alone and stick with the incredibly inaccurate stock armatures and laughable avatars - they might have their lil quirks and all, but they are not as inaccurate as you might think. Rather 'limited' due to their set of bones and the fact that they had been optimized for this exact engine. Same goes for the avatar, it is an optimized model, which surely could have spared a few polygons here and there, but most of them are there for the ability to size / shape it. I personally would have maybe shaped things a bit different, but thats more of a design / taste question. And afterall a game model always suffers from the need to be fairly low poly, there will always be sacrifices to be made. =)
  10. Your problem might be similar to this one: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/windows-8-problem/td-p/1793481/page/1 Generally most Secondlife viewers (the original one included) should run on windows 8 Most likely it's not the viewer, but the drivers in your windows 8 system. And 'windows preview drivers' as you mentioned sounds like we just might have your problem right there. Some drivers are still new and some even still in testphase (due to windows 8 being still fairly new) so they also could cause problems. in that case you might need to experiment a bit and try different driver versions. (Graphic card, Motherboard etc) Visit the website of your graphic card manifacturer (AMD / Nvidia etc) and check for driver variations, new versions, and also patches or hotfixes. It also might be that some drivers are still missing, like motherboard drivers etc. Of course if you tried maybe older versions of viewers, or maybe viewers that are not supported anymore, or too outdated versions those would fail as well. And also the not so common viewers often do not do well with changes to windows 8, because they don't have programmed these to support it. You should also try to run your other viewers in compatiblity mode and see if that helps (right click the exe and enable the compatiblity mode to any former OS version: W7 / Vista etc) If none of the above helps, use the forums search there are many entries about windows 8.
  11. As Rolig already said it's most likely not the viewer's fault. Poseballs can 'fail' in certain cases - just a few examples i can think of right now: - They have been rezzed in a noscript-zone, making them just behave like an ordinary unscripted prim. Solution: Make sure you rezz or test them in a zone where scripts are enabled. - Or you are using an AO where the Sit animation / or currently played animation has a higher priority then the ones in the poseball. Solution: in that case try turning off your AO and test the poseball again - You could be stuck in an animation, thus the poseball animations won't work Solution: to fix this choose : Me->Movement->Stop Animating Me, and try the poseballs again - Some poseball systems come with menues that allow the owner to restrict their usage to certain persons, or persons belonging to a certain group. Solution: To be able to use those you have to be allowed / or make sure you have set the right group as your active group. The only 'viewer based' poseballs i can think of are some that rely on functionalities from the 'restrained life viewer', if you try to use them while being on another viewer they will not work.
  12. Heya japonica7, You can easily change your email address on the Second Life website: Login to your Dashboard. On the left, click Account, then click Contact Information. Enter a different email address. Enter your current password for verification purposes. Click Save Changes. Shortly afterwards, your old email address will also receive a "Second Life Email Changed" email to confirm that the change was done by you, the actual account holder. The password requested is the same you need to 'login' to your secondlife-account page. Should there be a problem and it just won't accept your password in this certain page. i'd suggest either making a resend passwort request: https://secondlife.com/my/account/request.php - this will send you the assigned password to your 'current' mailadress. Also sometimes there are problems when several accounts are assigned to the same e-mail. If that could be the case, or if you can not succeed with the above mentioned steps, it is adviseable to contact the support team, which you can do here : https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ For further information about password and account data, have a look here : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Password-and-account-information/ta-p/700017
  13. In addition to the suggestions like switching your units to metric etc, it can also be a help to get an avatar model into your scene. This often helps estimate certain measurements / sizes of objects seen in relation to it. (just don't forget to remove the avatar model from the scene again / or make sure you have the 'selected only' option on for the export to DAE) The avatarfiles you can download here : http://static-secondlife-om.s3.amazonaws.com/downloads/avatar/avatar_mesh.zip (or here : http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Clothing_Tutorials > Second Life avatar meshes )
  14. As Domson already said: if you do not provide a bit more information and also maybe screenshots of the actual physics model etc it is hard to help you. The SL mesh upload system is actually not shocking. it might have its little quirks and some bugs, but generally you can make things work when you know how they work. Giving up so easily without even really trying is a big nono =) so if you feel like giving it a second try just drop more info and more screenies and i am sure there will be a solution found.
  15. I stick with Roligs reply as it sums up nicely the decisions a creator has to make. And we do not want to harm our customers doing so. Rolig explained in a good way what would possibly bring you to make such decisions about your product. For a customer it's of course always bothersome when you figure you bought something that just dropped in price the next week or even day. But if this would be forbidden / prohibited.. think about all the supermarkets who sometimes change their prices and offers on a daily basis to make the offer fit to the current needs / requests. You can ask 'nicely' for a refund of the difference or at least a bit, or any other arrangement. As long as there was no documented contract involved that guaranteed you to have semi exclusive rights on this for X-amount of time, and that the price of the product won't change - then there is nothing wrong with it nor illegal =)
  16. it is a bit hard to say, since you could return them i would assume that they had been rezzed on your land. otherwise you would not have the permissions to remove them. Unless the neighbour parcel is allowing anyone to remove / manage items - and in that case most likely also allowing anybody to place objects. The fact that they did not appear on your my land tab makes me rather think of the latter being the case here. (objects are counted as Rezzed where their middle/ center / pivot point is. Thus they can be on the other parcel but reach into yours) If it is a rented land / parcel i'd talk to the person you rented it from and ask if there are neighbours and if so to inform them, and if not to please check the parcel settings and ensure that no 'stranger' can rez or remove objects over there. If it's linden lab / homeland and you are premium member then i'd contact the live support. There you will get some direct help.
  17. you can either build objects with the secondlife own so called 'primitives' and link / shape / texture these to create full objects, or you can create 3D models in any capable 3D software and import these into secondlife. For the first case : http://www.uncp.edu/home/acurtis/NewMedia/SecondLife/HowToBuildInSecondLife.html For the latter (3d modeling - that would be too much to explain here and i'd forward you to our mesh forums): http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/bd-p/Mesh But be informed you can also sell scripts you made in secondlife by using the inbuild scripting editor and the secondlife native scripting language LSL, as well as the ability to sell textures / images you create. And of course also combinations of all of the above. To be able to sell any of the above on the marketplace you need to login to http://marketplace.secondlife.com/ and open / create an own shop on the marketplace website and then assign / send your items via the merchant outbox (in the viewer : Me > Merchant Outbox) to your account's marketplace shop. For further informations look here : http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-in-the-Marketplace/ta-p/700193
  18. This should help : https://www.google.com/search?q=design+houses+in+3DS+max&oq=design+houses+in+3DS+max&aqs=chrome.0.57.6147j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  19. How did this become a thread about the clean-ability of a toilet and mesh poo ? D: lol made me chuckle =) @ downthedrain: toilett looks neat so far @ chosen: i am so glad mesh does not have the capabilities of emulating smell.. i do not want to know what that world-eating-apocalyptic-monster smells like that is just about to swallow a whole spaceship and its crew !
  20. In addition to Vals and Roligs good answers, the best thing to do if someone is blatantly harassing you is to simply 'not react' to their actions anymore. The more calm and silent you stay the less "fun" they have. Think about why they are doing it ; ) just to make you angry, yelling, flipping.. getting reactions from you. Just take your steps, forward screenshots and chatlogs as suggested by the others. And for the rest ignore them, that kills the fun for them anyways. Code
  21. ... what Lindal said : ) and in addition: make sure you both are having the right profile settings, and also viewer preferences. (being shown 'online' to each other ) https://my.secondlife.com/settings/friends (or just ingame) make sure you are shown online to one another. Sometimes the online-status just lags a bit, and you are already writing with a person but the database still thinks that person is offline, which leads to you not being able to offer teleports. It mostly vanishes / is fixed as soon as the server databases are on track again. If it keeps doing so for longer a cache-cleaning (me-preferences-advanced) also can help to refresh your status.
  22. You most likely can not login due to the rolling restarts / maintenance: Rolling Restarts RC Channels Posted by Status Desk on July 9th, 2013 at 11:07 pm PDT [Posted 11:08 pm PDT, 9 July 2013] We will be performing rolling restarts for regions on Magnum, BlueSteel and LeTigre RC server channels. 24. yes you can. The topology has to be very similar though. to make it work. For blender 2.66 and above: inbuild / native weight transfer tools http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/content-creation/84171-bone-weight-transfer-blender-2-a.html http://w11.zetaboards.com/SFxT_Mods/topic/8324348/1/ For blender up to 2.65: copy boneweight scripts http://blog.machinimatrix.org/bone-weight-copy-in-blender-2-52-6/
  25. Heya Sienia, I also ran into a bit of an issue that was unexpected. Because of the shape of the dress, it had a visible inside area. When weight painting, I found that I would accidentally weight paint areas on the front and inside of the dress when I was working on the back of the dress. It was tough! I used a small amount of weight and strength but still found it happened enough to be a constant annoyance. This you can avoid by clicking the face or vertex button in the iconpanel beneath the 3 D view while you are in Weightpaint mode. These allow you then to either select vertices or faces and it will ony paint on the selected ones. http://wiki.blender.org/uploads/d/da/2.5_Blender3D_SuzanneWithZeroWeight.png (it's the little icon to the lower right - the one for vertex is right next to it in blender) Could anyone point me in the direction of some good bone weighting discussions / tutorials? I've watched Gaia's and learned a good bit, but I attempted a dress recently that made me want to drink myself to death. Why are dresses so evil? i don't know if you read through it but i have one where i go through some general issues and fixes for a rigged dress that might point out some stumbles stones to avoid or how to fix them : Rigging Thread (Mesh) In addition i always encourage people to just remove all weights if you really feel its messed up, also delete the armature modifier and just start clear / from scratch with i.e. parenting with automatic weights and then start refining from there. PS: And you will find a lot other helpfull discussions about rigging clothes in the forum. Cheers! Code : )
