  1. In SL? No, not even close, not even with all the latest skins that are made out of real pictures (the face at least) those would be the ones that could have a hope to come close but it all falls apart when you look a complete picture, even if it is a close up with a blurry back ground.

Although I would guess different people have different levels of tolerance before they start experiencing that.

(...)I always have a hard time finding things in search.(...)

I find that the easiest way to find things in search is by looking on the Groups tab.
Anything else will sometimes return no results, even if you copy paste the correct name, let alone if you only manage to get it close...

In groups (for some reason) the search function works a lot better, when you find the right group you can open the profile of the creator and on that profile you often find the direct link to the place you wanna go.

    SHAPE (customized for each head)

Don't forget to mention the Default Hair aka Bald Hair aka Eyebrow Fixer (what ever the creator decided to call it) these have a massive impact on the shape of the eyebrows and wearing the wrong one can cause the eyes to look droopy and melted.

(...)Why are they not doing it?(...)

It's simple, these add ons change the shape of the area (ence why you are complaining) so if they make their clothes to accommodate this, those clothes will look poorly fit on people that don't use these addons. As is there are already leading mesh body brands that get things made for them and then every other body just gets a (often poorly) ported version, because content creators don't have the resources (or will) to port clothes properly.
The idea they would start making a specific version of their clothes to accommodate both the regular mesh bodies and the augmented ones with these add ons is not something they would be willing to do.

As many people here have mentioned, you should be detaching them when you are not using them anymore, that will make your avatar lighter in geometry, textures and scripts.

I can tell you the Belleza Jake body you can adjust foot size with the shape slider, and this will translate into the size of any rigged footwear.

Thanks for the positive reviews Aidy, but I was wondering why sims felt they needed to protect people by banning vampire play. Does it somehow make some people afraid to visit or shop?

It's simple, think of bloodlines as a pyramid scheme.

Because of that in the old days A LOT of these bloodline players would just go to popular places and spam pretty much anyone with bite requests, because "the more you bite the merrier!"
A lot of people had no clue what all this was and they were getting these prompts every few minutes from people they didn't know, and even if they kept pressing Deny over and over again it was still annoying to get these constantly and THAT was the major objection people had, not their names being listed outside of SL since the vast majority of targets didn't even know that was a thing.

The free Garlic Necklace stops all this, but as far as I can remember that came out quite a while later thanks to all the complains bloodlines was getting.

The problem with all this is, and this shouldn't go without saying, is people that didn't want to participate in the game (or even know what the hell it was) had to actively take steps to get out of it, which needless to say should NOT be the case.
No one should be required to look something up so they can opt out of it.
The aforementioned garlic necklace wasn't a common knowledge thing and for that a lot of people just settle with pressing Deny a couple dozen times a day, and even if someone told them about it they were still expected to get it and wear that scripted object made by some people they didn't know and probably didn't even like.

With all that a lot of clubs just labeled "bite requests" as harassment (rightly so) and some places carry it on till today. If you can imagine getting a dozen or so random friend requests a day, you can understand how it was.

  7. As far as I know, and depending on the group, they still do all that.
Perhaps in a more controlled environment were they set up the scenarios with people they know rather than relying on randomly approaching other people that they don't, which more often than not never ends well or at least it's not a fun experience.

As you've mention, both RL and in on SL these groups have other missions, in SL in particular they tend to focus on what works best and is more enjoyable.

  8. I can do you one better, there are groups in SL dedicated to SAR that operate all over the grid, normally in the public waterways.

You can find some of these groups in world, there are two which are particularly active and one of them sounds like just what you are looking for, look up the group named United States Navy SL created by Izzy Harcassle and take it from there.

(...)If that's any statistic to go by, then I'd be relatively certain in saying that your metric is off by a landslide.(...)

So you're using anecdotal evidence of a small sample size to prove my estimate wrong, by a landslide no less!

I can always present you mine, which is a few hundreds of SL users that I've help set up SL over the years, part of that help includes them sending me their system specs and over 95% of them have laptops with no discrete GPU.
So my sample pool being vastly larger than yours puts the statistical evidence on my side, which since LL doesn't do hardware surveys or at least do not make those public is the only thing we have to go by, but I would love to see you prove there are over 100 concurrent users of SL right now running it on RTX cards.

  10. Besides the temperature that has been mentioned, are you running it on battery or plugged in?

Even when it's new, it's not a good idea to run a laptop on battery while on SL, for several reasons but especially when with age your battery starts getting degraded.

If you are looking for a program to read temperatures, try "Open Hardware Monitor" I'm not gonna paste a link because I don't think these forums allow that, but look for the .org URL, and no place else.
It's free, it's light, doesn't need to be installed and it tells you a load of information about your system.

Oh, fine. Good to know! My answer came just because of my personal experience (I was too short) so I was required to change my avatar look.

That depends on where you are, with who you are and what you're doing.
Some clubs have personal rules about minimum hight, they will also get upset if you are half the size of your partner.

Careful there! How about the number of former active users who gave up because SL became too laggy for them to enjoy?

    I know several.
I also know people that come into SL, set all preferences to max because that's what they do in every video game, drop their jaws when they see that gives them 15 FPS, go away and don't come back.

The problem is, content creators end up in [censored] contests and to exacerbate the issue, users will "give the crown" to the one that goes more over the top and label that as "high quality."

Here's an example of a little prop that even in the most modern best looking video game would have a fraction of the geometry and texture detail shown here:

  14. Are you trying to change the eyes with the body HUD?

Are you other HUDs working alright?

It would be useful if you could post a picture, it sounds like you might have something in front of the Belleza HUD and that is why you can't click on it, have you tried detaching every other HUD before starting to work with the Belleza Body HUD?

You shouldn't just minimize a HUD, because depending on how they are built they can still block each other (even if you don't see them) every time you are done with a HUD, detach it, leaving it attached can cause all sorts of problems and bog you down.

  15. Here's some options that should improve your performance, besides Draw Distance: 128, like others have said already.

Max # of non-impostor avatars: 6, this is a less aggressive form than jelly dolls, you can still see the avatars and they can switch from 2D to 3D very quickly.
Shadow Quality: 0.75, to go under 1 you need to go to Phototools, press ALT+P.
Water Reflections: Minimal, SL uses a very old technique for their water reflections, they can easily make your viewer 10+ FPS lower.
Depth of Field: Off, this one really hammers your system if you get the camera close to something that produces and intensive blur on the background.
LOD: Between 2 and 3, say 2.750, regardless of what vendors tell you to do, having it at 4 (or higher...).

I also like to limit my FPS to 30 (yes there is an option for that in Firestorm) because if I leave it unlocked I can go anywhere between 25-280 and that shift is annoying, so I go for stability by limiting it it only swings between 25-30 making my over all experience much more enjoyable because it's a stable one.

Also, the windlight you choose can affect your FPS too, try leaving your camera static ans cycle between a few to see, sometimes they can do a massive difference.

With all that said, and as others have mentioned, SL is not only old, the assets people create for it are far from optimized, someone mentioned a handful of objects taking 100 MB, I have a pair of shoes that that alone takes over 80 MB, all this creates the perfect storm so there is nothing on the market that can reliably run SL and a constant high frame rate.
Hope my suggestions will help you as they don't impact visual fidelity too much, but will get your SL running at a higher and more stable frame rate.

  16. 1) Don't tell anyone anything you don't want them to know
    2) Don't give anyone the rights to edit your objects or track you on the map if don't want them to
    3) Don't accept any item a stranger might give you

Pretty common sense stuff, apart from that, learn to brush off anyone that claims they will hack you, almost always those people can barely change their own WiFi password, let alone hack anyone...
If someone is saying things you don't wanna hear, BLOCK them, don't file a report over things like "this person called me a bad name" that report will take days if not weeks to be looked at.
If someone is bumping you or overall messing with your avatar, just teleport away, when someone does that to you they want attention, if you fight them they get it, if you just go do anything else you defeat them.

  17. You need 3 things to do Machinima.

    1) Capture software.
    2) Edit software.
    3) A script.

By a script I mean an idea of what you wanna do, often times believe it or not this is the hardest part.
So keep it simple at start, and short too, trust me you'll thank me later.

For capturing, someone already mentioned the built in capture tool of Windows 10, that will work for you but you can get a better quality video from some other tools.
OBS is free and widely used, although it might be intimidating for a beginner, so skip that for now but keep it in the back of your head for the future.
Other than that, you graphics card manufacturer also offers free capture software.
Nvidia gives you Shadowplay, AMD gives you ReLive.

For editing a video you don't need anything fancy, trust me, don't jump on the pro level stuff, all you need is something that will string together your clips and crop them.
Good news is there is a lot of simple and very cheap programs these days. The last one I used was Filmora, you asked for a link for some machinima here's some I did:

  18. Rule 1: Make sure you can afford it on your own.

Don't expect to make some money back with rentals or donations, you have to make a calculated investment, so make sure you can afford it on your own for months if not years to come.
I see sims, RP and other wise, springing up all the time and they go as quick as they come. As far as RP ones I've even seen some that take so long to build they never get to the phase where they try to get people to rent to cover the costs of the place and it just dies before it even officially opens.

Also, in your specific case, regarding a combat RP sim, good luck with the cheaters and everything around that point.
Anyone with a decent computer and skills that annihilates someone running SL at 10 FPS will be accused of cheating, and then you will have genuine ones that just can't help but spoil it for everyone.

You didn't mention a theme, but that's always a catch 22, in one hand you want as many players as possible, and that means few limitations, on the other hand when you place not limits on what an avatar can be you went up with an incoherent mess where everyone follows nothing but their own rules, which always ends up in a city of 100 "last surviving members of so-and-so species."

I wish you good luck in your project because you will need it.

I'd be careful if I were you, I know someone with over 400K items on the inventory and her avatar is basically unusable, she can't even delete or empty her trash folder anymore without disconnecting. Official LL support says the only way is to blank her inventory.
So if you can still delete items, I'd suggest you start to before your account starts getting locked up and unusable.

    Why do people hate TMP?

I'll tell you my story, if you care to read it.

Back when TMP came out they were about the only male mesh body on the market apart from Aesthetic, but even that one wasn't competing directly in my opinion, much less others such as Jomo. If memory serves me right, the Slink Male body came months after.
I was already using mesh hands and feet, but there was no denying a full mesh body was a "game changer" when it came to visual presentation, and as much as I didn't like the overall shape of TMP, I ended up getting it and made it work for me with my edits.
I got the Deluxe version, that was L$5000 in a time where Maitreya had already disrupted the market coming in at L$2650 about half of what TMP, Belleza and Slink were asking for theirs. Still, as far as male bodies went there was no other game in town so it's not like I had a choice, and yet people today day dream of an SL where there is only one "unified body" anyway, moving on...
This one is just a side note, but, out of the box the body came preset to be used with their own mesh heads, I remember seeing so many people that didn't know how to "fix" this and did the most bizarre things to try and hide it, plus even the ones that figure out how to set the neck for the default heads not always knew how to use the blend tattoo layers to smooth the neck joint. I helped about a couple of dozen of people fix themselves only because TMP had their targets set on making even more money at the expense of everything else, a problem exacerbated by their horrible tutorials.

As time passed Signature Gianni and Belleza Jake came on the market, both of these were far cheaper than TMP, they also have normal and specular maps, as well as their hands rigged to the Bento skeleton.
Meanwhile, TMP that promised life time updates had... nothing. They never even fixed the alpha HUD, there was no area toggles on it meaning you had to work around that to avoid having to click a million areas. As time went on it became more and more clear there weren't any updates coming so I did what most people did and just jumped ship to another brand.
Eventually TMP just did their massive discount, 1/10 of the original price, and while by then I hadn't seen a TMP body in the wild for a long time, apparently there were a load of upset people because not long before that they had just paid full price, even if I don't know who would do such a thing if not out of ignorance.
There is also the fact the whole applier things work off their servers and that not only means there will likely never be an Omega option, the appliers will also stop working if they ever shut down their servers which I frankly thought it was going to happen when they put their bodies for discount.

Also on this topic there is the way they handled their business, so disclaimer the following paragraph is not a first hand account, it's rumors and should not be considered as anything but.
Apparently TMP were horrible to work with, they would often deny dev kits, and when they didn't they wanted clothes to be made exclusive for their body as they were allegedly trying to go for a monopoly, such is the dream of some people on these very forums.
The customer service was allegedly useless too.

So then, after all this time, what have they brought to the table?

Well, they have an all new body they call Legacy to compete with todays offerings on the market. Horrible name by the way.
Their Classic body, also horrible name, is the good old TMP body, with minor changes so some of the TMP clothes no longer fit it but hey, that coupled with Bento hands and specular/normals means they are charging L$5000 or, if you have the old one, they will sell you this one at a discount, L$2500... for what essentially is a Bento update that everyone else shipped for free...

And that is why you see so many people displeased with TMP, myself included, I know I will not spend another L$ in their store. My Deluxe body, with all things considered, wasn't worth the L$5000 the only thing that "made it worth that" was the fact there was nothing else on the market at the time, and that is just the worse reason there is to get something.
