  1. Just some of my own observations:

PayPal tax reporting is required when the sender identifies the product as goods and services to the IRS. This requirement applies once you receive $600 USD or more from this type of payment. Although this transaction is reportable by PayPal, it's possible that the transaction is not taxable.

So is the "cash out" considered Goods and Services?  If yes, then who has the Goods and took benefit of the Services TIlla?

Also, in lieu of "panic mode" remember the reporting guidelines,

So...how would you (the general you) propose LL increase revenue?  They are, I assume, not a non-profit business.

I'm certainly not thrilled with the increases in fees either but honestly, for me, It's still a rather inexpensive form of entertainment.

We all want different things as far as the infrastructure of SL is concerned which involves hiring people.  That costs more money every day.

LL is NOT - a non profit business.

I don't know what their overhead is, but based on the difficulty getting a human on the phone at their office and the fact their office hasn't moved in 2 decades, I'm going to have to say other than the AWS portion, not much compared to the 3+ million a month they collect in Land fees.

LL could collect sales tax on your Linden purchase but they do not at this time.  THEY cover that cost themselves.  The difference between what they collect in the fee and what they pay out in sales tax would be interesting to know, however.

From LL's blog post last year...

"We will continue to absorb the taxes at point-of-sale purchases such as one-time L$ buys, first-time premium subscriptions, and name changes. At some point in the future we will need to begin passing those taxes on to you. We will make another announcement when those charges are phased in."

So the 3+ million a month they make on Land doesn't cover the AWS servers, office and seemingly 2 employees one of which we cant talk to on the phone?

    Seems right.

I don't know many place online where they don't charge sales tax or some other fee added onto the price of whatever product you're buying and Ls are a product.  Sales tax in San Francisco is nearly 8.7%.  They COULD charge sales tax also on top of fees so...

If you live in San Fran they probably could.  Wouldn't be legal anywhere else.

I was having a bad day and it just got worse. Raising the buy and sell fees will really hurt the economy. For buyers and sellers. Very bad idea.

SL is my ONLY job. My only source of income and it's already a stretch to pay all the fees and keep enough to live on.

You keep raising the fees and giving nothing for the extra charges.

I will probably have to sell my land to eliminate tier, then I can drop premium and just rent a much smaller place as a little showroom with a few rezzers to make up for these extra fees and the drop in sales from others who won't buy as many Lindens to spend in world, due to those increased fees.

Then people won't be able to see all my products in world and my sales will drop even more. Great.

Mine also - I was as adjusted as I could get to giving up 125 - 150 dollars a month between cashing out and converting it to spendable dollars, now I'll have to get used to giving up 150 - 175 dollars a month, so to buffer that some I'll have to run my sales at a lesser discount and half as often, so really both me and the customer will suffer for it.

That being said,  I could see fee increases, if we were getting value added across the board, but when I call corporate and want to talk to a human, as I've been an active contributing part of this endeavor for 15 years, I'd really like to be able to do that.  But it seems services rendered are also getting smaller.

  6. So - basically one or two people man the offices now at LL - takes 85 times calling to get a human on the phone, and then you have to go thru billing, or you just get redirected to the website and hung up on and now on top of it 5% of the money I earn goes right back into LL's pocket, PLUS the percentage to ship the money off to Paypal or Skrill.

I'll tell you whos getting the shaft here, the creators, the go getters, thats who.

  7. HEY!  Instead of all this bull***** that doesn't help beginner scriptors, how about somebody leave some script examples since you all decided to break all my updaters?  I mean you guys just go off and change whatever you want and take no mind to stuff that's been working perfectly fine for half a decade ... no big deal right?

Blogs are wonderful things for LL news

I like how they tout "It will be available to Premium members" like it still wont coast almost 40 USD to make the change.  Its a serious , SERIOUS rip off, how about, charge NON PREMIUM members the 40 bucks and limit the frequency of Premium members name changes to say 90 Days?

Just a rant here but ...

I mean hell they already make something in excess of 3 million USD a month on land and god knows what on Linden exchange fees,  just keep raping the people that pay your bills and soon you wont have any people....

Using llPatrolPoints? I've never tried that, but it has a "pause at each point" option, which might be on.

If you're in a sim with no idle time, pathfinding will be jerky. Pathfinding seems to have lower priority than almost everything else that uses server CPU time. At each patrol point, it has to plan the next move, which takes some resources.

SL pathfinding just doesn't work very well if you have specific destinations. "Wander" works OK, because if it's doing the the wrong thing, you can't tell. Motion to a goal, not so much. That's why I had to write my own system.

     llNavigateTo(llList2Vector(points, i),[FORCE_DIRECT_PATH, TRUE]);
                moving = TRUE;

It works pretty flawlessly on the sim, my only complaint with it is the pauses ...

How are you moving them? KFM is smooth and pause-free for the chain of moves in one call to llSetKeyframedMotion. SL pathfinding is smooth in open space, but gets weird in tight spots. Making repeated calls to llSetPos tends to be jerky.

pathfinding  - list of coordinates in globals - simple character stuff, just seems to be a 1 second pause between 1 coord to the next coord cant seem to get rid of it.

If the mouse controls the vehicle while in mouselook the way most ACS script-kit vehicle creators do it... I'm not gonna buy any of your stuff. I'm not saying it's bad or it's wrong or anything like that whatsoever. Though, do be very clear in your pre-sales descriptions that you are using that function and (or) provide a pre-sales demo that someone can drive. I like to go into mouselook and actually look out the windshield and turn my head and look around or look down at the dashboard, etc. while driving or flying or sailing or railroading... Just saying, as some feedback from a potential customer. :)

Mine allow you o do just that - or shoot a gun ...or aim and shoot a turret while driving ... or just look at the bird poop on your side windows ...

Timer events and a state machine.

At the top, there's a "behavior" script, which decides what to do. My current test script checks for new avatars entering the parcel, and goes to greet them. If no one needs to be greeted, it picks a patrol point randomly from a list on a notecard and goes there, then waits for the time listed on the notecard. This keeps my NPCs looking busy.

Movement is set up as a library. The user interface is much like system pathfinding - there's Pursue and NavigateTo. You call one of them, and the character tries to go there.  You get a link message back on completion or failure.

I won't link to it on Github so as not to be accused of advertising. But you can IM me. It's not a product yet, anyway, or ready for use by others; R&D and demos for now.

I usually leave some NPCs running around my place in Vallone. Having busy NPCs around makes me work on their social skills. At normal walking speed and faster, this becomes important. At creeping zombie speed, people will tolerate worse behavior, because you have plenty of time to get out of their way, even if they're too stupid to get our of your way.  We need to give NPCs behaviors people can live with. Otherwise, users will hate the things. Come over, check them out, and comment, please.

Any hard and fast way to eliminate the pause I have noticed when a Character moves between co-ordinates?

I'm not selling NPCs at this time. But I usually have some pathfinding characters running around Animats's Advanced Vehicle Development in Vallone. I also usually leave one running at Animesh 1 on the beta grid. If you go there, they'll find you, approach, say "Hello", wait a bit, and walk off.

Now that overloaded sims are the new normal, it's tough getting pathfinding to work reliably. My characters have extensive recovery code, yet they still get stuck occasionally. Pathfinding sets a heading and speed for each character, and updates that course when it gets around to it. On an overloaded sim, characters continue too far, blind, because the pathfinding system is responding slowly. They get stuck in objects or even go off the parcel.

How do you implement the pause in the list of coordinates?

  15. None of my TV's will play movies, not from Crackle, not from any other website that posts movies.  Anyone have an explanation for this?  (Talking Media on a Prim of course).  They either redirect to a white screen or they reset the TV.

Abuse?  No. That would be stretching the definition of the word. It looks like a lot to lose in a transaction, but it's impossible to tell whether there's something wrong without knowing all the details.  That's a pretty normal amount to lose in international exchange fees if PayPal is transferring from USD to your local currency, for example. I'd suggest looking at all the details in your PayPal account and then talking it over with them.

No currency transfer fee, I live in the US.
