  1. Ok My Bowling alley became the next victim of the Linden send backs.  I'm honestly not surprised but I thought i would send out a subtle warning with all those with public places.  Seems like things are harsher.

I have plans now to reduce my spending in Second Life by half.  I'll likely only keep 1 possibly two homes in Bellisseria.

Community has been fun as Eva as Slenderman as Squirrel but its just not the welcoming friendly place it was at the beginning.

No hard feelings to anyone not even people i don't get along with.  My disappointment is 100% with Linden Labs.

    ❤️ Eva

Ending well and forgiving my enemies

The Lindens have said in different occassions (in interviews, etc.) that they would listen to any group of residents that came up with a doable well thought plan and a structure that could serve the community.

The BBB is run by volunteers and they were running a smaller operation that could be scalated before they approached the Lindens. That building and those prims is really public land. I don't see favoritism in there. Anybody who wants to put the same time and work they did can get help from the Lindens.

The reason why there are no more people doing these kinds of things is because most get burnout. People are always suspicious and quick to complain. Complaining is easier than putting in the hours and work necessary to create something for the community.

I am not in the BBB group, I don't have a passport nor I will get one, not my thing, but I think it's a pity that many people who try to do things for the community stop doing them or decide not to do them because after all the hours, the work, the money spent... it usually ends up in drama and accusations from people who just complain without bothering to put in the effort to do something "better" themselves. If you don't like what somebody is doing, do better.

Nah... it's total favoritism.  There was a Bellisseria Citizens group doing all sort of great things for the community long before a BBB.  If any argument can be made someone should have a 937 LI HQ on a private bellisseria homestead region it is Citizens.  With that said, i don't think any of these groups should be given special houses.  We hear so much about Bellisseria "community" and yes there is a community but by and large most Bellisserians stick to their own home or go about their business in other areas of SL.  So I think even the very best of these groups really are only serving a handful of people in comparison to who is out there.  Go door to door ask people if they even know what BBB is or Bellisseria Citizens or Riverbridge or any other user made group.  I think you would find the sound of crickets striking.

And the very fact that a resident in Bellisseria had her very tastefully done and arguably In-theme roof returned to her just a few days ago.... yet another group is given this grand home with nearly triple the LI that anyone else would get is absolutely scandalous to people who struggle just to find a half way decent spot in Bellisseria to begin with.

So yeah... my hot take on this matches up exactly with Adrianne's...  This is favoritism...

And even if it was not... IT was a very POORLY executed decision to not be transparent about this at all.  To hide it under a rug like nobody was ever going to notice this ONE group gets something nobody else has.  It should have been announced by LL... They should have said WHY it was given... and if what you say is true they should have said HOW you can get one of these too (if indeed that is true).  With that said i dont think they should be giving these to anyone.

The Linden Homes are supposed to be residential in theme and usage.  I understand creativity, but most residents use their home as a residential place to decorate as a home.  Its no different than a real life HOA that keeps neighborhoods from turning into a free for all.  While the bowling alley is well done, its not a residential home any longer, its a commercial build.  It may not be making L but it is also not a residential home at this point.  If one is allowed, then you have to allow everyone that has an idea for a non-residential build, then Belli is mainland, end of story.   One big reason for my alts to be premium at this point is because Belli isn't the mainland and it continues to be a residential place with guidelines that prevent chaos from taking over.  Not everyone is skilled at building and one persons creativity may not be something the rest of the residents want next door.  It's not to hurt anyones feelings, its to keep things fair and consistent.

Ok then what about the 100's of builds used throughout Bellisseria and have been well established for nearly 3 years?  Are you proposing that the Lindens begin systematically going back through all the themes and removing them one by one?

Consistency would actually be to allow them since they always have been allowed in the past.  What you are proposing is inconsistent with past practice in Bellisseria.  Patch Linden himself and even some of the Moles have come and visited these spots and hung out at them with residents.  Is he now supposed to go back to all those places he visited and annihilate them?

I don't want to sound grumpy but I'm with Sam here. I adore the idea, but if they won't let a simply pitched roof that actually blended perfectly into the modern home design stay, and can be commonly found on modernist designed homes, there is not way they can permit this. It takes the home so far out of theme it's not funny. Cute as hell, but that'd be the biggest double standard I've recently seen.

Why not allow both? Look at EVERY theme in bellisseria... There are cafes, libraries, Bureacracies (on their own freaking region with triple the LI), there are art galleries, clubs with events and dances at them, I've even seen a train station as well as an arcade.  All of these things are in all the other themes. And NONE of these things have ever been sent back or disallowed as long as they were not selling actual things or doing commerce.  So why all the sudden all this strictness over Newbrooke?

Is Bellisseria going to turn into something where people are always walking on eggshells that any spark of creativity they have first needs to have some HOA approval first.  Maybe we need a thread where we post our things for permission first, the ultimate big brother micro management of building.

Please Sirs, can I keep my kitchen?

    @Patch Linden @Abnor Mole?

I built in the covered porch in the end. Maybe 1 in 100 houses are lucky enough to not have a road or a fence in the way. Looking in a fence 1 m from me? 😕

So I used it for a spacious kitchen!

    kit_002.jpg

Lovely add-on Marianne.  I honestly think its sad that this new era of strictness has made us feel like we need to take to the forums to get permission for every little add-on we do.  In any other theme none of us would have even thought to seek out permission for something as mild as that.  I do hope that the Lindens read this entire thread with a listening ear to very very real concerns.  Concerns of In Theme building, concerns of artistic creativity, not to mention the very real concerns of favoritism that have been show to a few while very strict policing has been show to others.

I'm sure you will be able to keep your kitchen.  But then again a couple days ago i would have been positive that a few people would have been able to keep their little roof add-ons.  I hope i get to keep my Bowling Alley too.

This is an LL investment in the community. Some will think and accuse of favoritism, but I know of at least 17 people who volunteer at the BBB. No matter who you are the BBB door is open to you. If you want to go sit on the BBB lawn, chat, have coffee you are encouraged to do so. BBB welcome's us all and have put out dispensers, an intan, plus sitting areas. The building is full of information. An event board for us all to use (just have to reach out). Photo studio anyone is welcome to use. It is the home of the working post office for Bellisseria and the ambassador information. It is a public space for the community of Bellisseria. They work to foster community actively.  This is no different than SL giving a private island for a financial charity donation.  The staff of the BBB, donate their personal time and money. Jumping on their name is funny because they even mock their name. There is humor there and it was intended.  The BBB volunteers give of themselves.  Why jump all over people who give?  Sorry I do not get this.  They hold rallies for Bellisserria and SL. They have 2 publications, passports, kiosks, license plates, driver's licenses, and the mail office.  These are things that take the BBB volunteer's time.  A lot of time.  While most of us are shopping, dancing, laughing many of the BBB are working to enrich our community and experience in SL.  It is not just holding events or giving up one of their homes... it is again time, money, and labor. Apparently hard work is noticed.  Glad to see it.

So you don't think anyone else in Bellisseria puts "time and money" into doing things for the community.  Apparently only this 1 group is deserving of this very special out of the ordinary benefit. I agree with previous posters.  This is simple favoritism nothing more nothing less.  How about Bellisseria Citizens???  I don't know a single group in Bellisseria that has put more of their time into creating community.  No Freebie HQ for Bellisseria Citizens.

On top of that there was absolutely no transparency whatsoever with this.  This home was just rolled out like nobody would notice this.  Plus nobody has even pointed out that in order to create this home a Public party beach area had to be wiped out.  How about talk to the owner of the house in the region east of the newly erected BBB home on how they feel about their view of the beach abruptly being wiped out with a house they never imagined would be erected.

Not to mention this whole debate began over a roof.  A tiny little roof add-on that was deemed out of theme or inappropriate or whatever.  I find it amazing that someone's little roof add-on is rejected all the while 1 particular community group gets special treatment with a home on its own region with TRIPLE the amount of LI that anyone else would get for a paid home.

Defend it all you want but every single person who is upset by this is absolutely within their right to do so.

I bet they'll let it stay.  The sign is a bit much, but at least it doesn't have rotating lights, lol.  They've been very tolerant of "novelty" builds in the past, letting them stretch themes, so long as they're fun and not disruptive or obscene.  SL bowling is fun.  Nika still has bowling shoes from the alley in Lionheart Estate.

Wasn't that wonderful pink "Honeymoon Hotel" camper yours?  I don't know if any of these still exist, but there also was:

    • The "toxic waste cleanup" build in Permaglow
    • The trashy camper build with the chain-link fence and used cars, people loved that
    • A Victorian funeral parlor
    • Faux shops, pubs, cafes (heck, the Lindens even have a bicycle cafe)
    • Embassies/info centers ALL OVER
    • A faux Victorian Bordello
    • Slenderman's funeral parlor log home

The camper is long gone... but I feel something has changed in the way they are approaching "in-theme" decisions... The 2 photos I saw of Newbrooke rooftop addons were very tasteful, very much in theme and yet totally rejected.   Something has changed.  And maybe they grandfather in all those older themes with add-ons.  But right now I'm feeling as though creativity is going to get crushed on this theme for whatever reason.

It's a shame, for all the things of this new theme that are unappealing the one very appealing thing about it was the simplicity of building with this theme and the lot space provided with the smaller home choices on the 1024 lots.  Most of the time I spend all my time outdoors at linden homes.  With this build its the first time I actually like what I did inside so much I'll spend more time inside this house than out.

So I'll enjoy it for the few days I get to.  But I think if this gets returned I'm just going to do as I already mentioned in previous posts.  I'll be gradually pulling down multiple accounts from premium to free.  All in all it will cut out over half of what I was paying LL.  I'm truly sad for the few residents who already had their roofs sent back, they were amazing and tasteful and as you pointed out with your list there is already a plethora of far more extreme examples of things that were tolerated/allowed.  So this feels like a new draconian move to make everyone conform.

Well, then I think it should stay.   It is often hard to get a feel for the true height of something from a picture.

I can understand LL's take on angled roofs -- because the flat roof style if very much a part of the defining look for this Theme.  However, I do think that things like yours should be allowed.  That is not changing the "style" of the roof; just adding a sign for the community area.

Its more than a sign... i created an addon that goes into the backyard essentially added one big room for the bowling lanes... and there is one middle part of the roof with a slight slant to it only to meet up and connect with the slightly taller bowling room

It does in fact use the texture pack though including the materials too in order to make it blend in with the rest of the house

I hope it gets to stay. It's the most creative use of a Linden home I have ever seen and offers a fun activity for entertainment.

In fact I have already had groups of Bellisserians wander in to stay for a game or two of bowling.  They love it... but like i said if a tiny little roof add-on can't meet their criteria i'm not sure how my Bellisseria Bowling Alley will

My home does not even come close to going over 15 meters... 11.6791 meters at the tallest

I was touring the Newbrooke region today trying to decide if I wanted to get a home there or not. I must say I found this one totally amazing build that really impressed me. I believe it used the Denver on a 1024. Not going to say where I found this and I am afraid it might get blown up by the Moles, but it really is something to see.

  12. Nobody is pressing for "clearer rules"  However it would be nice if they relax up on the current trend of harshly judging Newbrooke add-ons as "out-of-theme"  Asking for some flexibility is not asking for clearer rules if anything its just asking for some artistic flexibility.

Heyheyhey, let's not go mad.  I don't think Abnor or Patch have morphed into add-on destroyers.  I think Newbrooke is more vulnerable than any previous theme to add-ons that dramatically change its aesthetic, and I think that LL and the moles want to head that off at the pass.

    A few points:

    >> After Newbrooke was introduced, the forum blossomed with pics of RL modern homes that folks were hoping to see.   There is market for those homes, clearly.

    >> It would be extremely easy to convert one of the 512 Newbrook homes into a larger, FLW-style midcentury modern, with another whole story, more spread over the parcel, interesting new windows, etc.. People built great-looking modern homes before sculpties were even around, and you didn't have to be a great builder to do it.

    >> It would also be extremely easy to add a bunch of swooping roofs and get a Jetson's house of one's dreams.

Yes, there are lots of add-ons that convert Trads into ... larger and more dramatic traditional homes.   There are nightmare add-ons that look like barns tacked onto Vics.  But they aren't prevalent.

With Newbrooke, every Tom, Dick, and Harry can make an add-on that looks pretty OK, but makes it no longer a container home.

I'm willing to wait and see what policy enforcement looks like over time, and I hope others will too.  I think the harder you push for a policy statement, the harsher that statement will be.

Money talks... and money walks too...

if a TINY little minor roof topper doesn't pass the theme test... Then yes all those homemade addons won't either.  I just went and created a backup of mine.

Sad thing is I was one of the biggest nay sayers of the Newbrooke theme when it was first presented.  And it still has a lot wrong with it such as the 30 home per region average and the lack of interesting landscapes.  BUT when it was released a few days ago i was actually excited because they made the 512 smaller homes on the 1024 lots too.  I thought that was a HUGE compromise of things people wanted and was even able to use the extra space on the lot to build a really cool retro/modern bowling alley that i was going to share with the public.  But i dare say the add-on changes i made far outweigh a tiny little roof that got rejected.

I'll wait a while... my next premium is up in April, i think that is plenty of time to make a judgement if this has turned into a new Era of Linden Home HOA craziness or not.  But if it is and we see stuff from this theme as well as older themes being reevaluated for "in-theme" esthetics... I'm more than happy to divert a good chunk of my entertainment money out of Linden Lab and to something else.

Woah.  This is surreal to me.  That is a very slight, very well done, and in-theme change in my eyes.  You can find examples of MCM houses like that anywhere in the country.  Plus people have been talking about creating similar add ons, as well as porches, and even whole other rooms SINCE THE THEME WAS REVEALED, with moles seeming to support it.  There are several examples of this in older Newbrooke posts in this forum.

As Eva said, drive through the traditional and houseboat regions.  There are HUGE house changes, some of them barely qualifying as in-theme, and they've been there since launch.  But now we're suddenly going ultra-strict?  You guys are generally pretty awesome and applaud creativity.  That just seems like a bizarre 180 to me.

When I came to Bellisseria i had 4 premium accounts that i had already had for several years.  in the nearly 3 years I have lived there I have built lovely addons on most of my homes and my # of accounts has grown to 9.  I currently have 7 homes.  I have made a notecard of all the due dates of my premium dues (i do mine on the year long subscription).  I'm fully prepared to pull myself all the way back to my original 4 and then maybe only keep 1 or 2 houses.

If Newbrooke is also bringing about a new super strict guideline that begins to eject people's add-ons based on super picky interpretations of this subjective "In-theme" clause.... then I think they have succeeded in making Bellisseria homes as unappealing to me as the original 2010 ones were.

My first alt comes due in April... That one will be going back to a free account.

That looks like a major change to the design of the house itself, so no.

    Really???

    That slight pitched add-on???

The Traditional add-ons that are out there are far more drastic changes then that little roof topper is.  By that logic half of Bellisseria could be sent back.  There are SOOOOOO many home addons that add entire home extensions where you go out your backdoor to a whole other section of the house that is an add-on.  Honestly if you guys are sending stuff like that back I am like a deer caught in headlights right now thinking about everything else you could send back.

What about all the add-ons that people have turned into cafes, little libraries, other sorts of changes.  I just made my own backyard addon in Newbrooke and turned the inside of it into a fun game area with bowling lanes even.  Should i just pack that all up and drop that premium too?

I really think you guys need to rethink what is out of theme cause i agree with many of the other people in this thread that those roof addons not only look in-theme.  I would argue that they are MILD add-ons especially when you begin to compare them with addons for other themes that have been available on the MP and used throughout Bellisseria for 2+ years now.

  16. Stilts in general and I lop all the new home categories of Chalets, Fantasy and the soon to come Newbrooke homes into the category of... TOO MANY HOMES PER REGION...

For stilts they average out at about 23 to 24 homes per region and they are tightly packed on top of each other.  For that reason alone I don't like them.  The houseboats have a greater variety of region packing.  Some are ridiculously high like 27 homes per region at times.  But by and large its not that hard to come across regions of less than 20 homes int eh houseboats.  I've seen one that only had 5 on it.  I lived in one that only had 9 total.  Currently my houseboat is in a region that only has 16 homes.  I love it.  The access for boating tends to be better. Stilts are big, hard to fit a boat there and then you have to play boat pinball to meander through a ton of stilts to get to open water.

So I'm team Houseboat all the way

Honestly this seems dumb, just give us back our land options.

Banlines don't go very high last I knew, so there's only one reason for flying low enough to be bothered by them, and if you don't like seeing them you can disable the ability to see them viewer side.

All this does is open our homes to griefers and perverts.

15 seconds is mental, you only need a couple seconds to rezz a self replicating object and crash a sim.

    Yeah...

    NO

This is a bad idea... really bad...

If you like banlines you always have the option of using your 1024 tier and grabbing a parcel of mainland.... Knock yourself out then you have banlines.  One of the biggest reasons why many people enjoy Bellisseria is there are NO banlines.

While we are waiting (and waiting ... and waiting ...), would anyone like to hazard a guess as to where the Modern theme will be placed?  I see three pretty obvious possibilities.

    where.thumb.JPG.522b3a964edcce25f8c0b1790c3e237a.JPG

I incline toward A myself.  Since the northern coast of the chalets is missing, Modern lands could eventually be faded into the chalets in new regions, similar to the way the Vics merge with the Log homes or the Campers with the Trads, with just a set of hills dividing them.

Re: area C -- the east coast of Logland has no unfinished regions to 'hook up' to a new theme, tho I suppose one could join with new land in a park region such as Maiden Rock or Outrigger.   But I don't remember the Moles ever reworking a completed region to accommodate a new theme.  So it seems to me that a new theme in Area C might be accessed via water only.

Re area B -- The east coast of the chalets is also now completely built out, and entirely fringed with houseboats.  Again, a theme in this area might be accessed via water, or perhaps long tunnels, since the Chalets have pioneered tunnel links.

    What do you think?

A - Seems to be the most likely and practical

B - My personal favorite I would love to see them get us to Blake Sea this way instead... plus I think those houseboats would be rather undesirable if they are forever relegated to edge regions.  Kinda cancels out the purpose of having one to sail if you gotta meander through a dozen narrow houseboat regions just to get to open water.

C - I think this is really the least likely at this point and serves little value.  The edges of Logland serve a perfect end of the world type region

Thanks for that, but in my particular home, there’s no mailbox or anything. There’s a control panel just inside the front door that has choices that are: Accessory Controls; Complete Texture Sets; and, Home Detail Textures. My understanding is that not every home has this option available and so, especially after my really unsettling experience, I’m annoyed they don’t make it available in every Linden home.

BTW, the guy who came in was using voice only, and saying things like “This is a moderate region, you can’t do things like this here. You’re going to be thrown out.” And later he said “Both of you f@gs are going to die.”

I did buy a CasperSafe system but I’m still trying to figure it out. Mostly, I just wish that SL made what they are touting in the OP available in all Linden homes.

Several people have already pointed out the answer to you... I will do it again.

EVERY BELLISSERIA HOME has 2 different kinds of panels.   ONE is inside the home next to the front door.  This panel does NOT contain a security system.  That is strictly for things like changing the color of your home or locking the doors etc...

the SECOND control panel is in the form of a mailbox... it is located in front of your house just OUTSIDE the parcel boundary.  It is the same box you use to cycle through the choices of home styles.  ALSO inside that mailbox is an option to receive a content pack.  INSIDE that content pack is a Linden made security system.  You will have to rez out that system inside your parcel and use it there.

This is available in every linden home and I'm happy to swing by your house and show you where to get it if this does not explain it clearly enough.

Now if your Linden Home  is one of the old ones...

MEadowbrook, Tahoe, Elderglen, or Shareta Osumai

These are the old style homes and you can use ban lines on these if you wish.  They dont have the same set of controls as the Bellisseria Homes
