  1. I was going to paste in a photo of the "other" houses (green roofs with red "chimneys"). As they were VERY different (two sims had them) but alas they are GONE today. Ah well. Eventually the mystery will likely be solved.
  2. Yep I went to look and found them. I can't see as many as you for some reason but posted the ones I could see in the comment above this :D. Thanks. Eventually saw the "shadows" of the sims on the map. My map has never worked all that well. Not sure why. And here is the other end visually:
  3. That seems to be the prevailing rumor, but if it was announced officially, please let us know where so that we can all feel the KNOWLEDGE! As of two days ago it was reportedly still just a "best guess". Thanks. AHH. A quick look on the map supports our assumptions.
  4. And the bottom one is from the SSP region? That's my assumption LOL from the current topic on the thread, but you know about assumptions. THANK YOU. You can, I am sure, understand why folks are a little worried about frame rates . But in general the soon to be additions to the grid seem to be a big hit. Congrats to all.
  5. Note that I wasn't saying anything about the SSP regions. We are talking about he preview regions at Home Expo. I of course have no way of getting INTO the SSP regions. I am not doubting that SSP works well for you. I am also wondering (I am sure someone will ask if I don't) exactly what your system specs are. Likely higher than the average SL citizen? Maybe not. "Anecdotal" works for me. Others can do their own tests. I did TRY to keep everything as close to the same as possible. Didn't mean to offend.
  6. I did a slightly scientific test wondering if the SIMS themseleves might have something to do with the framerates. Apparently not. Here's what I did. I went to the CENTER of the Linden Home display sim which set me on a walkway between the houses and the houseboats. I turned TOWARD the houses (well we already know the other direction gives better FPS). I had 16 fps at my typical, high-ultra setting with 120 meters and LOD2 and shadows and ambient occlusion on. I then flew up to 3000 meters which is where my building pad is on LEA6. I had between 85-96 FPS there (bouncing a lot for whatever reason). In comparison, my building pad FPS is around 77FPS now (it used to be much more everywhere but even though my texture issues are back to the recent norm, I am no longer seeing 200FPS up on my building pad like I use to). I see a long thread about others having issues but haven't read it. Whatever ---- 77FPS LEA6 (just now on the EEP server) 85-96 at 3000 meters above the demo houses. 16fps looking at the back of the houses and flora at the preview sim. And here is a screenshot on the ground at LEA6. No settings were changed. Almost 42FPS
  7. Which is way so MANY of us use the viewers that DO!
  8. This is why we have derender and blacklist :D. EDIT: AND almost empty building pads
  9. Agree that they are too heavy for my taste but I tested the houses down to LOD 0 and at long distances and they held up well in the visual department -- for me anyway. Other posts on this thread suggest that is the norm.
  10. That gave me a laugh (thank you) :D. You rez the car (or bike or motorcycle or scooter etc) on you property and then use the BUILD menu to move it onto the road. Presumably the roads are for everyone to use (this from Abnor Mole). I have done that several times. There will likely (just guessing) be places where you can rez your car out ON the road (as in many parts of the mainland). And I also suspect (just guessing again) that there will be a place where you can rez your boat if you don't have a boat slip (agian, many of these on the mainland; my shop bordered one for a couple of years before I moved). Not exactly "immersive" but it works.
  11. The MAIN server channel got updated to EEP today. We can't see it of course without the EEP viewer. I have numbers also but not sure if they are newish or if they appeared today. It does seem logical that the changes are part of EEP but I have not kept up with any of that. You could ask on the EEP thread and likely get an answer quickly there.
  12. That was my thinking too last night when I looked. A bunch of those sims didn't look like viable sims.
  13. I thought that was an OFFICIAL bit of news? Is that incorrect?
  14. Well I am sure that each builder would have their own definition but simplistically, yes. You can make a window for example with plenty of detail that will also be viewable from "across the sim" at "lower LOD levels" (as in NOT 3 or 4) for 1 land impact. That same window made with prims (granted no worry about disappearing) would be (quick math in head visualizing) maybe 7 prims (and less choices of sizing unless you made the prim window more complex. That is why so many prim houses used alpha textures for paned windows. That has a completely different problem of course. Many of us remember that :D. Glad it is gone.
  15. Rez a cube. Make it the size of your picture frame more or less but THIN (best more than the thinnest it can be so that people could make the frame smaller if they want. Use the invisible texture that comes with the build menu. Attach it to your painting frame making sure it is the LAST object you click before LINKING. The frame should then have the name "object". You can change that to whatever you want. For a picture frame it might be nice to make the invisible prim a little larger than the frame and put a slight shadow on JUST the front texture to make a subtle shadow for the frame. If all of this is new to you then taking some building classes would be good. Caledon Oxbridge and Builder's Brewery both have classes still I think.
  16. As mentioned I tested down to LOD0 -- I was at 264 meters and that was enough for me (usually at LOD2 at 120). I didn't have any issues with either houses or boats. Strange their is a difference.
  17. While I do agree that the land impact (it is the download cost that is the highest) is higher than I would expect, I went back to check and found that I could cam out well over a sim distance with no breaking up even AT LOD 0. Not sure why you see triangles at any reasonable distance. Since that holding power was undoubtedly part of the criteria and since the land impact doesn't count against the 351 land impact, I don't see a problem. Yes, others could have likely had the same results with less land impact, but since the textures are very simply I doubt that the mesh is contributing too much to the lag equation. Possibly because the house was in a rezzer, I couldn't really see all the info about the build, so can't say more than that.
  18. There is a file that can cause this. It becomes corrupted in the viewer. If you can see in Firestorm then that is probably your issue. I can't find the correct Firestorm wiki page but if you chat up the Firestorm folks they can likely point you to the inventory loss page. The file name was a fair ways down on the "todo" list of that page when I had the problem. Really an easy fix, when you know what's going on. Good luck.
  19. Yes, absolutely understood that they are both not the TRADITIONAL category -- so traditional HOMES --- and the Housboats . MANY of the boat docks are in their own sims, but unless they do a lot of rearranging from the SSP staging area, there ARE some that share a sim together -- many actually if you look at the map. I don't see any problem with that.
  20. It was stated from the beginning(Town Hall meetings) that there would be different styles of housing as well as different "communities" (much I expect like the current Linden homes). They chose to show us the TRADITIONAL (that's the designation) homes and the houseboats. Since there are some new "roofs" over at SSP this last week as well as clusters of dark roofed homes in certain sims (all similar in size and look ) it is very likely we will see more styles. No idea if you will like any of them, but I am looking forward to seeing what else is available.
  21. I am just using Windows Defender now -- comes with Win10. Taking off Avast was a big first step toward recovery. I don't know if it is possible (not that techie) BUT I do know that for awhile Avast was updating "seemingly" though the Windows Update on Win10 Home (my notebook - I never saw any signs of that on my desktop as it updates at night). Then "it appeared" like Win10Home blocked that piggieback ability and I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to fix Avast which was "there" but not working - not even opening from the icon. I didn't have any issues (did a few other scans via online sites and checked malware and all OK) so just decided to let it see if it would fix itself. About a week or so later Avast came back on my notebook and it appears to be working fine. It DOES seem like there is some odd things going on with Avast and Win10. So there MIGHT be a possibility that AVAST came in and cleaned up some files even though I had uninstalled it. Not sure if that is possible, but I know that a lot more is possible than most of us think about LOL. All I know is SOMEONE came in the night and updated something and turned off my computer. Hopefully this is the end of my drama. It was a long couple of weeks. I am just using the security that comes with Windows 10, Defender. I may online scan now and then also. I lead a pretty sheltered Internet browsing life LOL so not at any great risk -- and Defender is supposed to be much better than previous Windows protection. Hope you get your issues worked out. An easy first step would be to temporarily turn off Avast (right click the icon in the tray and choose a time). Then JUST do SL stuff and see if things improve.
  22. Hopefully the end of the story. Got up this morning to find the computer off (I restart and let it do its thing in the night in case of updates so I am not bothered). To recap aside from blurry and GRAY FOREVER textures I had horrible FPS (down to 5 or 6 some places and even lower on occasion). Framerates on the ground at LEA6 were about 17. After taking off Avast and switching to Defender FPS in same location went up to 35 (what my friend had been getting when testing) and NOW ---- even though there is no log entry on Windows updates, I am getting 88 fps and better in the same spot -- like the pre issue days. So it seems like my suspicion about Win10 being a part of the issue is likely; probably no way to ever REALLY know. It is Sunday here and I doubt LL did anything in the wee small hours (lag and textures were horrible last night when taking photos). Poking @Syn Anatine
