  7. It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I've finally found a bit of time to get back the Auntie Winnie's journal and photographs. This is another that dates from relatively early on in her residence in Berlin: the back of the photograph is inscribed, in Auntie Winnie's characteristically neat hand, "Statschloss [sic] with F Nov." The Stadtschloss (or Berliner Schloss) was, originally, a 16th-century residence for the Electors of Brandenburg and, after much expansion and modification at the beginning of the 18th century, for the Prussian royal family. Converted in part to a museum at the advent of the Weimar Republic in 1918, it was struck by Allied incendiary bombs in the last months of the Second World War and reduced mostly to a burnt-out shell. Communist East Germany tore the remains of the building down in 1950, and the area became a parade ground called Marx-Engels-Platz. (A modern reconstruction of the building was commenced in 2013, and is due to be completed this year.) Winnie's journals make a few references to the Stadtschloss; she seems to have visited it on a number of occasions between 1927 and 1930. Winnie is clearly in an office here, however, so it would appear that the point of her visit was not a tour of the galleries. I think I've found a clue in her journal: on November 14, 1927, she writes "No word from the museum and its been nearly 2 weeks now so its back to the tub and pump for me after all. Man soll den tag nicht vor dem abend loben!" From this I think we can surmise that Winnie had sought some sort of employment, possibly as a secretary or stenographer, at the Stadtschloss -- maybe with the help of the still-mysterious F? -- but had been disappointed. Interesting that some German idioms have begun at this point to appear in her journal entries. One wonders who was tutoring her in these?

  14. I didn't take this picture or edit it, just posed in it! Kudos to the original SL photographer! (Who I'll respectfully leave unnamed.) But it's the best full body (except my little demon toesies) shot i've ever been in. XD cause, I have trouble taking those on my own.

  16. One thing Linden labs doesn't do is fraud members. The company didn't need to make the new continent , but did. They doubled prim, and are actively working hard to bring a new generation of linden homes and a more fluid community which is their goal. In the early days, Linden labs has spent alot of money on new servers. To give you a hint the original server house hit just over 30,000 servers. Add in the costs to maintain the servers houses, the cooling systems for the blade systems and rooms. The backbone cost, massive electric bill, the employees and further development of their pride project. It took a lot to keep it a float. Then the shifted to new classes of servers costing more again but cutting back on how many are required. Now the cloud shift that will require a lot of cloud units but cut out the electric bill on the on demand homesteads. They work hard, struggled for awhile to keep ends met. Expanded to give options to people, including disabled people who SL changed there ability to survive in life. They are working on the homes, the continent is planned to be massive and amazing, so be patient, your new home in a massive amazing community is coming. THey want you to feel at home, so give them time to make it right.

  19. Another SMILE image... The image is from March. I put the smile on it today... 😉 I made this one on my Windows desktop machine. A bit trick. But, I got FaceApp to run on my pc. The how-to is here: http://blog.nalates.net/2019/06/18/the-faceapp-and-second-life/ - It is done running an Android emulator. The tough part to figure out was how to get the images in and out of FaceApp in the emulator. I still can't find the folder with the images using Explorer.

  23. You're going to have the Bellissaria Cat following you home, Dyna, and I'm not sure we're allowed to keep pets on the Mole Islands. Anyone following this thread might want to know that, under normal circumstances, I own all the houses and houseboats (rather than the parcel on which they stand) on the live Bellissaria regions, as opposed to the regions currently under development, since I'm the one who maintains the systems that make sure the latest versions of the right houses and houseboats arrive in the right place and pointing in the right direction. My houses and houseboats certainly don't stay empty for long!

  24. I have started fishing for better locations. I had a very nice location for a house in Evallen, but after counting the houseboats, I found out it was 20 or perhaps 22 houseboats in the sim. Other sims had better FPS for me. So I had an alt hunting the home pages site, and he found me a place with a house, the sim has only 4 houseboats, and view over water. Even a view to a lighthouse. Does anyone else abandon a home or boat, looking for the perfect location? Now that I have been in Bellisseria since April, I start to get picky. Next hunt is for a houseboat that's not boxed in by other boats, on the edge of a line of boats, or even better, a 32 x 32 location. The perfect would be a sim with a lot of water and less than 10 boats. I can even wait until a third homes option comes out, because now I feel the anticipation of landing a dream spot.

  25. I don't know about favorite area names... But I'm tempted to rename my Houseboat "The Same Boat" Then, whenever i have a group of people over I can say... "Hey we are all in the Same Boat here" Ba-dum-ching 🤣🤣🤣

  26. Those buttons down there... Like, Thank, LOL, etc... they REALLY need a "Hug" button added. Because you, Quartz, Abnor, Patch and all the other Moles and Lindens involved in this project deserve one. Or lots.

  27. Ah, well, that would be because I have been scripting new houses non-stop for a while and haven't had a chance to shower. Sorry about that. I'll try to stand downwind. 😵 Quartz and I are often the last people to handle a Linden Home before it is set into the home rezzer for a region, so it will have either his name or mine on it until the end of time. The home will never show the name of the person who owns the parcel it's on, because LDPW doesn't sell the home with the parcel. It stays the property of Linden Lab, so we absorb the Land Impact instead of you.

  32. Well, I heard from my cousins, cousins, sisters, aunties best friends mother that they arent doing them anymore. Due to the fact people are starting too many threads about the same topic and not reading the '1000s' already avaliable.

  33. LOL no I am not giving you the SLURL of my parcels. Like I said, you want to feel you are being mistreated, so there's nothing any of us can say to persuade you otherwise. Just like the other people who have posted complaints over and over and over and.... Bottom line is pay the subscription fee or cancel. Those are the choices. Endless complaining accomplishes nothing. ETA: A better use of one's time might be to use the refresh key on the new homes page, since every day people are posting in here that they were able to get a new home.

  34. it's not that i don't know, i'm around a bit longer, but using confusing descriptions makes the discussion excellent for a derail. The new Linden homes are nót double prim, or double anything, just placed on the new standard 1024 sqm parcels.

  35. I get a smallish thrill knowing you own my house... And if you find you're allowed pets on the Mole Islands, I know a... yeah, no, I'll be good. 😝 (Like you all didn't know I was going to make that joke!)
