I like the first area where you get to walk around and choose a theme.

But would be nice to learn how to walk first.

And once I went trough one of the portals (I choose roleplay) I ended up on some slow rezzing confusing hill with a tent and a few people messing about.

I took a few steps and then saw shops everywhere.

If I had been a noob I would have had no idea what to do next, where I was or how this was related to roleplaying.

It felt as if I had accidently tried something that was not finished yet.

So these new areas don't explain anything of the basics of moving, interacting with objects, inventory, etc but instead presents these poor unprepared noobs with insta TPs to random places? How the heck is that helpful?

It has long been apparent to me that LL needs to hire someone who is an experienced professional task analyzer and curriculum designer -- someone who does it for a living: ie, an educator. Because this is nothing more than an educational opportunity.

Not everyone -- even geniuses like Lindens -- knows how to analyze a task to break it into its atomic parts, to order them into a logcial sequenece, to anticipate every possible question or way to misunderstand or get derailed and design ways to avoid or correct that. Educators, particularly curricum designers, do know how to do that.
