Question

I have a class of 25 students that need to create accounts in Second Life as part of a course on Digital Identities. All need to set up and access their accounts through the school, which gives them a shared IP address. About half the class was able to register an account, and the rest received messages that "there is a limit to the number of accounts any household or individual may create" and that we have "exceeded the limit."

Is there any possibility of extending the number of accounts per IP address for educational settings?

Thanks!

Yes, it's possible.  This question comes up now and then on the SLED list, usually a month or so before the start of a new semester.  I never carry the details around in my head, so I have to search the SLED archives to find them.  Doing it very quickly just now turned up this thread >>> https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/educators/2009-September/035162.html .  I'm sure that there is something more recent, but I'll leave it to you to have the fun of searching.  Here's the link >>> http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=001010425210852223575%3Ajldmgpuier0  :smileyhappy:

I am sure there is a way as the latest policy on alts that I read (a few weeks ago) stated that if you needed more alts for some reason to contact them. I am not sure WHO to contact however. And  I cannot find that page again. The wiki still states five per household and that LL might charge you $9.95 for extra alts. The page I read wasn't in the wiki, but on an official page like the TOS etc. Again, sorry, I can't find that -- AND it may have changed yet again.

IF you have a premium account, I suggest chatting up support.

A work around would be for the kids to set up accounts at home (presumably they will be installing the viewer on their computers or at least some would. Also making a lot of alts on one day (this according to the wiki) sets off red flags too.

Best bet would be to contact someone at Linden Labs and do this officially though. You do know about AGE requirements I assume and that your students are old enough to be in second life.

EDIT:  I just found the education page which may be of some help AND an email which is probably what you need.

You could also try contacting Linden Labs to find out WHO to talk to about this.
