I have joined a sim which is having a heated debate over child avi's. Can anyone help me with the specific TOS rules? The sim is rated ADULT. The child avi's have been aged verified by Lindon Labs. Furthermore, everyone agrees, including the people behind the child avi's & their SL father, that they would have areas they are not allowed to go & they are not allowed to "age play" (which some of the people are fuzzy on, but I think it means adults playing children in sexual rp). These are the children of the Sim's King & most of the people do not want to ban them, but there are some who take the rule so far as to say "No child Avi's on adult sim even if age verified".

I can understand both sides of the argument & hesitate to say that 1 side is right & the other wrong.

What are your opinions? What is LL's specific rule?

2 years ago I let my 11 year old cousin make an avi so that she could come and see SL. But she only came a few times & her account is deactivated now. The point is, she was 11, not age verified & had an adult avi. In my opinion, this is worse than age verified child avi's who agree not to participate in adult context RP. Furthermore, any persons who abused the strictures reguarding the child avi's would be immediately banned from the sim.

TOS, section 2.2 gives the legal age for using SL as 13yrs old and lists age requirements for accessing Adult areas. Section 2.3 elaborates a little on Adult areas, but doesn't specifically mention child avis. Section 8.2(iv) mentions child avatars and age play and refers to the wiki page clarifying what age play is: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Clarification_of_policy_disallowing_ageplay

That wiki has all the answers you're looking for.

Edited to add my own 2 cents: There is no way to actually know whether anyone in SL is a child or an adult. For that very reason I'd generally be very, very careful what anyone does in SL. Child-like avatars don't bother me much as such.

Childavatars are not forbidden on adult rated sims, but it is forbidden to take part in sexual activities for childavatars. Because of that LL mentions it isn't that wise to go on an adult rated sim for someone with a child avatar. Its up to the sim owner to decide if he allows them to go there or ask them to go.

From my personal view point I can't see any reason for someone to go to a adult place when they use a childavatar anyway.

I do sometimes get a feeling that at least half the adult avatars are oversexed teens, especially those with grossly out of proportion genitalia (not counting the few specific cases where it's done as part of a d/s body modification/dollification scenario, but that's such a rare fetish I doubt it's more than a small percentage of cases, and usually those people are dedicated to their dom(me)s and not sexing around).

As said, you can't tell from the size and shape of a toon who's behind the screen on the other end, but do consider that sexual intercourse with a minor is an offense, and in many countries images of minors in sexually charged situations (even if fictitious, like SL or even manga cartoons) is considered child pornography and carries long prison sentences and lifetime social stigmas (even the assumption/accusation can be enough to destroy a person's life, no conviction needed).

So stay well away from child avs in adult content (and the seedier side of mature content as well).

actually that sections states

"(i) Users 13 to 15. If you are at least 13 years of age but less than 16 years of age, you may only use the Service if you are affiliated with a Sponsoring Organization, and your Account in Second Life is referred to as an “Affiliated Account.”

"(ii) Users 16 and 17. If you are at least 16 years of age but less than 18 years of age (or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, if it is greater), then you may only access areas of the Service rated General in accordance with our Maturity Ratings."

"(iii) Users 18 and Over. If you are at least 18 years of age (or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, if it is greater), then you may access areas of the service that are rated General, as well as Moderate and Adult, as provided in our Maturity Ratings and Section 2.3 below."

ETA

found this in the Linden Lab Official:Adult Content FAQ

"Are child avatars allowed on Adult regions?

Yes, child avatars are allowed in Adult regions, as long as they are controlled by a person who has verified themselves to be at least 18 years old. However, the avatar should not be in proximity to sexual content or activity; and must obey the policy prohibiting sexual ageplay.

Since Adult regions by design will often contain sexual content, child avatars should use caution in visiting Adult regions."

Thank you for that info. It is just as I thought it might be, but it is good to know for sure. The people who play the child avi's have been adult verified & play as the king's children. He told me that they are regulated to the castle area (and they have other sims to play in) unless accompanied by him or a trusted member of his family. They would be restricted as well as protected & the enjoyment for the adults to belong to an adult sim would not be hindered.

Sounds fine. If the kids are restricted (with those avatars) to areas where no sexual play is performed, it'd be no different from parents having sex in their bedroom with the kids in their own next door :)

I personally don't care what people do with their avies as long as they are legally adults behind the screen. It's not my scene to play a 10 year old sexpot, but it's also not my scene to play a serial rapist on an RLV capture sim, a wartime assassin, a cannibalistic abortionist or a trafficked prostitute...and all of these other things are perfectly acceptable while being just as abhorrent. If SL is going to allow people to act out crimes (murders, thefts, rape) in the name of fantasy - which I think they should - then why say one illicit fantasy is worse than the rest? If the evidence comes in that acting out sexual ageplay on SL ups your chances of being a child molester (or victim) RL, then I'd oppose it, but until then I frankly don't care what you do with your pixels, whatever age you play.

1. why would you want  anyone under the age of 16 on here thats just insain no matter the person. theres creepers, freaks and people who will target those kids faster then hell on the internet. Why dont you put your kid on facebook, and all those as well your at it cause pretty much thats what your doing here.

2. It grosses me out how much people are fighting for there under age kids to join its one thing for  a full grown adult to join secondlife and be a child role player its another to have a real life under age person on a avatar. Its wrong and shouldnt ever be allowed personally honestly in my eyes any parent who condones having under age kids on here should be banned themselfs.

3. I have been attacked by someones child on here and nothing was done but yeah i had some girl message me cause her mom and i got into a agrument suddenly i have a 11 year old imming me trying to get involved with a 18 and up convo. also begging me and my friends to buy her a adult avatar. that we reported right off the bat.

4. why do you wanna be a adult sim in the first place theres zero reason for a  child or child avy to be on a adult sim you wanna be in the role play of a child and just be a child or teen avy then thats your choice but honestly in rl you have to wait or become a adult for things theres no reason why in gods name that you cant eather become a adult for adult sims. cause the fact your fighting so much about being able to go adult sexual places makes me wonder straight up why you wanna go there anwyays. other then to try to cause havoc and get people in trouble.

Fact: 74 percent of child avatars on sl are looking for people to spend all there lidnens or threaten to get the lidnens hell one of my best friends was told if she didnt pay the child 9k  the child would go and say she was doing naughty things to her. I mean come on!

Fact: 89 percent of child avys who fight to go onto adult sims they want to try to trap people and get people banned and cause problems for people cause they are board and troll.

Secondlife if allowing children online or child avys they should auto make child only grids then this problem would completely go away.

I would LOVE to see sources for these claims. You know. Actual statistics from somewhere that you didn't just pull out of your ***.

P.S. Are you going to dig up every old thread that deals with child/teen avatars in your little "campaign"?
