When you are inside your house, open the "About Land" window and select the "Access" tab. Uncheck "Allow Public Access". However, this will also deny access for your friends. So you should create a group for the people you want to invite in your house and check "Allow Group Access".  The group that has access can be set on the "General" tab.

Alternatively, you can also buy one of the several security systems available, for instance at the Marketplace.

I had the same problem (not a Linden home, though). People will tend to use whatever they come across, whether or not it belongs to them or is in a public place or a private home. Restricting access works beautifully, but it does mean your friends will have to be on a special "white list" to come over. It also means you'll get ban lines - yellow and black "caution tape" style lines around your property. They can be quite unattractive, although you can derender them so you don't have to see them.

A security orb also works, although it can be hard to choose which one. If you decide on this, look for one with an adjustable radius (so you don't boot your neighbors on accident), adjustable ejection time, and ease of setup. Also keep in mind that some security orbs teleport people to the edge of your property, while others teleport them home. Security orbs will also affect your friends, so you'll still have to add them to a special "white list" in order for them to visit; but you don't get ban lines with security orbs. Security orbs definitely take more set-up, as well. Up to you which one you opt for.

Note: Locked doors are pretty pointless in SL. It's easy to "sit-cheat" through a locked door (meaning to simply sit on a piece of furniture inside the house), or double-click teleport.
