My stats for the whole Firestorm user base for december has the NVIDIA GeForce 410M at about 2.4x the FPS of the the 6630M, but the 6630M only had a handful on it durning that month verses the several hundred running a 410M so this isnt a totally acurate comparasion.

Generally NVidia's are better for SL, and I'd had a lot of trouble with mobile ATI's in the past due to the poor driver support for the mobile chips.  :matte-motes-frown:

The AMD 6630M should be a slightly better performing card.  It's a mid class 2 GPU.  The nVidia 410M is an entry level GPU and is in class 3.

AMD:  http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6630M.43963.0.html

nVidia:  http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-410M.43891.0.html

Neither card is going to be able to give you good performance at any setting over about mid in preferences.  Niether card will show shadows and depth of field (in fact the cards may crash your viewer if you try).  Going by sheer specifications the AMD card is best.  But nVidia has a slightly better OpenGL support which SL requires.  Between the two cards it's a crap shoot.........they both have their strengths and weaknesses.  Read the reviews for both and see which fits your needs and go with it.

Hello Addison and welcome to SL Forums. As already mentioned none of the graphics cards will offer you the performance you desire in SL. AMD sounds like a better option although sometimes in past residents reported serious problems here with amd 6630M. You can google if you wish for "second life 6630M" to have a look. If you want to purchase a laptop for general use and just to cover some of your real time, go ahead. If you need a laptop exclusively for SL i think is better to choose something else with a better graphics card and also to prefer a PC instead. If you want a laptop a Nvidia GT 500 series (525M for example) sounds like a reliable and same time economical solution).
