Does anyone know if its possible to take a sculpty object in 3ds max (possible with primcomposer plugin), and convert that into a regular mesh?

Yes with primcomposer you should be able to load a sculptmap into 3ds max. You can then export to dae and upload as mesh.

I would (in most cases anyway) advice to rebuild the object from scratch. If you want to use the sculpt anyway and it's an "origami" sculpt, make sure you weld all duplicate vertices together. Also check the UV mapping. It also won't hurt anyone to build some lower LoD models.
