Secondlife Pedophile *Feedback Appreciated*

Recommended Posts

I apologize ahead of time for the lengthy thread. I tried to cut some pieces and parts out of this to shorten it & this is what I've been able to come up.

Now, I'm a pretty avid Secondlife player & recently I've being faced with a fairly big and potentially threatening issue here, which I haven't got a clue on how to handle. I am a part of a group (we will call it Group ****), which is an adult group (older men for younger women (NO UNDERAGE (younger than 18 years of age) AVI'S OR PLAYERS ALLOWED). Personally, I enjoy the company of an older man (I'm 25, I usually chat with men 5 to around 20 year older than I am). No biggie, right?

Being a group member, I often receive chat invites, and or TP invites via the group chat window (group IM). I've never had a problem with anyone in the chatroom or in the group, ever. It has always been a peaceful group (a little crazy sometimes, but interesting & warm/welcoming).
Anyway, there is a user who has been posting this, "any submissive girls when younger who were loyal to their boyfriends,  but felt pressured to cheat from others?   im me", quite often (same script/shpeel) but noticeably uses a different (but almost always similar name). It caught my attention for some reason (assuming he was a "homewrecker" or trying to experience a "homewreckers" fantasy via SL).

I had IM'd the user who was searching for a "submissive young female", & I asked him "What is your deal, dude?". Needless to say he turned out to be quite the creeper; implying to me through subtle hints that he was looking for a young girl to RP as a 12-13-14 year old "daughter" figure & then go on "daddy-daughter dates" a few times a week (with him of course). It didn't take long to realize what he was after (even though he stated it was "just RP", this individual was very careful with how he stated his sick & twisted requests (he had obviously been doing this for quite some time). I told him that he was going to be reported, banned, and caught. His reply was even more disturbing to me: "Sweetie, they have banned me, numerous times... and I'm sure they will continue to ban me... and?" His lack of emotion what so ever just made my skin crawl...

I told him that I will be reporting him to LL, the FBI, and the internet crimes against children task force... he laughed at me and told me "&?".

This person (we will call him "*******") has been a problem since 2007 & continues to try to hunt down young girls whom he can victimize/violate according to various reports I've found on the net, as well as other stories I've heard from people (females mostly) who have dealt with him/crossed paths with him.

My dilemma is this: if this person has stated in IMs that he's looking for "RP", technically he's not breaking the law, correct? I will point out that he is breaking the TOS & can be reported (again) for that, though I think it's probably safe to assume LL (Linden Labs) won't or can't do anything more than they've already done).

How do I go about reporting this person, and what evidence do I need to make my report valid? I do have IM logs (I save all of my history to my PC) but I don't see anything that states that he's looking for an RL experience (meeting in RL, voice or video chatting, etc), however- it concerns me to know whether or not his personal life (and his PC) have incriminating & disturbing evidence of things like child pornography, and even more so to think that he may have an RL daughter or a niece, or in general- a young female in his life whom has fallen victim to his sick & twisted fantasies or that may potentially be in danger of becoming his victim sooner than later.

I will not walk away from this. Something about it doesn't sit well with me (duh), and maybe it's the fact that this is my 1st and only run in with an online pedophile/creeper regardless, I feel it is the right thing to do to report this person & to end whatever it is that he has been doing in SL (& possibly even in RL). If the info I've been given is correct, this person has been reported multiple times, and he keeps returning, using different names, however keeping certain letters or parts of his name the same, and to add to that briefly, his groups are ALWAYS the same:
Also, I am not calling these groups or their owners out to disrespect them or to slander their groups or any persons whom may be part of those groups. No negative or malicious intent is being directed here what so ever.

Tracking this guy hasn't been a challenge (maybe he is doing that intentionally though) which doesn't make sense to me because there is an option in the game that allows you to hide your groups if you so choose. Does this guy purposely hang around, flaunting his group memberships like flashy badges, or is he just dumb enough to leave a "paper trail"?  LL (Linden Labs have obviously banned this person (and his IP address) before, and according to my records it happens once or even twice a week. He just keeps coming back. I have a HUGE problem with this. What is the next step? Any feedback is appreciated!

First, I would go ahead and delete the group names. I know you're not calling out these groups, but it's still not advisable to post them. You have a very valid concern and question, and I'd hate to have it deleted because of the presence of those group names.

Second, I'm in some groups with this individual, and I've seen his posts quite a few times, myself - and reported him quite a few times. I understand your concern. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, roleplaying ageplay with consenting adults is not against the law - at least, not in the US, that I know of. Also unfortunately, I don't think law enforcement will be able to do anything because he is so careful to specify "rp only." The only possible way I can think of would be to pose as someone underage and see if eventually he tried to escalate things to RL - but that could get YOU banned for ageplay in the process, as it's against the ToS, and two wrongs don't make a right, even if you're doing it for the right reasons.

Right now, all you can do is AR him EVERY time you see him, in any variation. You can AR him for multiple offenses at the same time, even - disturbing the peace with group spam, violating ToS, encouraging others to violate ToS, etc. Anything that applies, AR for. You can also advise the group owners of what's happening. Ask them what they'd like you to do - would they like to know each time you see him with a new username? You can also ask, if you want and you're on very frequently, if they might consider making you a group officer with ejection capabilities, solely for the purpose of removing this individal each time he pops back up.

IM logs are good. Keep them. Make a log of each contact with him, be it in group or privately. I've been messaged by him, as well, and his insinuations are highly disturbing. Although as I said, I don't think law enforcement can do anything, it's a good idea to keep track of each instance. Try calling up your local law enforcement agency (non-emergency number, of course!) and asking what they would suggest. Explain in general terms what's been going on  - it's an online community with international members, you don't know this person in RL and don't know where they live or even their country of origin, but you're disturbed and would like to know 1) if anything could possibly be done, if not by them then by someone else; and 2) who else you should contact about this, if anyone. They might tell you to let it go, if they don't think anything can be done; they might advise you to contact another agency.

This person has been banned so many times it's ridiculous; most likely he thinking nothing else can be done to him, since even when he gets banned he just comes back under another name. Plus, there are TONS of other people in the same groups, doing absolutely nothing wrong. this particular person just doesn't care. He's a creep, plain and simple. I ignore him, because I really don't feel that anything else can be done. I encourage you to try, though; and I have some of my own chat logs, if you decide and are able to pursue this and need more.

Edited for grammar/spelling issues.

Actually, depicting sex of any nature between a child and an adult, even if all participants are adults  using any type of media is illegal in my state and I imagine its not the only one.  It may even be illegal on a federal level or illegal it this guys country if he doesn't live in the US.

With minors on the grid there is a strong possibility his 'role play' is not limited to just adults as he obviously enjoys pedophilia.  He may also commit real pedophilia with children in RL.  I commend you for taking this seriously and being willing to "not walk away" as so many others are obviously doing.

In addition to the group owner, and LL, I would report  him to The Internet Crime Complaint Center.

This center, associated with the FBI among other organizations, is a clearing house for filing cyber crime complaint.  They have high level legal and technical resources and the authority to research and develop criminal and civil complaints. Based on what they determine they then report it to and aid the proper authorities, be it federal, state, local and international.  Although most complaints they receive involve identity theft, fraud and theft, they handle any type of complaint that alleges criminal activity, including child endangerment.

They have a FAQ to guide you through the process and what you need to include in not only your complaint, but what evidence that you may have that you should preserve .

You can abuse report anything you want, but if there's no actual behavior in violation of the ToS, I wouldn't think anything will happen. Unless I misunderstand the post, the person is just talking about violating ToS, but hasn't actually done so in your presence.  It might nonetheless be useful to file an AR, but I'd kind of hope they wouldn't act on it without some evidence of an actual violation.

Also, things are very often not what they seem, so I get a different vibe from the part "according to various reports I've found on the net, as well as other stories I've heard from people."  That kind of hearsay makes me wonder if he's actually running a sting operation, not himself a violator but rather someone tasked with finding violators.  I mean, this is the kind of cover story and bad "reputation" somebody would need to have, in order to make that kind of sting work.

(Such hearsay very often arises in false smear campaigns, too, but in this case the person is said to acknowledge the story, which wouldn't fit with him being the victim.)

Nonetheless, you probably should go ahead and report what you know to LL.  And if you have evidence of violation of RL law, then obviously you should report that to RL authorities.

Report him. Sadly, there's not much you can do in terms of FBI and such. Unless he's targeting actual underage girls there won't be much of a case.

unless the laws have laxed or are vastly more lax in the US than they are in Europe, that's not the case. People can be arrested and convicted for pedophilia and child porn for the posession of drawings and 3D renderings of underage persons in sexually arousing situations or poses.

This is a real problem for law enforcement, as the definitions are so broad that even a picture of a child (including your own) in swimwear at the pool or beach can now be considered child porn if a police officer or judge wants to come down hard on you for some reason

To keep your group clean you should talk to the group owner. I'm sure he doesn't want the group to be a hunting place for creepers like this guy. So he could lose at least his groupmembership there.

On reading Kandiii's description of the group and what the guy says, I immediately realised who, and what group, she means.

Yes, he does get booted, very frequently, but the problem is that if a club's got a large and chatty group, which is necessarily open enrollment, it's hard to stop him rejoining an hour or so later, and even more difficult to stop him coming back as an alt.

There are prejudices in several european countries for depicting sex with minors, and I know at least for my country that he's not allowed to do what he does.

/me is not allowed to post what she personally would to with such creeps if she had the chance

In the USA the Supreme Court ruled that there has to be an actual particular child being abused; it is not illegal to have bad thoughts, or even to draw cartoons about them.  And it is definitely legal for consenting adults to call each other "daddy" and "daughter" while having sex.  In the USA, "child porn" means that there is an actual -- not simulated or realistic, but actual -- child being abused.

I believe this individual trolls a lot of groups using that pre-canned line, is reported, tossed out the group and SL, and comes back as an new alt every few days.   His/Her profile groups are usually ones that are open enrollment.   All you really can do is A/R the person and mute them each and every time they appear.

you might want to re-check your facts.

Under federal law (18 U.S.C. §2256), child pornography1 is defined as any visual depiction, including any photograph, film, video, picture, or computer or computer-generated image or picture, whether made or produced by electronic, mechanical, or other means, of sexually explicit conduct, where

  • the production of the visual depiction involves the use of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; or
  • the visual depiction is a digital image, computer image, or computer-generated image that is, or is indistinguishable from, that of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct; or
  • the visual depiction has been created, adapted, or modified to appear that an identifiable minor is engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

Federal law (18 U.S.C. §1466A) also criminalizes knowingly producing, distributing, receiving, or possessing with intent to distribute, a visual depiction of any kind, including a drawing, cartoon, sculpture or painting, that

  • depicts a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct and is obscene, or
  • depicts an image that is, or appears to be, of a minor engaging in graphic bestiality, sadistic or masochistic abuse, or sexual intercourse, including genital-genital, oral-genital, **bleep**-genital, or oral-**bleep**, whether between persons of the same or opposite sex and such depiction lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.
