How would you create a necklace w/ a name or word?

I'm just starting to dabble with jewelry making, so this is probably a total noob question. I have a necklace and I want to add a pendant that's a word or someone's name.

One solution, when I look at necklaces on the marketplace, seems to be to put letters as textures on prims like cubes. I wanted to use a script font, so having letters on individual prims wouldn't look right since the letters have to flow together. What I'd like to get is a pendant that's a 3D version of the word or person's name.

How would you go about it?

Is this the kind of thing I'd have to turn to blender to create?

You could fake it with a pseudo 3D flat prim.
