what causes one not to be able to sit on objects in SL?

or open a door?

A partial list ....

1. Not enough room to sit on object

2. Object scripted to respond only to owner or group member

3. Object blocked by a transparent object ( a window, a tree, ....)

4. Object is not a door

Hello Solitear and welcome to SL Forums. As Rolig mentioned, sounds like you are on a region where you have no right to run scripts. Also is possible the object you try to sit no to have a script for sitting. Other times you sit with right click and sit and other you have to left click, to get a menu and use pose balls.
