I bought a house, but how do i place my house on land?

Question

Once have land large enough and with enough prims to rez your house, find the house in your inventory. It's probably in a box. Drag the box onto your land from your inventory, and open it by right-clicking it and choosing "open." There will be a folder, in your inventory, probably with the same name as the box or similar. There should be a notecard in that folder; open it by double-clicking and read it to find out how to rez your house. Most come in a rezzer, so you'll find the rezzer, drag it onto you land, usually click it to rez the house, then move the BOX - NOT any part of the house, just the rezzer box - until your house is placed within the bounds of your property in a way that makes you happy. That's the most likely procedure, but read the notecard so you know for sure.

It's wise to go shopping for a house that you like and can afford, but then shop for the land BEFORE you buy the house itself. The price of a house is the smallest part of home ownership in SL, and it is a one-time cost. Land, on the other hand, has not only a one-time purchase price but an ongoing monthly land fee that you have to pay to Linden Lab (or to a landlord who has to pay Linden Lab).  If you buy a house that will require more land than you can afford, you won't be able to use it.  So .... when you are shopping for a house, be very sure to find out (a) the size and shape of the land that it will need to sit on and (b) how many prims are in the house itself.  Obviously, you will then need to check to find out how much it will cost to buy and maintain a big enough parcel of land.  The parcel should also be able to support at least twice the number of prims that your house is made of, so that you will have prim allowance left over for buying furniture, trees, and other decorations.

After you have done all of THAT thinking, THEN you can worry about how to put the house on whatever land you have.
