How to use joystick in SL - enabled but no movement?

I just purchased a Logitech Attack 3 joystick. I can enable it in preferences with no problem. When I try to use it, I can get my avatar to jump with a button but can't get her to walk forward more than a step. Is there some other setup needed?

The "joystick" routines in SL are set up for a 3D building cursor which acts very differently from a conventional joystick. You have to change the controller configuration. This is a link to the instruction manual of an airplane I have that includes joystick setup tips - I haven't used them myself though. Note that it's a machine translation from French so it takes a bit of chewing over to understand sometimes.
